  • I was born with Elite II . You give me the Possibility to explore Sirius and Alpha Centauri. You give us the Possibility fly to the Stars. I have seen "gigantic attack Ships on Fire....." :)

I have seen the Colors of Space. Now i am a old Guy and my Dreams are grey.

Please David let our Dreams come true. Please David give me back the Colors. Give us a new Elite.

  • YOU ARE GOD

    MAKE MORE GAMES

  • Shame he is wasting his talent on child and casual games... :/

  • Rockstar Aught to have a word in his shell like ear (remember the environment In Red dead Redemption ?) with that and Mr Braben game play , he'd be writing his own cheque out

    BRING BACK ELITE PPPLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAASSSSS !!

  • Good video. I'm just yet another person waiting for elite iv. Please do make that game. I grew up playing frontier on the CD32 and A500 and PC (and the first elite) with friends. We are all modern gamers these days. It would be great to see elite made available on steam so that it can be played on linux so that our hardware can last as long as the game this time. But even if you only release it on consoles and ms windows, we'd still buy it loads!

  • Thanks for giving us all these awesome moments and memories with the Elite series, Dave! (and if you make elite 4, I'll buy as many copies as it takes! :D )

  • Hi David I just want to say thankyou for this game. I didn't get my copy of Elite until 1996 but when I did I played it for nearlly a decade. I loved the stock market part of elite, so much in fact that it inspired me to persue a career in stock trading, Elite changed my life and I really do hope you make Elite 4 an MMO version, that would be so much fun.

  • @leerees Does anyone know the author and name of the song in the background?

  • Most spacegames now let you build empires, factories etc. like X-universe etc. But I don`t want that, I just wanna fly, maybe repair my ship myself maybe, walk through it. maybe land on planets and find criminals myself in bars, while driving through cities on planets. I don`t wanna be a multinatonal, I want to be a pilot, maybe firefly style. Connected online so

you can actually truely hail ships etc and request help. Ah well, it isn`t coming

the playingfield is layed. A dream evaporated

  • For God's sake David, MAKE ELITE 4!!!!! How many fans have to scream for this before you do it?

  • Elite was the last of its kind, the final space sim game which did not treat the player like a vegtable.

  • This man's a GENIUS ! Thats for existing !!!

  • Good stuff and imba guy.

  • we don't like elite ...we love it !

  • best game ever ...thak you David...

  • If video game were Rock 'n' Roll, this guy would be our Ozzy Osbourne. Thanks a lot for changing the history of electronic entertainment FOREVER!!

  • Such an awesome game!!! I still play it, would love to see the same type of Elite with modern graphics...

  • Whats the name of the song in the background? Whose the singer..?

  • all done with 64k of memory! thats about the same as a modern text message....

  • you sir, are amazing! this IS my childhood!

  • David you are genius

  • Make Elite 4 for gods sake did you see how popular fallout 3 was. You could make something truly amazing.

p.s. please bring it out on ps3 and xbox360 too i want a game that isn't an bloody FPS.

  • Elite for the X360/PS3.........there's a thought!

  • How can Duke Nukem Forever make it and Elite 4 is still not being made?

  • Elite and Starflight the likes of which have not been seen for 15 years.

  • Freelancer, Eve Online etc. was totally crap and they are COPIES of Elite. Elite & Frontier are best, was always best. PLEASE DAVID MAKE ELITE 4,it will be a masterpiece

  • i love zarch. i want to play some space arcade games on my pc right now, specifically zarch!

  • EVE online is terribad. Give us Elite 4 now now now now.

  • David! I'm 'still waiting for you to produce elite 4!

Elite, a game created more than 25 years ago, remains the great game

    made by forever!

Simply brilliant and still I do not mind playing a few hours a month in this wonderful game

  • best game ever, of all time

  • @dctsolo: that's possibly the best idea I've heard in the whole history of ideas!

  • The HUD was absolutely brilliant... I had a go at eve the universe is brilliant but unfortunately there's no tactile element to flying the ships. Its just operating menus. No skill winth the fingers...

  • just a shame he hasnt done elite 4

  • v2000 was terrible. tur rib bul.

  • you sir are a legend , you created the one of the greatest games of all time frontier elite 2 , I wish that one day we will see another elite no other space game can even shine the shoes of elite even after all these years , I had it for my amiga 500 and it was the best game on that system.

thank you for many happy hours of gaming

  • This game was the best game ever!! .....We got all these far superior systems out now with the added feature of multiplay and nearly all the games lack so much in gameplay..where did it all go wrong? .. I so hope it comes out and puts "gameplay" back on the map...btw i second Misterb0z for my wasted childhood too lol

  • Great game. Happy memories. Mind you, I blame you for my wasted childhood.

  • Would it be possible to release a version for xbox live arcade...would make alot of fans very happy.

  • Big props to the man for Elite, but he should've mention that a big part of Elite's longevity was its devout fan base. There are some who will smack you up if you dare to say something bad about Elite, and which are still playing Elite religiously. I discovered Elite in 2003 I think and it became quite an obsession to me. It's hard to explain why, I'm not even of the '80s generation.

  • @Cassyan

The Elite series are timless games that will never die.. its not uncommon for me to fire up an emulator and play elite on occasion..

