  • Love it

  • pretty cool video! i like this song

  • Like "Orion the Hunter."

  • 14 people have no spirit and soul.

  • Religion - can't live with it, can't live without it -

  • @SupernalOne Without religion everyone would be free and equal. ( That goes for government too)

  • @1misanthropist

politically it would help - but still, there are those who embrace a faith because it satisfies their minds, provides a noble reason for being charitable, and provides hope in the face of inevitable death. True or not makes no differnce, people are comforted - but others use the church as a power structure that lets them dominate their fellows - so one has to throw the baby out with the bathwater - no church, & no god either -- I dunno; what hope do you have for the future?

  • @SupernalOne fortunately nobody can decide it and every man has his own will.

  • @peterscoop

certainly -- though in ages past, the religion of the land had to at least be given lip service -- now we have the privilege of openly professing what we believe to be true (though only if asked, of course) :)

  • sexy beautiful classy haunting & deep. must be Clannad..

  • lovely song

  • Oh! What a beautiful song! ^_^

  • beautiful....memories of my early teens...thanks for sharing!

  • I like how it looks like she has a slight thyroid issue going on

  • Awesome...Love this song....!

  • Very moving and artsy vid!! Somehow had now seen this before. The always excellent voice of Moya, no matter how one spells her first name. Great lighting effects. Behold Man!

  • This music makes me travel to that wonderful and green island: Ireland.

I wish I´ll visit it soon. Wonderful!

  • I agree with you MikeSutcliffe07

  • Lovely stuff!!! :)

    Ruiseart.

  • I love this song. The footage of the Peregrine Falcon is beautiful.

  • Typical for a cockroach to blame another cockroach rather than the disease they all serve.

  • I remember this song from album Pastpresent. The most beautiful voice in this world!

  • I like how this is ripped from MTV Classic but it's not even the original mix, I was trying to find the original album version, guess I'll keep looking.

  • Magical voice and sound

  • Epic, simply epic.

  • EIRE FOREVER... ( said by a dutchman ).

  • the irony of your statement is probably lost on most who dont know their history!

  • nice, said by an irishman who loves holland lol

  • Just simply...GREAT!!!

  • look up clannads albums

  • love the bass line of the song.

  • These are Enya's siblings!

  • And uncles.

  • clannad are the best!!!

  • wow clicked on this thinking the anime Clannad

  • you just cant beat listening to clannad if you wanna chill right out

  • too slow and so no dance music?!? This music is much too high-class as to do something trivial as dancing - as trivial people use to do pah!

  • real good music, but to slow for me. :D !

  • then go back to dance music ha ha, it is too slow, check out armin van buuren

  • Clannad really has Celtic influences, a very European background.

Scandinavia has produced great metalbands: Finntroll,

    Dimmu, In Flames.

The new wave of british heavy metal: Sabbath, Led Zepp, Iron Maiden etc.

The only cool Dutch bands I know are Golden Earring, Osdorp Posse (but they have Dutch raps), Within Temptation and Blof.

Does anyone of you know some decent Dutch bands ?

  • Great dutch bands you didn't name:

    After Forever

    Ayreon (not really a band)

    Delain

    Epica

  • @rocksparadox Did you know that the dutch are more similar to the irisch genetically then to the south germans. And that the english DNA is almost an exact match with that from the people of the nothern dutch provincess.

  • @prankster1590 Not that many. When it's found, yes it is. but you're talking about not a high level as you think. The dutch have a high R1B as well as irish showing gene flow from western seaboard, and why both have megalithic monuments. Only english who have anglo saxon descent will make a close match, but depending on the region can be less than 50 percent. Dutch is the closest language to English.

  • @prankster1590 That is an interesting statement. Do you have a source I could study on this statement. The Irish are from the Celtic People who migrated along southern Europe, through Spain on to Britain then Ireland. The Dutch, as I understand it, are from Germanic origin. Two completely different Indo-European branches.

  • Source is the New York Times

    nytimes.com / 2008 / 08 / 13 / science / 13 visual . html ?_r=1

Three w's in the url. Youtube is being obnoxious.

  • @Jesrbryant Everything that goes to britain first have to go through the netherlands. The Belgae were mixed Germanic and Celtic. The batavians were propably also mixed.

  • @prankster1590 that depends on wich part of England you study. Look up a BBC programe called Blood of the Vikings. They did a huge genetic survey of English men.

