It is important to differentiate between the numbers killed and the methods used; gas was the principal weapon of murder however, the Nazis also used shooting, hanging, beating, starvation as well as allowing typhus to run rampant in the camps towards the end.
@rearly62 I would like to add on the question of typhus that the Nazi authorities were responsible for it. It is an easy disease to combat, all it takes is cleanliness and food. By denying this to millions of people the disease ran rampant - not just in the camps and ghettos. One can look at pre war medical records to see how little typhus there was in Europe.

@GenevaSwiss Before WW1 this camp was in Austria although very close to both the German and Russian borders. It was used as a transit facility for people wishing to leave Austria and emigrate mainly to America. They would stay here awaiting their transit papers through Germany.

IpkisStanley - slavery was utterly evil. So many innocent people were uprooted and worked to death sometimes, but death was usually the result of slavery not the intention. The holocaust however was a systematic plan to industrially slaughter a whole religion of people, death was not the result but the ultimate objective. Some slaves were treated differently to others, whereas with the Jews this was never allowed to happen, certainly in the medium/long term.

Of course, that was illegal under International law, so he issued an order on March 10, 1945 and verified by his initials on a cable of that date, that German Prisoners of War be predesignated as "Disarmed Enemy Forces" called in these reports as DEF. He ordered that these Germans did not fall under the Geneva Rules, and were not to be fed or given any water or medical attention. The Red Cross was not to inspect the camps, for under the DEF classification, they had no such authority.
You did not mention that all of Europe was on food rations for more than three years after the war officially ended. DEFs were not on the top of the list as would be expected. Also, Eisenhower did not realize that so many Germans would surrender and was ill prepared for it given all the issues at play. Keep in mind who started this mess when you try to condemn people.
I think most of Europe was on rations for much longer than three years! As far as I recall, (and I may be wrong on this one) rationing was stopped in the UK in 1955!

I've read the book and though several thousands of German POWs died in Allied hands, (of wounds, disease and hunger) the evidence that this extended to hundreds of thousands is non existent. Compare that with 3 MILLION Soviet prisoners dying in german hands and stop trying to creat some moral equivalence. The Nazis caused the war, murdered non combatants on a huge scale, committed genocide and got what they deserved. No stab in the back myth like 1918, just total and utter defeat.
I do not doubt that German POWs died in Allied hands largely due to the lack of shelter and medical facilities available in the period March - June 1945 and have even mentioned this in videos and filmed the military cemetary where some are buried. However this was not deliberate policy, unlike the terrible loss of life as you point out of Soviet POWs for which the Nazis had more than adequate time to prepare for.

One month before the end of World War II, General Eisenhower issued special orders concerning the treatment of German Prisoners and specific in the language of those orders was this statement, "Prison enclosures are to provide no shelter or other comforts." Eisenhower biographer Stephen Ambrose, who was given access to the Eisenhower personal letters, states that he proposed to exterminate the entire German General Staff, thousands of people, after the war.

I have just watched part of another one which has been termed the holocaust lie. I suspect the poster of the film is a denier liar because David Irving is not denying the holocaust in this film. He is however repeating things about Auschwitz which are known to be completely false such as the number of dead, how much coke to cremate people etc.

Another thing that amazes me with denier liars is how they consider bodies to burn. For example, it is possible to burn 250,000 German bodies in Dresden on one pyre in secret in a couple of weeks but it is not possible to burn a comparable number of Jewish bodies over a period of several months, in the open on several pyres.
At the same time, 40k Germans can be burnt in 20 minutes in Pforzheim but each individual Jewish person takes a much greater amount of fuel.

@GenevaSwiss Before WW1 this camp was in Austria although very close to both the German and Russian borders. It was used as a transit facility for people wishing to leave Austria and emigrate mainly to America. They would stay here awaiting their transit papers through Germany.

On the contrary I just don't like to see OTHER atrocities belittled by an undue dwelling on the holocaust (for example the holocaust has so much more coverage on history channels than slavery, here in the UK at least).
I've heard it referred to as the worst crime many times only last week on George Galloway's radio show he referred to it as that!