  • Because of Elite, it proved the NES was capable of 3D Graphics.

  • he must play eve online im pretty sure about its hes making in a way

  • @statnone Eve's designers said that Elite was a big influence on Eve, right from the start.

  • To make such a game a QUARTER OF A CENTURY AGO!!!!! Thats so, so amazing - there literally hasn't been a Space game that has matched it outside of the series - whats going on? I know this man is a genius but where are the other programmers picking up on his work? If 2 men could make Elite back then, a small team could make a modern Elite, never mind the uber dev teams out there today.. Why was this genre never truely pushed?

  • I need ELITE 4

  • i remember getting hijacked by the Thargoids in hyperspace many a time lol...

  • Thank you so much David Braben for your revolutionary space game. I spend many nights with a good friend together discovering the space and planets. We had a wonderfull time !!! Thank´s so much !

  • Ever thought about Activision Blizzard and Braben are producing a MMORPG called Elite 4 ^^

  • @Americanbud2005 Aiii! If only it were true! I understand Elite 4 is coming after the 2012 apocalypse.. :'(

  • yeh all nice mr Braben but please make the next instalment instead of speaking of how it all begun....THIS IS THE spacesim that got it all started for me and i guess for the whole genre

  • Gaming legend. He must be worth a few bob from the royalties to the original Elite game alone. It was ported to every game system under the sun back in the day. I originally had it for the Acorn Electron (with a mammoth 3 ships or whatever ha ha), got the most out of the machine though. The British TV docu from a couple of years ago about the history of the game was good as well.

  • 25 years . . . where do they all go, eh? The Elite games were the reason I became interested in astronomy. They literally opened up the entire Universe to me. Thank you, David.

  • I still remember being a pirate and acing Anacondas for their cargo :D The joy of launching a missile and the pain of having to pay for its replacement : /

  • Oh man I can sooo relate!! Those were the days.. So much fun, I've yet to find a game since that was so absorbing to play.

  • Mr. Braben... i know this is a huge request, but settle your dispute with Ian Bell and do another Elite together. Not for the players but for yourself.

  • @Arkanoid1212 Frontier was the true way..

  • rather make elite 4!

  • come on Frontier, make RollerCoaster Tycoon 4!

  • It is however a difficult thing to get right and very few games manage a good save method

On pc, states are just a part of most games but in truth it's just very lazy.I wouldn't expect a whole of folk to agree quite honestly but it's a terrible system - great for some but not all games

Even an intelligent autosave would be better here

A life simulator where every action a consequence, unless you don't like those consequences after all and load state

  • It's also worth noting that very few people can resist the temptation to use these save states in situations that don't honesty require them.Once they are aware, it's all too easy and the game then becomes less enjoyable for them in the sense that they do actually want an emposed challenge

Save states have their purpose but not here

Unless what you're maybe suggesting is that incentive shouldn't really be part of games any more?

  • It's all very well saying not to use them but that's missing the point

And of course it is effectively a cheat .Never at any time do you feel a sense of real danger - press the button and bingo you're back to where you were just moments ago when you were facing death or a huge error to your mission plan

The point being that in life you make mistakes that just can't be taken back - Elite worked so well on this basis but would most certainly not if you could just rewind hairy situations

  • @Adropacrich2

So why don't you ask David Braben to make a game that you will NEVER, EVER AGAIN IN YOUR LIFE be able to play again if you get shot down or crash just once?

It would even be trivially easy to implement: just make sure that the game requires a constant connection to the internet to run, and if you die once in the game you get permabanned from the server, which will never accept another subscription from you.

  • So that's the face of the creator of Frontier!

So please Mr. Braben, do not listen to

Adropacrich2: yes to savestates in Elite 4!

  • Great stuff mr Braben

Please no save states for Elite4.Any sense of tension that may have built up to that point, is fairly pointless if you can rely on a save state just a few clicks away

Games like Defender etc didn't have save states and it obviously works better for a reason.Elite1 worked very well too without states and the introduction of them into Frontier lessened any impact of choice

Save state are evil especially when it comes to a game involving choices

    Fairly obvious i think

  • You know, you can just CHOOSE not to save, without removing the freedom to do so from those who decide to.

  • *Infinity,

    sorry for the typo :)

  • I wonder if David knows about the game called "Infintiy: Quest for Earth". It has great potential in my humble opinion.

  • Was there right back then, played the C-64 version, reached the top status. Took my time i must say. Loads of fun, top quality gaming of that old era.

Thank you David, thank you Ian.

  • Right on Commander!

  • Silence. Those ships make hyperjumps and not rubbish gate-sector design of now common games. Also in "Frontier" he simulated NOT a planet with some space stations. We talking about simulating a GALAXY. Stellar body orbits and so on... yeah... i would love a spacesim that aims at realistic enviroment. They just do not do it this way anymore.

  • David Braben's barber is not so much of a legend...

hang on did you actually listen to anything he said or where you just staring at his hair?

  • Congratulations on the anniversary of one of the greatest computer games - Elite. But we want news of the sequel!

Will we see it in this generation?

Will there be a separate MMOG that is every bit as ambitious as the infinite possibilities of space travel?