  • which album is this on? i love it

  • Past present Kind of a best of album

  • the best album to get would be "clannad the ultimate collection"

it's got most of their good stuff

  • go for the album past present, this song is on it

  • So you are middle eastern?

  • from southern European from Indo-Aryan origin who first I surfaced in Bohemia and traveled west in search of the home of the sun lol Cornwall and Ireland for surfing waves yum

  • Well I am a Celt too, but I think our people came from further afield... thought they stopped off in Europe and there were different tribes with different features.

Have you heard of Gaedhil Glas?

He was Moses nephew, Moses cured him of a snake bite and predicted his progeny. That he would goto the furthest isle to the west, a green isle with no serpents (snakes).

    St Patrick = Ptah-rik (Egyptian)

  • oh sweet that's really interesting, oh i see thanks for that historical linkage , is it like the stones in westFrance they are called cairn's long stones that run along the land and forest and in Egypt has a place called the same oh i see

  • Yes there are many examples of this and the comic book that the bible is, actually makes reference to some of these characters.

Dan = Danmark = Denmark = land of Dan

Look at very old Irish names, they sound a bit Middle eastern don't they?

  • I`m not mad at the brittishI just wish more people paid more attention to what when on.They got forgooten here in the U.S

  • past present is one of my favorite albums of all time, clannad really capture the true celtic feeling of ireland, and i love the place

  • I absolutely love Clannad and their music even though I'm protestant. What does it matter...I'm still from Ireland and love them!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i agree, it shouldnt matter if you are irish, protestant, british, catholic, we all share the same blood culture and history, and have a gift which makes us better musicians than any other race of culture on earth.

  • well the music of the british isles is wonderful. But what of scandinavia and the rest of europe? I think that european music is the best tbh. But there is something about the british isles and scandinavia that capture the soul. (im livving in Britain atm btw, awesome place. But ja, about the music, what about the rest of europe (pop not included, i mean folk wise)

  • This will sound like the obvious answer, but i believe all peoples of Europe have great folk music, be they Slavic, Iberina, Scandinavian, or so on. Yes, i have heard Scandinavian, and it is way up there. However, i hope you dont see me as biased, but i still see folk music of the British isles, as slightly better then Scandinavian, which i would rank second. I believe British is better, due to the mix of Celtic and Germanic(Scandinavian) blood.

    Sadly,Scandinavia misses the Celtic aspect.

  • If you listen to the Sami (Lapps) in Scandinavia sing, they have a unique soulful way of singing.

It is extraordinary the amount of great singers, bands etc that are Irish or of Irish descent, there seems to be a natural love and appreciation of folk music that is ingrained in the people.

But Europe has produced so many great writers of music and vocalists, I guess affluence has allowed people to focus on music and in other parts of the world perhaps history has been more of a struggle.

  • Nice Brazil shots, I spent a year and a half out there, awesome place.

I am not sure I agree with you entirely about your Ireland views, The IRA did win liberation for the country & people are reluctant to forget the harsh times of the past whether they live in the USA or Eire, it's still recent history.

I think being British its easy to be proud, but their pride was taken from them & their destiny shaped.

  • I have listed to more Irish/Scottish folk music than music from the rest of Europe. It is so magical! Would be interesting to compare folk music from other countries though but I don't know where to look.

  • try looking at Cultus Ferox, They are quite good, more wild than eerie

  • wow! i haven't heard this song in ever! i had almost forgotten how much I absolutely love their music!!

  • proud to be irish. The more i learn about irish history, the deeper the pride grows.

  • dont let pride in irishness turn into hate of everything british. that is a path matter uneducated, but impressionable people take. not that you are one, of course.

  • the reationship between my Island and the select few who rule England was always harsh. the destruction of Glendalough leaves many answers. who knows! life is etc.

  • I'm just a gringo, but my grandfather fled the troubles in 1910.. landed in the swamps of Louisiana

  • strange place to land - lets hope alligators didnt greet him first

  • you needed to live in the troubles like i did to really see what it was like, i grew up in it, lost a brother during it, im not saying im catholic or protestant im just me.

  • give a man what? :S

  • troubles in ireland and britain were spurred when the church split. before that, we were in peaceful union.

  • Sportymike the only torture i feel is walking by a celtic shop in belfast...personally i feel ..unoppressed...that cant be a word..

