  • excellent instructor

  • I like it...thanks!

  • You can absolutely choke someone from the crucifix position without a gi, and there is also a no-gi variation of the clock choke. I'd post pics, but not sure how on this page. Also, see Chris Hauter's "T-shirt chokes" video to really explore all the possibilities of choking someone with their shirt. Even when it stretches or rips, that extra material can often be used to the choker's advantage.

  • hello

could you post the that video

I use to have Chris Hauter street fighting tapes

and i would love to have that part again.

  • holds that depend on your opponent wearing a gi are silly.

  • competative jiu jitsu uses both gi and no gi, so gi techniques are widely used. of course many gi techniques arent applicable to wrestling with no gi, but techniques like collar chokes can still be done on someone's shirt or jacket.

also, practicing with the gi just makes grappling harder and teaches you to protect your neck.

  • personally, i practice techniques that will work in as many situations as possible, not just in competitive situations.

in a self defense situation you wouldnt be able to chokes someone like that with a tshirt on.

  • You never know what you are going to use in a street fight...

  • I live in Canada, hot weather is like three or for months a year the rest of the time people are wearing pants, sweaters, or even coats So it would be pretty silly to always train without a gi, because there are a million more possibilities when I am aware of gi techniques, unless I only trainfor sports like the UFC or Pride.

  • Not really. A lot of Gi-techniques can be used on someone's t-shirt or coat. If they're wearing a zip-up hoodie then it's a field day.

  • t-shirt is going to rip far before youre going to choke someone with it.

  • why is it always you kung fu guys who think you know anything about bjj? still pissed that delucia got it handed to him by royce i guess? btw, this will work fine on a t-shirt.

  • why is it that you assume im a kungfu guy? im assuming youve never busted a spleen...im a JJ instructor.

  • then you should know more before you teach bjj, this works fine on a t-shirt, you just have to bunch up the material.

  • You're name is "KungFuWookie", of course people are going to think you do Kung Fu.

And while a t- shirt might rip, a jacket sweat shirt, or just something with a collor will work fine. Besides, if the shirt rips, you can always switch to the neck crank.
