Another example is the remake of "Let the Right One In" titled "Let Me In." They essentially just redid the movie but at a poorer quality. They did not truly appreciate the first film, if they had, they would not have remade it. About the synchronisation, they simply do not release movies that way in theaters in the U.S., I am not sure why.

He has Trent Reznor back to make the soundtrack so it's that much better. Remakes may suck I admit but not this one. Trent, Atticus and David are all very talented people in their job. Crappy 3D movies are comparable to Inception when it comes to the box office? To, I don't know, one of the best movies in the last how many years? So sad. When at last we are given a movie that has so much substance and such a great cast, not to mention an intelligent story, it is quickly overshadowed by crap boosted by 3D, the sole purpose of which is to get more money! I am still upset by this. The Millenium series AKA Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilorgy simply cannot be remade better. Natalie Portman doesn't hold a candle to Noomi Rapace. Shaved her head in V For Vendetta, big deal, I'd like to see Portman take on a film like Daisy Diamond. Not saying Hollywood can't make great movies, but it simply doesn't have the uncompromising integrity of foreign cinema. Remember when they wanted to make a US version of Oldboy? Can't be done right? Well it's like that.

3D is just a phase. Too many people are trying to follow after Avatar, which was totally different not only for the plot but because of the director involved, and they are failing at it mostly. Not only that who has the money to continually pay for a 3D movie with how high prices are especially if the movie sucks. I prefer a 2D always and not 3D because its the "new thing to do".

Hollywood MUST NOT attempt to do a film adaption of the novels! I have seen the first two Swedish films of the Millennium trilogy and they are very well shot, directed, acted and structured. Finally European Cinema gets a good franchise of films to produce and to sell and now Hollywood comes along to take that away. I won't be that mad at them for casting Natalie Portman (she's a great actress), but either way I am totally against this production.

Toy Story 3 is out. It's a great movie but the trilogy will be remembered not the third. Alice will be out of memory by 2012 along with titans, twilight the rest.
Inception and Dragon stand alone as great original movies. One 3D one not. In the end a good movie with a lasting appeal should matter. Not if the pass 300 million. A good movie needs only fans, not cash or the studios approval.

3D movies are sooooooo annoying the glasses hardly work and my eyes always hurt after im done watching the movie. i feel like the old 3D glasses worked better. The companies that make them reduced the quality just so they would look cool. i hope that later in life movies can be watched and not ruined with dumb needless technology.

They're not in the middle of making films of Larsson's books, but have already made adaptations of all three books, and very good adaptations, having seen the originals, I don't think Hollywood can bring much to the table, sorry!!

Why do the studios allways recycle stuff. It's the same with "The girl with the Dragon Tattoo" as with upcoming movie "Let me in" wich is, as it seems a adaption of the great swedish "Låt den rätte komma in" (by the way, as well based on a novel), wich i presume will still have more sense for emotion in it's narration. I saw all three Swedish movies, they're not in the middle of making them, they've been made, I've seen them. They can count me out; as far as I'm concerned Noomi Rapace played Lisbeth Salander perfectly.

I couldn't enjoy Despicable Me because of the 3D. The colors were extremely dull and the glasses prevented me from concentrating (not that Despicable Me required much concentration). I couldn't believe I was paying extra for something that ruined the experience!
3D stands for 3 dollars! That's why it helps the gross.
Its actually getting hard to find some showings in 2D. Many theaters only want to extra bucks they can charge for 3D. Most movies have no need to be in 3D, IMHO. Many work special shots into the production that look cool in 3D, but don't help the story.

I think 3-D is being slightly overused. It can be used to do some spectacular things(Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, Toy Story 3), but I don't want filmmakers to think that for success, they have to rely on 3-D. It's a useful tool if used properly, and lots of films have proven that you don't need 3-D to make an amazing film. I'm not against 3-D. I just don't want a future of films with a lack of emotion and characterization that just rely on visuals, and feel dead, like somethings missing.
If you have to watch Inception multiple times to understand it.......fuck ill just buy the DVD and listen to the commentary, then they can tell me what i want to know and i wont spend an extra 9 dollars

I dunno, I just think 3D isn't a way to make a film better. It can be used if you want to but if you're creative idea doesn't require 3D then I don't believe it should be done. It seems like movies is almost a cold business now as opposed to a creative expression.
There are 2 topics addressed in this MM that happen to be my pet peeves about the current state of the movie industry: an ungodly amount of remakes and 3D. Of course we shouldn't be remaking Dragon Tattoo; Sweden's got this. And they're filming the rest of the trilogy. There is simply no need to mess with what's already good, and that counts for much of this year's films. Not only that, but 3D's just a way for the studios to rob their loyal fans. To me, that's just a slap in the face.
I really am disappointed that they're planning on doing a remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The original film was fine as it is. There's absolutely no reason for it to be remade other than some Americans just being too lazy to read subtitles.
I hope Whedon learns the technology and uses the 3D cameras for the Avengers movie... with them doing 3D after-conversion on the Captain America and Thor movies, I would hope they would film the epic movie with cameras so it doesn't turn out to be like Clash of the Titans...
@Sindrolic Unless of course Whedon can convince the studios to not switch it to 3D after production. Then that would be fine by me. But I fear no matter what the director does during production, the movie will be converted to 3D in the end for the extra kick at the box office :(
When I am watching a movie and paying that much for a ticket, I want something spectacular. But in most 3D movies there are only a few things that actually pop out of the screen, and they are usually minor. When they make a movie where 3D is heavy and there is tons of things that pop out and surround you.. perhaps I will gi ve it a shot.
The only movie I have liked in 3D was Step Up 3D. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was okay, but I can honestly say nothing else has been
that impressive. I am slightly upset that they are shooting movies like Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 3D. I think 3D should be left for CGI heavy movies and animated movies, When you take a normal movie and make it 3D, it doesn';t mesh very well.