  • Amazing how some people can't forgive events that happened so long ago. *Sigh*

It's just relaxing, lovely music...not an excuse to re-ingnite international tensions!

  • Strange, when music is quite rightly regarded as the only true international language that Clannad by definition are said to typify all that is Irish.

Personally, I love the unique sound of this totally underestimated band. Enjoy it for what it is - very unique and very well performed :-)

  • I love it. :) There's something very mystical about their music, if that's the right word to use.

  • Grazie maestri

  • mean not meen

  • I like the bass and harp riff in this song.

  • Enya, Clannad and others like Capercaille have helped to enlighten my spirit through producing wonderful songs, chants and laments like these, I am so thankful. Long live these artists and peace and light to microcube 65 for posting this. Most Beautiful.

  • lol

  • Clannad is the voice of the Eire's soul.

  • A1,friend.i am english through & through, but i love irelands music, culture & people.thank god the days of the troubles are gone;heres to friendship,music,peace...& england & eire being brothers....

  • here here! =D

  • i glad as a irish person to hear that, but i dont think english people understand how much damage was done. 800 years is a v.long time to be at war, and that culture you admire just about hung on by its fingertips. Genocide is about what describes it and it will take a long time to forget. brothers i don't think so, lets just hope friends. we aint in the one family.

  • I agree with you totally. After all, it's only in the last fifteen/twenty years that Eire is coming out of 800 year slumber.

  • 800 years?. Who invaded in 1169? Well the Roches, Fitzgereralds,Fitzpatricks, etc did. But arent they Irish names? History isnt always so simple. Go read some history.

  • just look at the situation in belfast.

    98%of republicans are catholic.

    95%of loyalists are protestant.

religion does terrible things to men.

religion brings men to their knees, and that is wrong.

  • It isn't religion that does terrible things to men, it's greedy, power hungry people who use religion as an excuse to force their will on everyone else & it's been that way since before the crusades! It's never been about God, it's always been about the subjugation of another nation & the theft of it's wealth!

  • agree!

  • @MikeSutcliffe07

Well said my friend. I have been saying the same thing for the last 20 years. Anthony

  • @MikeSutcliffe07 You are absolutely right but i don't think youtube is the place to comment on that.

  • @MikeSutcliffe07 yes, it was exactly about 'subjugation & theft of a nation's wealth'.. in the name of God! Holy wars were the epitome of this. the 'power hungry' include the clergy right up to the Pope. where they elevate themselves to 'Godlihood'. their own Bible forbade them to do this but they're blind to even the most basic principles like 'the meek shall inherit the earth'.. so yes, religion isn't the culprit.. but back to the music.. Long live the Irish! & every1 else for that matter!

  • @sirGiedion Yet you insult the Irish with your prideful ignorance.

  • @DCDUO Enlighten me then.

  • @sirGiedion Enlighten you? As if your ego would allow such a thing. If you really wanted to, you could use this internet as a good thing and look back at history without sucking in protestant propaganda.

  • @DCDUO I'm laughing right now because if you knew me, you would know I have no ego of which you think I boast.. I'm definitely not protestant, and i'm not catholic either so before you start accusing someone of being one, you better get your facts straight first. and i don't care what religion you are or if you lack one entirely, that's fine with me.. but i've done some research in my time on the subject and i'm quite familiar with its fallacies as well as virtues.

  • @DCDUO oh and i try to respect every1's background, whatever their walk of faith or origin because there's something to learn and share from everyone and the different cultures that are out there ~ and that's why i originally asked you to enlighten me, but if you can't get past your adversarial posturing, then i guess i have nothing else to learn from you..

  • @sirGiedion Get over yourself, you offend the Church and claim to respect our background do you? I didn't call you a protestant, I said you are fond of protestant propeganda.

  • @DCDUO I respect the core teachings of the Bible, not the corrupt institutions that have built themselves up over the centuries and manipulated these teachings to suit their own often selfish needs. It's not hard to look back in history & all around you today to see all the atrocities committed "in the name of God".. and Christianity in general is not exempt from this behaviour. Humans by nature are imperfect.. even the high n mighty fall.. and that's not propaganda, that's simple fact.

  • @sirGiedion Christianity is excempt, people aren't. You've spoken some truth however you take particular aim towards Catholicism. If you respect the core teachings of the bible then you should respect the church that came from the command of Jesus Christ. I'm still not wrong about your pride, do you really think you wouldn't offend anyone by taking aim at us in particular and trying to pass yourself off as a great ecumenical person? If that is how you think.

