  • I like my 71 Mach 1 a little more then the 04 one lol. Back then you could tell the difference between a gt Mach 1 and normal mustangs. Now a days they are almost 100% the same - the body kit and paint

  • @steeda049 yeah but for 30k you get to have that beautiful fox 5.0 ltr infront of you, and getting 27 miles on the highway, that already sounds like a bargain to me.

  • in 2004 the top of the line mustang was 31k.. now the base model gt is 29k and can go over 40k for all the other options.. this is why i drive a 1998 camaro ss that i only paid 3500 for and i smoke 2011 gt's even if they come with a glass roof.. lol

  • This body style is completely better than the 05-11 models. The retro theme is the only thing that's "tired, and old". This car still looks fresh, 7 years later. The 05+ are EVERYWHERE.

    A) The price

    B) The room, I have a larger build and being in one of these felt to me, more at home

    C) That shaker hood scoop, oh god why did they have to get rid of it

    D) Styling, yes it's a worn look but, the new mustangs look too feminine, this one truly looks like its packin a V8. Plus with a little exterior modification, you've got a bad ass street machine

    E) The wide array of after market parts to choose from, racing or showing, heres your fix.

  • why does every argue about the two stang types of the last decade? The fox body stangs are favored by the younger racing generation while the new 4th gen. body are geared for the retiring baby boomers. With 10,000 of them retiring a day, Ford knew it had a really lucrative market. Both types are awesome cars, it just depends on your preference.

  • I just bought a Mach 1 and its amazing !!!! I had a 1999 GT. Its beats any chevy, I dont care if its a ZR-1 . Ford is the best and always will be !!!! And its the quickest car i ever owned. And I had a many of cars.

  • The interior is not lame or tired. It looks like a performance car is supposed to look. This car is awesome. If anyone wants fancy interior then they need to get a BMW or something.

  • I bought an 04 competition orange mach because of the sky high prices of a 04 cobra, Cobra is what i wanted but in all the mach really isnt a bad ride. Yeah the interior is cheap plastic but if you wanted quility and performance go buy a 60k CTS V. Thats just the mustang way since they started production in 64. In all this is my fourth mustang the rest were gt's, i wish i had cobra but the shaker hood add's cool points to make up for the sound of the eaton under the hood of a cobra.

  • "black, plastic, and tired"? They did that on purpose you douche to keep the price down. The 99 to 04 mustang was amazing for that reason. You could be a 16 or 17 year old and afford a throaty v8 because they gave you basic interior. The new stangs are wayyy to luxiurious IMO and thats why they are 30k plus

  • @steeda049 they cost 30k b/c of inflation. i'm 19 and have a '95 gt and my uncle has an '06 gt and i love his interior its not luxurious but they just added more color and a little more room. i'm 6'1" and find his more comfortable to drive b/c there are a couple more inches of leg room. the interior is also just more pleasing to the touch and the eye than the previous generation. as for inflation something that costs 32k in 2009 money would be 27k in 2004 money and 24k in 1999 money

  • @TheMikeyEl i used 99 and 04 because they were the years the new edge stangs where introduced and discontinued. also the GTs hovered between those prices depending on your options. a new GT starts at 28k and the highest i could get on ford build & price website was 44k and that is with every option imaginable.

  • @steeda049 just being honest with you man this car might sound good and be semi-fast but this cars interiors and the rest of mustangs dont even come close to hondas acuras benz's lexus, bmw,, etc... they may be faster then some of these cars but by no way a better CAR. the mach1 is the best mustang IMO and its descent. besides, who wants a shitty interior? maybe you should try a acura TL type-S thats class and luxury or a benz E55 or C55

  • @pureadrenaline25 mach 1's are not the best cobras are. they're the best looking(in my opinion) they're the fastest and most powerful stock and they have independent rear suspension and the best interiors.

  • @DelroyGrant funny, most cobra owners swap out the IRS, truthfully i think the Mach 1 looks better than the Termies both inside and out (personal preference), the only reasons to get a Terminator are you don't need to get forged internals, and to have the ever so popular Cobra. Aside from that, Mach 1's are less common, and less likely to get you profiled by police cuz you don't have COBRA blasted all over the place.

