I decided to switch to go to FS, I waslike: I dont want to seethis happenin further. But I think, (I'm not sure, because I'm not using FSX right now, I do have a setup for the future), that i have a fix, email for the fix:
Well I finally got a system that runs FSX fast. i7 at 3.8ghz, tons of ram and nvidia gtx 470 which is quiet, runs great and doesn't over heat like they claimed. But with no updates for FSX it just looks like an old game. The only hope was DX10, but even that makes weird textures flicker for me too. Not only is there no flight simulator 11, but they don't even bring a few simple updates to fix small bugs like this. That's probably a sign they've dropped fsx all together...
Heres the thing...I have fsx acceleration and a decent computer. Is there a way to fix the flickering problem? If anything is needed to be downloaded thats fine but how can I fix it?!?!
Both because of issues like texture layering conflicts, the fact that it uses up way too much power to produce good effects, yet DX9 did this much more efficiently, and because of this blue horizontal flickering I get with DX10. >.>
@Sebas3440, I got GTX470, it's awesome and give me really fast frame rates in fsx! But some of these dx10 bugs are still there. My runway looks pretty good, but some textures flicker on and off. Otherwise it all looks ok.
does anyone know how to be able to access more memory without using sp2. I hate sp2 but if I take it off my computer cant get the memory it needs. but if I leave sp2 my graphics are crappy almost to the point I cant stand. any help would be great.
No, it is not a graphics card issue, loads of people have experienced this, nVidia and ATi users, no exception, and my case was weird, because the first time I ran the FSX on this PC (the very day it was first assembled) I didn't have this problem, but after I formatted and tried again I started having this flickering issue and still today, even though I've tried with every single ATi Catalyst Control Center drivers. It's a shame, must be a design error, not videocards issues.
Well Soman, as far as I know, the DirectX 10 should come included (and works) only with Windows Vista, and to use it, your videocard must be compatible with it; also, in FSX, you'll need at least the Service Pack 2 or Acceleration
1. Sometimes, when I close the sim on Windows VItsa, most of the times it says it found an error, and tries to re-open the simulator, I really hate that because that didn't happen to me on Win XP.
2. Sometimes, when DX10 is activated, when I click on "Fly now!" (to start flying) the simulator is "supposed" to load on fullscreen but it does in window mode, even if I do ALT+TAB twice (fullscreen-window mode again), it still remains in window mode... Hate that
Well, thank you very much for the video, I have the problem as well, even updating my videocard drivers it isn't still solved :( Weird thing is the first time I ever used FSX in this PC (On its assablement / first run) I didn't have it, but when I formatted I never could have a "normal" game again...
Glad you liked the video and thanks for the comment.
The short answer is that the later videos all use DX9, which doesn't have this problem. Although DX10 has somewhat better fps performance, the only place where that really makes a difference is near the ground... where these flickering problems occur.
I've not heard of any 'solution' to the problem, but if anyone finds one or knows of one certainly drop me a line and I'll make a video about it.
Thank you for the fast answer to this issue. I was not sure whether there is a solution for this type of Problem but I think that the differences between DX9 and DX10 are not so big (beside the small fps performance). Deactivating DX10 doesn't matter for me. So thank you again for all of your videos and comments on the FSX!
you need to change your filtering mode, in your display. i have a BFG 9800GTX+ and i can get rid of it by playing around with the filtering, dont use bilnear
I just tried Direct X 10--been using the 9--and most of my AI planes have had there textures turned white "blank"-what crap!!--I had installed FSX service pack 2 and wished I did'nt-I hope it is easy to delete?
I have textures flickering in DX10 mode and after about 10-15 minutes my computer is freezing. It's no matter where I am flying and what plane do I use. I tryed all settings and it's still flickering and then freezing !
Next problem is that I'm using PMDG 747-400 X (most new version) and my crt panels in cockpit are working on fucking DX10 but not in DX9 ! Nothing is crashing in DX9 so it's ok, but man... PMDG !!!
I've mainly given up on FSX in DX-10 for the time being. There are just too many bugs (the flickering is really annoying for sure) and so far as I can see there is absolutely no difference in the quality of the graphics (see the examples in my article linked to this video). There is some increase in fps performance, but beyond about 25 fps one really can't notice much difference so unless you're really scraping for fps then there isn't much point in using DX-10 for now.
this seems to be a problem with airport data, so theres really no easy way to fix it, it seems as thoue the airport data is conflicting DX10 graphics.
BullCR** this game was changed from dx9 to dx10.....this is actually normal(CHANGIN GAMES FROM dx9 to dx10 with BIIIGGGGGG bugs are not weird)....Look at normal dx10 games(CRYSIS,UT3....)..they dont have big bugs...they dont have bugs..(I'm not sure)
...and most importantly; I'm a computer user since '79, use a PC since '83, Windows since v2.03 in 1987 and professional systemadministrator since that same year while you have been a noob your whole life.
I'm a computer user since '77, use a PC since '81, Windows since v1 and professional system administrator. But most importantly, i've been fucking your mom since '65 and she loves it.
I gave up on DX10, and in fact SP2 a while ago, do to this, and the other texture issues SP2 caused by removing backward compatibility with FS9 textures. I still have SP2 with Acceleration on my Vista installation when I want to go flying off of a carrier in an F-18, but quite frankly I very seldom use it. I do most of my flying in Win XP with FSX SP1. I think Aces made a big mistake, in what they have done in SP2, especially since there is no further development scheduled for the FSX Platform.

So what is the advantage of DX10?

"Hopefully the FS team will make a patch for that."
Agreed... however Microsoft just laid off the FS team so if it's not been fixed yet then I wouldn't hold your breath ;-(.
One of the main reasons for making the video was so that others knew it wasn't just them... so glad you liked it! ;-)

FS9 does not support DX10- on FSX with the Acceleration Expansion Pack is the only way (that i know of) that Flight Simulator supports DX10
