Was about 11 years old when I heard this song coming from my neighbours window. Months before Wuthering Heights was released and I really hated that voice! A few months later, while hearing these goddess sounds through that window I was sold...for life!
Wow.Fucking so haunting and moving, just brill.None of todays so called stars could ever come close to this genius. If only they had a tenth of Kates talent they would be so lucky. She raelly is something special.
I had all Kate's albums when I was a teenager. Does anyone know if I can get them on CD? What an incredible woman. A pioneer. Creative, artistic and stunning. I could listen to this album forever...
@MsTeri61 Yes most of them are. Just have to check around. May have to be ordered but they are available. I remember having a couple of her albums about 30 years ago. Hadn't listened to her for years before today. Forgot just how good she is.
I got into this album 10 years after its release - it reminds me of the late 80's when I met my wife. Wish I was there again every time I hear this...
That's absurd....you ever see Janis Joplin? or Sandy Denny? beauty does not come from the fact they can make the things we love but that they can do it.
Harrymtsally, I know what you mean, I could happily spend my life hearing this music. Kate is possibly the best of the twentieth century. I listen to other music, but I always come back to her.
Kate Bush is who Tori Amos nervously pretends to be when she hopes no one remembers or has been exposed to the indomitable greatness that is Kate Bush. Discerning music lovers know.
@lovellespice hahahaha thats who she listens to! oh words cant explain the look of "i told you so" on my face when i read your reply! whoohoo am i going to have fun telling my sister that you compared her beloved marina to kate bush!
Earlier this year, when I was training for a mt bike race, this song would keep running through my head on the 14 mile climb up Tolman Creek Road up to Mt. Ashland. When one is surrounded by only pine trees and nature, one can fully realize the incredible talent that this women possesses...No I did not win!
ooooooh the beginning, the sound of whales, send chills down my spine. wauw wauw wauw. and the song, the sound of her voice, the whole thing together makes it so special, wonderful listening to! wauw.

@terrafirma91 I'd say Jazz mixed with Pink Floyd like experimental rock mixed with piano mixed with rock (maybe even a touch of reggae?) and a crystal clear voice. Dave Gilmour must sometimes wonder what Pink Floyd would have been like with Kate Bush in the band. I'm not convinced that Pink Floyd managed much of this maturity until The Division Bell.
I just adore this song...the whole album is amazing. I grew up listening to it. For a woman of a young age to have such insight...she fought like hell with EMI to have Wuthering Heights released at all.
@Singingjacobus I would absolutely agree, and all I would add, is I think every bone in her body is creative, and I think her music will be played by someone as long as there is a medium via which to create sound, just astounding, and every time I think I have heard every great track she has made I hear yet another. Iconic stuff in every sense.
@Singingjacobus Well said. In fact, it was inevitable that Kate would be beautiful physically, considering the enchanting beauty that comes from inside of her. Her songs emanate from an eternal source of the Feminine that is instantly recognizable on a soul level. That powerful force has incarnated as Kate and will always exist, and I mean this most sincerely.
@jeffteach Yes, Yes , Yes ! You have expressed perfectly the essence of this mystical, magical woman and her music in a way that I have been struggling to articulate for more than 30 years, Thank you.
Hey if anyone is on for a laugh check out Kris Shreds 'version' of Wuthering Heights, another Kate Bush classic.
The guy is an ego maniac in addition to a pitiful singer, but the funniest thing is that if you make a comment stating that you dont like what he has done with the song he deletes your comments and blocks you from making any more comments.
He cant even get the lyrics right and sings through his nasal cavity. Check it out and have a good laugh! Its pitiful and painful but funny!
@vitalii32.For me "The Kick Inside" ranks fourth, after "Never For Ever" that ranks third,"Hounds Of Love" and the perfect "The Dreaming",the best album of all time.
Kate had to be a powerful influence and inspiration for people like Laurie Anderson, Bjork, Fiona Apple, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys and all other independant young women that had big ideas, inner-strength and the confidence to take a chance and go it alone.
You shittin' me? Bjork is wicked good, dude. Go to American Idol for show-pony singers. You can't teach funk & soul. I'm giving you a 1/10 for that lame comment. Fail.
PS Good call on Tori. Fail to me for forgetting to mention her.
You are right - but in the song she seems to drop the 'd' - so it sounds to me like brewing. However it was a classic song - and album. I bought 'The Kick Inside' when it first came out in '78. I was working for the National Coal Board at the time .....
she wrote lots of her songs as a teenager. she wrote man with the child in his eyes at 13 so i think she probarbly wrote the rest of the album at the same age.

I Don't think she was as good as that bird in Clannad & I Don't think she was as good as Bob Dylan but she was ok & did some nice songs.
