ok 1) the order when completed taking blood is Tournequiet, tube then needle. you risk a vein collapse or hematoma if you don't take the tube out. 2) don't bend your arm after a phlebotomy. apply pressure and keep your arm horizontal.
Thanks for sharing this video ... Have been watching it over and over with my 5 year old to show him what it is going to be like to get blood drawn at the PED later today. Brave kiddo !! :D
im 15 and i cant stand getting a simple shot, i cry when i find out (i have to get 2 this summer....) i couldnt give blood if my life depended on it..
I'm 19 and I just got my blood drawn today. I passed out lol...I saw nothing but white and I couldn't hear myself talking! I thought I was having a near death experience. That kid is brave haha.
I did the same thing but the nurse lost my blood and I had to retake it then I did it again and the nurse poked my vein and I gushed like a gusher. Lost 20% of my blood that day

@Choadlip Actually, she did not do perfectly. I am a nationally certified phlebotomist and I can tell you right now that she is not. Her skills are lacking. You actually should anchor ANY NEEDLE because it provides more tension with the skin, less pain for the patient, and easier entry into the arm without a chance of the vein rolling. And you should hold on to the needle so that it doesn't come out of the arm and cause a hematoma, or stick her. Learn something before you speak about it again.
Wow, talk about failing with the butterfly. You are always supposed to hold on to it because it can come out of the arm and you can get an accidental stick, no one wants HIV. Also, when you take it out of the arm, you pull on the tubing because its a retractable needle. Its made to be safety capped.

Man, I rather prefer the day i had an IV inserted when I got my wisdom teeth extracted than having todo this.

@cyntrax77 If he's otherwise healthy, he'll make a great blood donor at 16-18. I'm not that unflappable about having blood drawn!

@GirlsStateAlumni09 CALM DOWN. THE BUTTERFLY SHOULD BE INSERTED AT A SHALLOW ANGLE SO THAT IT REMAINS FLAT...
P.S
VEINS, DON'T ROLL.

Heh, the phlebotomist did perfectly. No, you do not have to anchor the butterfly at all, and she activated the safety mechanism off camera.
