I have my shirt and shape on 2 different files and I cant seem to import them correctly. I have my shapes on 1-3 layers but I cant import my shirt into layer 6 for some reason?
So i've installed 2.49 just to follow this tutorial on the rigging since yours seems to be the most straightforward one out there. But at this point I get stuck.. since 2.49 won't import or append my 2.61 blend files somehow. my 2.49 also tells me I can't export as .dae because python is missing. Which is weird because I do have python installed. I've followed part 1 up till 3 on 2.49 and was planning on finishing the actual object skinning/ weight copying on blender 2.61. How to do this?
@Fragcat Sorry, I don't have a 2.61 version of the tutorial up yet. But, you can look on my channel to see a tutorial on how to bring in models from a newer version of Blender into Blender 2.49.
Hey! I would just like to say that your videos are the best, very clear (lovely voice btw :p). I am currently usin Bleneder 2.59 (wiz daxters 2.5X plugin), because my pc doesn't support older versions. At this point in the tutorial I am lost, so I am wondering if there is any chance to get tutorials for newer versions.
hi,i find your videos very helpful,i started new to this whole mesh design and came smoothly till video 4,i stuck at the part where you bring out the ready made shirt from the square right pannels,do you have any tutorial how to create that shirt and import it to that page, thnx a lot
@nilsy65 Thanks for the comment. :) I don't have a video on making the shirt yet. If you'd like to experiment with that shirt, send me your e-mail address and I'll send it to you.
I am not sure if this is a good point to ask this, but I was playing with Marvelous Designer and am having trouble importing the .obj from MD into Blender to test the whole process from MD-SL mesh. Is there a specific way of saving the MD file, that only saves the garment? Thank you in advance!
@GypsyWinters Hi Gypsy. This series is just about rigging/skinning. I imported a shirt that I made at another time. If you'd like to play with the shirt model, let me know your e-mail address, and I'll send it to you.
would you happen to have any tutorials or would you be able to point me to a tutorial that explains how to model mesh, even something as simple as a shirt like wat you created in this video.
@tyrn06 There aren't a ton of videos out there about modeling clothing specifically. But, you can find generic modeling videos at places like Blender Cookie etc. In the future, I plan to make some clothing specific ones.
@infinitekiwi You need levels of detail because you don't want all the polygons in a high LOD showing when the person is zoomed out lets say 100 meters away. It uses resources it shouldn't. You could just make a high LOD and let the SL uploader make automatic LODs for you. However, those LODS are visually ugly 9 out of 10 times. You can leave out LODs all together, but that will make the item prim heavy and, as I said in the first sentence, very inefficient,
Thank you so much for the tutorial! A question: for users that are using 2.5, there seems to be no "clean mesh" or "make real" options. Are these this required to do, and if so, what are the substitutes?
@emmapomd Hi there :) Thanks for the comment. The "Make Real" button doesn't exist in 2.59. You don't need it. Also, don't click "Apply" or "Apply Shape" on the armature modifier either. You can just leave it as it is. The clean weight script doesn't exist in 2.59. Hopefully, it will be updated. But yes, you can live without it for now.
@yunuen1983 Not yet. I decided to go with a simpler object first. I'm going to do a series on making a simple lantern then move on to something more complex like clothing.
@ashasekayi :-( I'll be waiting i started with your tutorials last night had a couple of hard spots but your videos are a lot more motivating and useful then the others I've seen so I'll be waiting :-D
@yunuen1983 It's really cool to hear that you found them motivating. :) If you want a copy of the shirt to play with until I release the tutorial, let me know.
@ShenanigansEtc hehe I didn't see this before I sent you the direct message. But, I'll just repeat it for anyone else interested. The shirt was box modeled in Blender. I started with the lowest level and worked my way up. I'll do some follow up videos later showing how to make some basic items like shirts, pants and dresses.

@RDmem3 How are you importing it? If you are using append, the item will be on the same layer that it was in the original file.

@alainatoadpipe You save it out as an .obj file. Just make sure to uncheck everything except "cloth shape".

@tyrn06 If you mean the .dae settings for Blender 2.49, I click: "triangles", "only export selection", "only current scene" and "use relative paths".

Why do we need to have different level of details for our clothing item? Is it ok if we only have 1?
