Not only does John have an amazing technical undertanding and wealth of knowledge he's also makes it interesting and entertaining to watch. This guy ought to have his own TV show or something.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps fuel inj. and tank clean and rustfree
This guy says to always adjust your valves with the engine hot. This contradicts every set of instructions I've read (usually says the engine needs to be stone cold!) Though he seems to know what he's doing, so which is correct??

`This guy` says to always adjust the valve when the engine is cold!! 5 min. into this little film he says that the engine has to be cold, and that the engine hasn´t run in 20 years...
As many engines as I've built (to include several A and B-series BMCs, and a couple of Triumphs), I never realized the relationship between opposing cam lobes.
You just made doing my Midget's valve adjustments much less of a chore! Thank you!
informative videos John and very very helpful ..
on this one you say .. .015 gap for most mg's up to the early mgB .. what about the '77 thru '80 B's .. ? should there be a different gap for these ?

different engines different setting. just make sure that the specs you use are for hot or cold engine. hot specs are usually smaller.

We know metal expands when hot so the size when hot is the actual. The Haynes manual indicates to adjust when hot as well.

Thanks John. I have read how to do this but there is no substitute for seeing it actually done correctly.