  • @musselman86 yea you're right about the IRS but people love drag racing. look im not bad mouthing the mach 1, i love all mustangs dearly but IN MY OPINION cobras are the most well rounded mustangs for the money. I didn't get a cobra because everyone wants one, i got a cobra because i loved the 98 cobra and the 03-04s are nasty from the factory. I respect your opinion though. Lets just keep STANG NATION strong.

And how can you even put Hondas and Acuras in the same league as stangs? mush less say they are better.....maybe on gas mileage.....people get mustangs because they want muscle cars, not princess carriages

  • @SecularTalk depends who you ask. The fox body was used since 1994 although they gave it a facelift with the new edge look. The new mustangs cater to the retiring baby boomers who grew up with the classics.

  • @steeda049 true. I have a 2004 GT convertible premium that was purchased by the first owner in 2004 for about $28,700. My father has a 2010 glasstop V6 premium and he paid $29,500. And thats with the ugly 220hp six that they put on the 2010 models. The v8's are very pricey

  • but ive seen mach1's on here run 290rwhp stock on a mustang dyno and ive also seen many places on the internet where it says fors underated both of them where the cobra has 390 and tha mach 320 325 something like that

  • the most I have seen is 265whp. Thats what my car makes and that is roughly 312hp at the crank.

  • Until they fixed the problem in 2000 for the 2001 model year. The 2001 was truly 320++ HP... rated at 320.  I have a magazine test of the 01' Cobra running 105.7 mph in the 1/4 mile. That trap speed alone proves they fixed the problem & then some. The best trap speed I could find on the 99' Cobra was 101.4 mph. Most tests were 100 mph for that year cobra.

  • This body style IMO is perhaps the best marriage of past and future design ford has turned out, not to say there's anything wrong with the 05+ models they are just too retro for my taste. I kinda like what they're doing with the 2010's and the 11's are getting an engine revision, I've heard the 5.0 is coming back with 400+hp.

  • it doesnt give really give a whole lot. the air from the shaker blows right on the air intake. the gains from it arent noticeable till your going like 120 mph but what it does do is increase volumetric efficiency of the incoming air. . basicly the engine doesnt have to work so hard to suck air in

  • i own an 04 mach, i bought a steeda cai, and cat back exhaust. its a fun car! i just wish it came with a 4.10 gear ratio for the 5spd.

  • My dad used to have an 04 mach 1, it had a racing chip and some other upgrades. the mach 1 can run racing fuel btw.

  • yeah i have an inch and a quarter rise on my shaker, and i love the way it sits compared to stock. my car dynoed at 287rwhp with c&l cold air and off road x pipe. so about 320hp.

  • Don't even waste your money or time on cams. Sure they make it sound good, but they don't add as much horsepower as you think and you would get more hp with some boost. But if cams are your thing, i'd suggest a shop do it, valve covers of course have to come off, intake possibly, timing chains...few other things, and then a complete retune, and then you're set!

  • DONT get cams. Big waste and it gets to be a pain to drive if its your daily driver. Instead go with headers (maybe, if you're willing to let somebody drop your engine out), an X-pipe, or just some sweet sounding catbacks. Past that, dont worry about a cold air, thats what the shaker does... I suggest going for an SCT flash drive. Right now in my 2004 i'm making over 350 horses at the crank (around 300 at the wheels) with less than 1 grand spent.

  • Are long tube headers emissions legal? In the magazines the ads say "for off road use only", but since they dont do the tail pipe test anymore, will the computer send up a red flag with long tubes?

  • @YellowDodge67 you've already had this answered elsewhere, but for other peoples benefit....l/t's are street legal in most states, doubtful anywhere you have to pass emissions tests though. Here in wisconsin it's not just legal, it's encouraged.

  • Comp Cams makes i believe 5 sets of cams for the 4v engine, they have ones for mild street cars to sets for all out strip use. A buddy installed the street/strip set and it got him about 65 rwhp plus a nice idle. They run about $1220 though since there are 4 cams all together, thats not including new springs or installation costs. I've installed cams on old school v8's and its easy, these new modular 4v engines however aren't so I'd def take it to a shop. Hope that helps.

  • I read awhile back that the Car really has 335hp just ford underrated so it wouldn't look faster then the SVT... Donno why.

  • The 03 SVT Cobra has 390 HP so even if the Mach 1 has 335 Hp its still less then the Cobra.

  • Yeah, I have heard a couple of talking heads speak of visibiltiy issues. It is just not so. My shaker hood is 1/2 inch higher than stock and does nothing but look cool.
