@MegaCophater I think you need a longer wheel base to activate the switches. (at least where i am from) Besides working signals is a sign that there might still be some sort of activity taking place on the railroad. For doing such activities one must be shure that this is not the case.
@Sohave Seven months? Holy, how long does that take to respond to a simple question? But either way, you can use jumper cables with wire brush on each side going across width-wise.

@Sohave I know, there was fresh comments that time when i posted that comment, but yeah maybe a jumper cable with metal wire brush on each end, all it takes. might work, since i've spoken to the CN and CSX about that kind of thing, if i want to do that, i have to acquire a train schedule, in order to do so without any accidents/injuries and a 2 way CB-radio.
@MegaCophater Personaly I would not at any time ride a railroad which is still being used for railroad traffic. Because if a train would not kill me authorities almost would where I come from. plus if I have an accident on a live track the media and politicians would make life hard for anyone else with a rail bike. But if the railroad companies are liberal about things in Canad, there is wide schedules and slower trains and you got things under control, then sure go ahead!

Unlike the one in the video Mine is kept original (pedal power) But how will you get the wheels? you can probably get a second hand motor like a light Briggs and Stratton with horizontal shaft or similar cheap. Same thing with the iron. Have you welded before? if not may I recommend you get a Co2 welder. You don't have to be a professional for getting a god result with those.