Hollywood MUST NOT attempt to do a film adaption of the novels! I have seen the first two Swedish films of the Millennium trilogy and they are very well shot, directed, acted and structured. Finally European Cinema gets a good franchise of films to produce and to sell and now Hollywood comes along to take that away. I won't be that mad at them for casting Natalie Portman (she's a great actress), but either way I am totally against this production.

Looking at the chart of the top ten grossing films which of those will stand the test of time?
Toy Story 3 is out. It's a great movie but the trilogy will be remembered not the third. Alice will be out of memory by 2012 along with titans, twilight the rest.
Inception and Dragon stand alone as great original movies. One 3D one not. In the end a good movie with a lasting appeal should matter. Not if the pass 300 million. A good movie needs only fans, not cash or the studios approval.

Grace, I don't mean to be rude. (Which I guess unless you see this I won't be.) But I find your burning of the three directors who aren't using 3d, to be a little one-sided. If you like 3d that's fine, but not everyone does.
In all honesty I think it is a fade that will pass. Just like it was in the 20, 50, 60, 70, 80, and 90's
3-D film boom of 1983 had a lot of movies too. Big movies like Jaws 3-D, Friday the 13th 3, and Amityville 3-d

3D movies are sooooooo annoying the glasses hardly work and my eyes always hurt after im done watching the movie. i feel like the old 3D glasses worked better. The companies that make them reduced the quality just so they would look cool. i hope that later in life movies can be watched and not ruined with dumb needless technology.

They're not in the middle of making films of Larsson's books, but have already made adaptations of all three books, and very good adaptations, having seen the originals, I don't think Hollywood can bring much to the table, sorry!!

Why do the studios allways recycle stuff. It's the same with "The girl with the Dragon Tattoo" as with upcoming movie "Let me in" wich is, as it seems a adaption of the great swedish "Låt den rätte komma in" (by the way, as well based on a novel), wich i presume will still have more sense for emotion in it's narration. It just confuses me, that you can't dub, or sub the movies and bring them to Theaters. Greetings from Germany

I saw all three Swedish movies, they're not in the middle of making them, they've been made, I've seen them. I couldn't enjoy Despicable Me because of the 3D. The colors were extremely dull and the glasses prevented me from concentrating (not that Despicable Me required much concentration). I couldn't believe I was paying extra for something that ruined the experience!

3D stands for 3 dollars! That's why it helps the gross.
Its actually getting hard to find some showings in 2D. Many theaters only want to extra bucks they can charge for 3D. Most movies have no need to be in 3D, IMHO. Many work special shots into the production that look cool in 3D, but don't help the story.
You can count me in the group of people wishing that 3D becomes less popular.

I think that if they dont use 3D they can invest in better effects. like in The Final Destination. The effects, and Acting were bad. They couldve invested in better actors, effects, and screenwriters if they didnt invest in so much 3D. I am an FD fanboy and i say. I was disappointed. Im glad its not The Final Destination. This "trend" is getting out of hand and I applaud the direcotrs who desire not using 3D.

I think 3-D is being slightly overused. It can be used to do some spectacular things(Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, Toy Story 3), but I don't want filmmakers to think that for success, they have to rely on 3-D. It's a useful tool if used properly, and lots of films have proven that you don't need 3-D to make an amazing film. I'm not against 3-D. I just don't want a future of films with a lack of emotion and characterization that just rely on visuals, and feel dead, like somethings missing.

I dunno, I just think 3D isn't a way to make a film better. It can be used if you want to but if you're creative idea doesn't require 3D then I don't believe it should be done. It seems like movies is almost a cold business now as opposed to a creative expression.

There are 2 topics addressed in this MM that happen to be my pet peeves about the current state of the movie industry: an ungodly amount of remakes and 3D. Of course we shouldn't be remaking Dragon Tattoo; Sweden's got this. And they're filming the rest of the trilogy. There is simply no need to mess with what's already good, and that counts for much of this year's films. Not only that, but 3D's just a way for the studios to rob their loyal fans. To me, that's just a slap in the face.

When I am watching a movie and paying that much for a ticket, I want something spectacular. But in most 3D movies there are only a few things that actually pop out of the screen, and they are usually minor. When they make a movie where 3D is heavy and there is tons of things that pop out and surround you.. perhaps I will gi ve it a shot.
The only movie I have liked in 3D was Step Up 3D. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was okay, but I can honestly say nothing else has been
