The thing is: we've strived so hard to be a part of the EU that we overdid it. We have brand new constitution and reformed laws and social life as well as become a strong and stable economy. So why do we need EU? We already achieves EU standards and in a good shape much better than most EU countries. Turkey has the second most powerful army in NATO. We dont need anything from the EU but the EU needs our soldiers, young population and entrepreneurship. EU fails to gain Turkey..

Take Greece for example: An EU country with its economy collapsed and doesnt recieve any help from the union whereas Turkey by its own overcame the global economic crisis with a 10% growth rate. Wallstreet and EU stock markets going down whereas Turkey's stock market is running upwards. Turkey and Russia came closer and signed a treaty for free trade and travel of goods and people.

@fog0death Of course the occupation of northern Cyprus is illegal.According to the UN and the rest of the international community it's illegal.Over 140 thousand Greek Cypriots in northern Cyprus were forcably expelled,their land stolen and their churches turned into mosques.Since the invasion 115 thousand Turks were illegally importer to the island to change the demographics.Turkey have no business occupying Cyprus.

Sorry, but the Greeks started this campaign of hate and have to deal with the consequences. Furthermore, the Kurds weren't killed at all, they were actually the ones doing the killings on the Ottomans orders; this is pretty well known info. Lastly, Kurdish language is no longer banned and there are several Kurdish language tv channels.
