To travel to Egypt by land from any surrounding country was no easy undertaking. Camels were not in use until the Late Period and the traditional route to Sudan includes a hazardous cut across the desert. Travelling to Syria by land or Lebanon by sea would have been rather easier. There was a black component to Egypt but it was not a black civilization.

It also had to do with jealous rivalries and back-stabbing in the antiquities department. It had nothing to do with race,. I believe he is back in his job now anyway.