IpkisStanley - slavery was utterly evil. So many innocent people were uprooted and worked to death sometimes, but death was usually the result of slavery not the intention. The holocaust however was a systematic plan to industrially slaughter a whole religion of people, death was not the result but the ultimate objective. Some slaves were treated differently to others, whereas with the Jews this was never allowed to happen, certainly in the medium/long term.

I have seen his film but it is that of someone who does not know a lot making some superficial judgements to suit a particular argument.
His film starts off with nonsense saying the Eisenhower killed two million German POWs or something equally nonsensical - cant remember exactly what now.
David Cole later admitted the Auschwitz film to be a hoax - only the denier liars came up with some story about him being forced to recant.

Instead of believing tourists, turn to the experts, people who have spent years studying this e.g. Jan van Pelt, Claude Pressac et al.

Of course, that was illegal under International law, so he issued an order on March 10, 1945 and verified by his initials on a cable of that date, that German Prisoners of War be predesignated as "Disarmed Enemy Forces" called in these reports as DEF. He ordered that these Germans did not fall under the Geneva Rules, and were not to be fed or given any water or medical attention. The Red Cross was not to inspect the camps, for under the DEF classification, they had no such authority.

You did not mention that all of Europe was on food rations for more than three years after the war officially ended. DEFs were not on the top of the list as would be expected. Also, Eisenhower did not realize that so many Germans would surrender and was ill prepared for it given all the issues at play. Keep in mind who started this mess when you try to condemn people.

Eisenhower, in his personal letters, did not merely hate the Nazi Regime, and the few who imposed its will down from the top, but that HE HATED THE GERMAN PEOPLE AS A RACE. It was his personal intent to destroy as many of them as he could, and one way was to wipe out as many prisoners of war as possible.

axis pow's were classified as "disarmed enemy forces" and thus not subject to the geneva convention !

I've read the book and though several thousands of German POWs died in Allied hands, (of wounds, disease and hunger) the evidence that this extended to hundreds of thousands is non existent. Compare that with 3 MILLION Soviet prisoners dying in german hands and stop trying to creat some moral equivalence. The Nazis caused the war, murdered non combatants on a huge scale, committed genocide and got what they deserved. No stab in the back myth like 1918, just total and utter defeat.

I do not doubt that German POWs died in Allied hands largely due to the lack of shelter and medical facilities available in the period March - June 1945 and have even mentioned this in videos and filmed the military cemetary where some are buried. However this was not deliberate policy, unlike the terrible loss of life as you point out of Soviet POWs for which the Nazis had more than adequate time to prepare for.

You are wrong Alan. One month before the end of World War II, General Eisenhower issued special orders concerning the treatment of German Prisoners and specific in the language of those orders was this statement, "Prison enclosures are to provide no shelter or other comforts." Eisenhower biographer Stephen Ambrose, who was given access to the Eisenhower personal letters, states that he proposed to exterminate the entire German General Staff, thousands of people, after the war.

I have just watched part of another one which has been termed the holocaust lie. I suspect the poster of the film is a denier liar because David Irving is not denying the holocaust in this film. He is however repeating things about Auschwitz which are known to be completely false such as the number of dead, how much coke to cremate people etc.

Irving has not changed one bit in his views. He is an opportunist and has measured his words more carefully. He regrets using the word "hoax" etc. He is trained as a mathematician and learned early on he could make more money writing sensational history. His debacle with Lipstadt has crushed him and he has not really recovered. He sued her in Britain because the laws there are very strict for slander & he was expecting a big pay off. He adores Hitler like many neo nazis and deniers.

Another thing that amazes me with denier liars is how they consider bodies to burn. For example, it is possible to burn 250,000 German bodies in Dresden on one pyre in secret in a couple of weeks but it is not possible to burn a comparable number of Jewish bodies over a period of several months, in the open on several pyres.
At the same time, 40k Germans can be burnt in 20 minutes in Pforzheim but each individual Jewish person takes a much greater amount of fuel.
Are Jews harder to burn?
