You know why..cause Frank didn't lick asses like U2 does and many other crap so call'd ''rock bands''!he did music for us who know what a real music means and not for bitch ass executives and radio shit who want to make us listen to the boring songs every day so they can make us buy their crap music, and i can go on and on..LONG LIVE FRANK ZAPPA.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm yes the Joe's Garage version is the best, but it is good to hear covers n other album versions. No, Frank should not be on the list of the best guitarists, "HE IS THE LIST" Would love to hear some one play this on a very soft back ground track that lasts for an hour whilst I make bread in the kitchen with my girl.
This is a terrible version though. The Joe's Garage version was the real statement. It is inextricable from the whole message in Jo'es Garage, made even more poignant by being followed by Green Rosetta. There is only one Watermelon in Easter Hay, and that is the Album version.
Pedestrian at best, drums sound like the are being played by a road-mender, and the guitar solo by a newspaper boy. Dreadful tune at the best of times but this rendition should have gone in the bin. Just getting real Zappa Fans.
This is one song that Dweezil will not play in concert, He said it would be too hard for emotional reasons. I already understood the emotional undercurrent this song has and I think I truly understand his reluctance to play it.
@winosdonotmarch I talked to him about 3 years ago(after the ZPZ show) and that what he told me when i asked about this song. T his personal favourite Zappa song .
Thanks for this vid - I knew he was prolific, but I've never saw all of his album art. So many happy memories listening to his music, seeing him live. I damn near had a coronary when I was in Seattle in the late 70's and saw the Edgewater Inn (Mudshark). He was a musical genius who did it his way. RIP
Thank you for this great rendition. And thank you for the great display of the album covers. I had the honor of visiting the studio / apartment of Mr. Calvin Schenkel in NYC in the late 60's and I have to tell you that it was the visual equivalent of going to a FZ concert.
Frank Zappa rules; he was a true musical genius, there´s nothing else to it in my mind! Too bad he´s almost never recognized for his incredible Guitar-playing, in hall of fame-listings and such. Dunno why that is, when he was so obviously brilliant and razor sharp. R.I.P Frank - you the man!
The guitar player lists are just made up of the conventional type people. Anything like this gets shunned because they know the ignorant readers dont wanna hear anything new and good :\
@StaffanPersson - That because most assclowns like what the industry wants them to like, and are a bunch of drones walking through life with their eyes wide shut and then die never to have experienced the pure genius that was Francis Vincent Zappa!
@StaffanPersson People believe that calling him a master composer is enough, which is why he gets shoved on the list. I bet Frank wouldn't even care, because those lists are made by morons. How can you even make a top 100 list anyways?
@LuneyTune72 I guess if you view creating music as some sort of competitive sport, then you will naturally think in lists. I on the other hand, like you, believe that such a way of thinking is incomprehensible, and an insult to true creative genius, like Zappa. I find it hard to believe that Zappa wrote music just so he could feel that he is better than other people.
he is still alive through his music people, one of the most talented musicians ever, it is sad that the media promote all this pop shit and not music like this. keep on rocking the house with fz people...
Zappa was about music, pop "shit" and the rest was roadkill on the path, Disco, Rap, the crap that passes for "alternative" turns out to be a stinkin' carcass on the side of the road. Music isn't marketing. and marketing doesn't make music..
such a beautiful song.....frank everyday i listen to your pure genuis and i hope you meet my da who passed onto the higher plane at the same time as you in 1993...explain your music to him and enjoy his honesty..miss you both two genuine people!!!!!!! Chillout:-) Belfast Cowboys
You BASTARD!!!!!!!! Gonna go into the corner of the room, hide under the duvet, and just cry my heart out now...er, thanks for helping with the grieving process. Took some time to adjust to the different time signature on this version - and forgot how soft and soothing the Scrutinizer's voice was.....he knows the end is near.

Zappa is incomparable to any other artist, he carved his own genre, it would be like comparing a Rolls Royce to a bicycle..
