@princess15782 It really depends on the candy melt colour and brand. I find that sometimes I need a few tsp, whereas sometimes I need MUCH more because the candy melt is just too thick to work with.
@hklover60 They're seasonal, so you probably won't see them sold in major grocery stores until Valentine's/Easter. Some candy shops sell M&Ms by the colour (usually more expensive) so you actually buy the colour of your choice and not have to pick them out. I'm not sure if you have any candy stores in your area like that though. You can also try shopping online.
Very cute! I love the details you provide. Do you use Americolor edible markers? I have tried Wilton and Americolor and not had a lot of luck. I have to use a lot of thinner for my chocolate ( paramount crystals, shortening) and I think it makes my coating too soft. I have to add a lot of oil because Wilton's is so thick! What suggestions do you have? So many of the designs require using them so I want to make sure I can do so and make a quality pop. Thanks!
Hi! Yes I use Americolor's edible pen. Wilton's pen does NOT work on Candy Melt. Maybe you are adding too much thinning ingredients. Try not to make your chocolate/Candy Melt so thin and see what happens. You could also try buying a different Candy Melt brand (like Merckens, which is what Bakerella uses). You'll have to search around your area and see who carries it.
Yes I use AmeriColor's edible pen. I've tried Wilton and it doesn't work at all. Same here, I also have to use a lot of oil in my Wilton Candy Melt to thin it out. :( I haven't tried another brand yet, but Bakerella uses Merckens Candy Melt (she buys them from Cake Art). Perhaps Merckens has a thinner consistency than Wilton? It's too bad none of the stores in my area sell that brand.
i have a question...I've been making cake pops for the past month and the candy melts doesn't melts doesn't get liquidy its to stiff to stick the cake pop in the bowl...do you use a different coating? I've tried the regular cake melts like a million times following the directions and adding oil at times.
I use Wilton's Candy Melt and also find that certain bags/colours don't melt as "liquidy" as others (not sure why). How much oil have you tried adding? You may have to add even more oil to thin it out. Another option is to buy some paramount crystals. I haven't tried using them yet, but my friend tells me it works pretty well.

@NIALYN07
Check your local cake decorating shops. If they don't sell them, you'll have to buy online (eg: Amazon, Cake Art, Cake Mischief, etc).

@DessertDecorating I wish I would have known that the Wilton pens don't work on the candy melts before I spent $9 on a pack.
