they don't seem to have much experience but a cool style of sword play. i wonder if i can set up an informal version of this at my high school? probably wouldn't tell the fencing coach. he would flip shit.
I'm quite offended at your comment that we're only interested in "playing dressup"....I and all of my collegues have studied (and put into practice!) the manuals of Di Grassi, Alfieri, Thibault, Capo Ferro, Agrippa, just to name a few of the fencing masters of the 15th and 16th centuries. Your "fencing" didn't come around until after them, and then only at the behest of the French King....
no. foil is a weapon/discipline used in the sport of fencing. Im not sure what this people think they are doing but it is not fencing. Its great to watch though. good way to get laughs-
Well, if you are going to relate their skill to other SCA fencers then I guess they are doing fine. However, if you were to compare what they were doing to any level of swordsmanship, you would be in error. But they get a 10 for playing "make believe".
I am a 'C" rated fencer and compete in "real" fencing. These guys clearly focus on playing dress-up rather than swordsmanship. They would get their ass handed to them by most E rated fencers. And don't call me "great one" but rather "Your Eminence or Exhalted on". 8)
aaah ok... if you dont mind me asking which weapon do you fence? I am an unrated Saberist as well as an SCA fencer.
and I should point out that it might not be obvious in this example but alot of SCA fencing comes from Renissance and Medieval Fencing manuals as well as a little bit of sport fencing (but rather than a point system the goal is a "kill")
I fence eppé foil and saber. "Sport" fencing has it's origins in training for the dual. In spite of the point system each touch scored in foil represents a kill. Eppé is a bit different as it prepares the fencer for the touch either fatal or non-fatal. Saber has been ruined by the recent rule and timing changes.
This looks so extremely nerdy. Unfortunately, in a bad and unathletic sense.

Why is it that SCA fencing always looks like it has less rules than regular fencing?
It looks so much more fun *u*

I have participated in SCA fencing for over 10 years..
Prior to that, I was instructed in Foil fencing by the former President of the FIE....and remain very good friends with him.
I can tell you that you're talking out yer ass, dude...

How long have they been practicing at that? I only got to do this for a few months, and I fence way better than that...

I agree... Electric Saber has been screwed up beyond recognition. like I said I do Sport Saber

@TazerGheist
Are you serious, electronic saber is the only way to tell whether have landed a final blow on your target it's way easier to tell than this.
