I love hearing clips like this! Maybe it's because I love playing with orchestras so much and I don't get to because there are not many around here. Great playing!
Really nice. Also illustrates something I say a lot about trombone. It is really loud sounding when you are right next to them. This is why horn players, bassoon players and sometimes trumpeters and conductors think the trombone is too loud.
When you go out into the audience and get the "blending" and attentuation that occurs to the mostly "midrange" sound output of the trombone (most of the musical content is in the range of 100hz to 1,000 hz) then you hear nicely balance volumes.
You bet! In the hall you could hear the rest of the orchestra!
The Chamber Orchestra of Europe, as I'm sure you are aware, is an extraordinarily dynamic and vibrant orchestra with great intensity of sound and tightness of ensemble. It produces a gut-wrenchingly exciting sound, and this sort of punchy trombone playing can work occasionally.
Please note: this was recorded on a microphone about the size of a matchstick head!
I love what the trumpet guy did at the end! lol Anyways very well done!

Is the first on a F-attachment Alto or something? Looks like an alto to me but with the extra tubing.

Bb Attachment on an Eb alto. I believe this would be a conn 36H

Hmm, interesting. Thank you for that.

Good section! Especially for a small horn section (can't see what the third guy is on, but he still sounds really good).

Third guy is using an 88H.

Sweet! Thanks.

Very well played...

私が正しく理解すれば... trombones はマイクロフォンがそれらの近くに非常にあったのでこの録音で非常に騒々しい。また、それは非常に小さく、非常によいないマイクロフォンだった!

Come on now, this isn't the part of the last movement of Schumann 3 that people want to hear
uscbone2009 4 years ago
Which bit do you mean?
neastop 4 years ago
He means the part with the high Eb in the alto!!!
tbonehauer05 3 years ago
That bit isn't in the last movement though.
neastop 3 years ago
no its not, its in movement iv, but its the part everyone wants to hear.
tbonehauer05 3 years ago
Are you assuming that "uscbone2009" doesn't know which movement the bit he or she thinks everyone want to hear is in?
neastop 3 years ago
all im saying is that people want to hear the chorale in movement iv.

What great reverb in the hall!
Excellent job and wonderful tone :)

Love Holliger but is not my ideal for Chumann 3rd. But Iam sure that in the hall was different

fantastic playing guys!

Wow! I heard things that I've never heard in Schumann 3rd before...and never want to hear again. Did Holliger insist on the balances?
