Is it me, or is this episode actually better than the original, completely unrelated to the parody aspect? I actually felt for Van during the scene on the roof, and the Glee song fitted perfectly.

All of this may possibly be due to the fact that the end of Escaflone felt pretty damn abridged anyway...

@Philweasel You wouldn't be wrong in feeling that this part of Escaflowne felt abridged-- the series was originally planned to run 39 episodes, but during pre-production they realized they didn't have the budget so they condensed the existing story into 26.

I think it makes the pacing much better than your typical anime (which tend to develop slooooooowly) but that's just me. (-:
