@themadasf I disagree with a second tandem being useless. it's a less "trial by fire" way to get more comfortable taking control of the freefall, piloting a canopy, and getting a feel for the landing area. have you seen some of the AFF vids out there? not everyone is as natural as our friend here.
Wow that is amazing!!! I want to do AFF also but i'm so scared! I've done 2 tandems but i'm not sure i'm brave enough to do all of that! Loved the story, congrats!! :)
@TheMikeyMachine they teach it in ground few days before jump, and knowlege is tested in a theory test before any AFF jumps. Without passing it you wont be able to jump.
dude, I have got to find out what song you used during the first part of your awesome video. also, how much did it cost approximately for the whole AFF course if you don't mind me asking...just trying to get an idea of what I might ahave to pay possibly.
@MrBcmort3 The song is "Inside" by UNKLE... My AFF will cost me about 2300 that is with repeats. If you don't have any repeats.. you will make out good. Expect repeats..costs vary between drop zones.
@DeviousBetrayer Buy your own plane then just jump out. Wait, I know a pilot that just might oblige....
Seriously, you need to do some training before you jump solo first time, unless you are suicidal. Jump AFF stage one and see what you think after that.
Thanks for uploading. It's good to see in one vid what needs to be demonstrated to pass each AFF level. I've done a tandem and I'm looking forward to getting into my AFF within the next 6 months.
OH my god xD the instructors are so cal!! I would never be able to be that calm if i were to be falling to the ground from thousands of feet above D: I do indoorskydiving, not real :) still fun to watch though
This is awesome man. I'm trying to save enough to take my AFF course next year. I even have my chute picked out, along with my wingsuit. I have a question for you...what is this totally rad song you used in this video?? I love it!
I'm going to do an AFF in the upcoming summer. This video gave me a perfect idea what I can expect. Which part (level) was the most difficult one to master? You said you failed on 3 and 5, but are these levels the most difficult?
Awesome. Tomorrow morning I'm doing two tandems and then my first AFF jump. This was definitely helpful to me, nice to know what to expect going into it. Thanks!
So you have to get a total of 25 jumps to get your A license correct? Is there a time period to do that once you complete AFF? I'm saving up money now to do my AFF next summer, but I won't have enough to do all 25 or get my own gear for awhile
This is an awesome video, man. I'm doing my first jump next weekend and it's good to see all the levels put together to show what to expect. Thanks a bunch!
Great job buddy, I am a Military Skydiver in Canada and we used the wind tunnel to learn over an hour, you did an awesome job.....the more you do more fun it is!
Wonderful video! Just made my first tandem jump last week and I'm really looking into the AFF course. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Cheers!
@UltraV1olet No, I didn't. I did my AFF in 2 months and saved money to cover the possibility of failing some levels (which I did, by the way, failing level 3 and 5 if I remember correctly).
@zedr77 thank you brother! I already did my AFF C 1 and C 2 on Friday. I failed my C 2 cos of my legs not staying straight. My C1 was "perfect" as per my jumpmasters word.
Believe it or not, the last thing I saw before I jumped was watch this video. It's been my mantra and my mental strength. Thank you so much brother! and hopefully, one day we'll have a beer in some DZ (am paying!) Blue skies!
@zedr77 I don't jump at the moment due to an injury, but always wanted to get certified. Once I'm healed, my buddy said he would certify me for free(or next to nothing). From the video, you seemed to do a pretty well job and made it look very easy, restoring my confidence to go through w/ it once I'm healed.
@zedr77 in all honesty if you'd invested in $100 worth of tunnel time it would have prevented you from failing the two levels. one jump = 1 minute of freefall for about $200, $100 of tunnel time = about 8 minutes of freefall time.
@adeonigh you're talking about the freefall time. It's still a huge difference. You will fall more stable, but the main reason you fail is because it's too overwhelming... 'You're jump out of a freaking airplane!'
@Maaacle Yup. With flying colors actually. That AFF level is not about doing the flip correctly, but recovering from a back to earth position. Good luck with your levels, it's going to be an amazing experience!
@Maaacle I have just completed a tandem and am totally addicted ! Would you recommend doing another tandem before i commit to the AFF course? My video is at themadasf
How many jumps have you done to date? Would appreciate some constructive advice!
Hi! I'm going to start my AFF course in a few days & I can't wait! I'm more than excited-but more than terrified as well even though I've already been skydiving. I've watched countless videos but YOUR video has inspired me in SO many ways; THANK YOU! I really love the song by U.N.K.L.E. but I don't know the name & can't find it- would you mind telling me? I was planning on using Parabol/Parabola by Tool(my favorite band) but this song is AMAZING-I hope you don't think me a copy cat-thanks! :)
Started my AFF almost a month ago. That was ground school.. then the weather made it impossible for nearly 3 weeks. Did my AFF 1&2 yesterday, line twists on both jumps. Landed perfect on my 1st landing and had to PLF on my second. Unfortunately I ran out of time on my second jump ( jump altitude was 10K) I don't think 30 seconds of free fall was enough for me to complete my PHT's and turns even though my instructors said I had plenty of time....so I redo my AFF2 this coming Friday
That was an awesome video to watch, cheers man. I did a tandem jump and caught the disease of parachuting, you pretty much convinced me I need to do AFF now! great work. Do you still jump ?
@oswaldnyc I've taken a 9 month break because of a problem with my back (not related to skydiving) and my job (also not related to skydiving, of course ;)), but I'm about to go back to the sport in a few weeks. About your AFF: do it!!!
I plan on going through the AFF program in just a few months in order to attain my A-level license for my senior project. How long did it take you to get your initial 7 jumps in?
I completed my last tandem yesterday that I will do EVER! I signed up for my AFF classes coming this May 7th 2011. We did practice pulls on the ground since I was signing up. I was also given an altimeter to gauge our fall. I missed pulling the chute at 6000ft. But was given the toggles to fly the canopy all the way to prior to landing. I am so addicted now!
I'm about to do my first jump, AFF 1, and this video has helped me a lot!!!!! Thanks so much for the great footage! I hope I'm as good student as you were!!!! Cheers..
@LeanderRandom Hi! Those are practice pulls. You do them to improve your awareness of the position of ripcord. If you notice, in the first jumps I do three practice pulls as soon as I am "stable"; in the later jumps, I only do it once.
As a side note: in the first jump, the instructor had his arm in front of the ripcord, so I couldn't find it! In the third and final attempt, he finally notices it and moves his arm.
@ kparkerjf & dooley1011 ... Blue Skies ...the time is almost here.... As April nears I wait impatiently for the phone call and or an email. My money is burning a hole in my pocket I am soo anxious to begin my AFF
Starting tomorrow!!!! Can't wait.... did it once a couple months ago, tandem. Was so fricken awesome I said I'm not jumping again unless it's training to go solo. Not wasting anymore money on another tandem. I hope I do well...
Im looking forward to my AFF course later this year and since im 15 never done a Tandem im going to be scared to death but atleast i don't have a problem with heights. Nice vid man.
Hi-love the video-and the story about your dad, its a great video and i hope people wanting to do AFF watch it, as i think its quite inspiring and a good demo of the basic requirements needed to complete the course. I was in the south of Portugal for the last week trying to finish the same course but the weather has been against me, so i will return in 2 weeks to complete it. looking forward to going solo!! Blue skies YEE HAAA!!
This video was one I watched many times when I had dreamed of my skydiving dream. I currently have 10 Jumps and still going. I will skydive until my life is claimed by the blue skies.
I have watched this video more times than I can count. I plan on beginning my AFF classes next year 4/2011. I have become an information hound on learning as much as I can from videos like yours and becoming a member of the website " Dropzone" After reading the student handbook on the site, I can see what you are doing in each dive.... thanks for making this and the gift to your Father.

Great video! I like the way you "demonstrated" how to return to a stable position by arching. I'm doing the AFF class after the first of the year. I needed to see this. :) Thanks!
@uSuckHahol Hi, I failed three tests, finishing my AFF on my 10th jump. For brevity's sake, I didn't show those jumps in the video. An average skydiver makes it in 10 jumps, so my suggestion is to save up a little more, so you can do all the jumps in a row even if you fail some.
Great Video, I've watched it many times for inspiration. I also love the music. I did my AFF this summer and now have 30 dives. Can't wait for spring. Check out my video. It covers jumps 14 and 15. First ones without the instructor. Thanks again!!!
Excellent relaxation in the door and during launch!!! Most people on their first "legitimate" solo jump grab or kick for air, but you remained suave until stabilization. Impressive! Keep up the good work!!!
@alecsflava Thanks. The real objective of the Front and Back Loop levels is to assess you ability to make a recovery from a back-to-earth and destabilized position. To execute the loop correctly is of secondary importance.
Doing my raps course next year 2nd of july ,i have done 3 tandems before the last one 31 may this year from 14000 feet what a buzz, but not jumped out on my own yet, i cant wait !!!!!!!
@zedr77 my jump went sour fast was upside down for 1500ft then they let go lol had to free-fall from 8500ft by myself was a lot better but with no one hanging on to me and on top of that it was a night jump ... first day doing my AFF
This is a great video for people pursuing their license; the best I've found yet for the AFF progression. I can relate to your story in a way - my dad has his jump wings.. but as a Green Beret. Thanks so much for posting and congrats.
Took my ground school Sunday, first jump friday. Thanks a ton for the video, looks like you did everything perfectly and went off without a hitch. Inspiring and a confidence builder for sure. thanks
Love your video!

I have become an information hound on learning as much as I can from videos like yours and becoming a member of the website " Dropzone" After reading the student handbook on the site, I can see what you are doing in each dive.... thanks for making this and the gift to your Father.

@Bambadda I just found this vid and really like it. I have been reading the SIM and am starting the AFF in a couple of weeks. I'm pretty stoked!

Great video! Just out of curiosity, which three levels did you have to re-jump?
t34bravo 1 year ago

Nice to see this vid, maybe a year dato but who cares xD
I recently also graduated my aff! (9nov)
However all the acrobatics you have to do is to teach you 1 thing:
And that is getting in a stabilized belly down position at all times after an unstable moment, At least thats what they told me xD
Im having a blast atm with my solo jumps.
Blue skies!

@alecsflava Thanks. The real objective of the Front and Back Loop levels is to assess you ability to make a recovery from a back-to-earth and destabilized position. To execute the loop correctly is of secondary importance.

This is a great video for people pursuing their license; the best I've found yet for the AFF progression. I can relate to your story in a way - my dad has his jump wings.. but as a Green Beret. Thanks so much for posting and congrats.

Amazing, i kinda learned something out of this video, just 1 question, why did you keep on throwing your hand at the string?
Nokitfer 1 year ago
@Nokitfer Those are "practice pulls", meant to mentally rehearse the opening manuvering before doing it for real.

@zedr77 aha, I see, thanks

well done! I start my AFF in September and this has made me feel more comfortable with the levels! Brilliant filming by the way.

I did my jumps and freefalls before there was AFF or Tandem...your video is inspiring.
I'd love to get back into it.
How about taking your father up for a Tandem!