  • @DCDUO Finally, a decent explanation! My original comment was directed to Mike Sutcliffe's statement above but I did not specifically single out Catholicism in that comment. It applied to many religions or more fittingly the people behind them - as you say. I apologize for offending you .. I could have picked some of my words more carefully and i'm sorry for that.

  • Comment removed

  • @sirGiedion It's no problem mate, I've picked you up wrong and was perhaps a bit severe. Forgive me also.

  • @DCDUO It's all good, no worries. I probably deserved it ;)

  • @DCDUO wow, of all the arguments people get into online, its rare to see someone actually apologize and try to make peace. kudos to you :)

  • @leiar1211 Ahh you should praise SirGiedion, he apologised, I really did pick him up wrongly. You're right though it is very rare it seems! Thank you ;)

  • @DCDUO Cmon Guys Chi-i-i-i-iLL Oout! Protestant - Smotestant!

Catholic - Pratolic! Why cant we ALL just get along?! Its the amazing, soul-moving music of the video on this page that most people are really interested in..So why dont you shake hands And turn up the Volume on this Phat Track! ;-)

  • @cliobaby words of wisdom no doubt... ;)

  • @sirGiedion lol u know dis ;-) glad it made u smile

  • @MikeSutcliffe07 I totally agree with you! That's why i'm not particularly religious.

  • @MikeSutcliffe07 It's a pity that the masses can't seem to grasp this simple observation.

  • @pe4cefrog arogance and ignorance go hand in hand more the pity

  • @MikeSutcliffe07

Interestingly enough, living in a mostly "Christian" nation I find it unsettling that most of these nominal Christians have no idea that your premise was one of the central themes of the "Old Testament".

So, I'll add this "flaw" not only predates the Crusades...but is possibly as old as recorded history.

  • @MikeSutcliffe07 too true, this i strongly believe also. Its easy to use religion as a excuse & unfortunately to many people follow this also :(

  • @MikeSutcliffe07 I couldn't have said it better myself...although I'd have said it in the same way! THANK YOU!!

  • @MikeSutcliffe07 so true!!

  • @MikeSutcliffe07 There is much truth to this sentiment. However, we should not discount the fact that often religion requires a closing off of certain mental faculties, which can in and of itself cause conflict.

  • Danke...ich denke genau so.

    Thanks!

  • What war went on for 800 years??

  • The war between Ireland and England. The English colonised Ireland and brutally pillaged and tortured the Irish people for 800 years.

  • Clannad is the voice of the Eire's soul.

  • Clannad is the voice of the Eire's soul.

  • Clannad is the voice of the Eire's soul.

  • I love Clannad have done for the past 25 years, but none of my friends seem to like them, maybe I should get new friends...

  • Sounds like a plan.

  • nahhh, what are friends if everyone shared the same likes...atleast its something you can enjoy by yourself....

  • @MalteseMarc

Yes, you are right. You have to !

  • Oh Yes, glad I clicked onto the right one here. From the album Past Present.

  • OMFG What a beautiful video

  • another great clannad track, the haunting melody and sceneary really go hand in hand.thanks for posting it micro.

  • luv the band

  • Thanks for posting this, Microcube! I don't have cable (MTV wouldn't play this anyway), so I enjoyed seeing this wonderful video. I've heard the song a million times, so it's good to see the video. Besides, I love Clannad, Eithne (Enya), and Maire. I've been to Ireland, by the way, and my heart longs to go back so I can die the happiest man on Earth. Happy Hallowe'en!

  • the music sounds like the irish landscape, mystic, powerfull and fantastic!!! never visited ireland before? do it now!!!

  • What a beatiful band is Clannad! Enya was singer of this band, replaced by her sister, Ciara Brennan

  • Enya was not replaced by her sister Maire, Enya joined the band for a couple of years after it was already formed with Maire, their brothers and uncles. Then Enya left, leaving the original band once more.

  • Yes, it's true. Enya is Moya's sister (Marie). Such a big family...

  • Sorry, I wasn't saying that they weren't sisters... just that Enya wasn't replaced... :o)

  • There is no sister named Ciara. I believe one of the brothers in named Ciaran, but the sister is named Maire.

  • A great song from a fantastic Band ! Clannad Forever

  • kl hey not a lot of comments here

  • This song is really great. Love it!

  • nice
