Today some of these groups carry on the tradition in name and songs with few, if any, original members. They fill the rosters with the best singers available.

We went to see them here in Australia and the same guy I saw 44 years ago was in it. Munro Powell, but the guy singing here has been around a long long time too. They gave a great performance, and as they said, they had to make some changes to keep up with modern day requests..

It's actually rather sickening how many ripoff acts calling themselves "The Platters" or some variation thereof there are. Without Tony Williams, who passed away in 1992, and without Sonny Turner, who is doing his own act, no one sounds like the Original Platters. And no one ever will.

One correction this is Herb Reeds' group as bad as the lead is they still are one of two legit Platters groups around the other being Sonny Turners' group. Lord, this lead singer is terrible.

Herb Reed is the ONLY person who can stand onstage and talk about "when WE revorded this..." and hey presto HERE HE IS!

Herb's been through a lot of lead singers in keeping his legacy alive for live performance.

Some of them (one named Tony Funches, for example) have been pretty good, though there can be only one Tony Williams (long since departed this life).

Unfortunately, this fellow he has here has some pretty serious pitch problems - along with an over-intense vibrato, he is often singing sharp (above the melody, for the non-singers out there). I hope he's got a better singer now.
