I saw journey with augieri and steve was just the same like 2001- i saw them in NJ 2005 and steve sounded a million times better -- gotta give AP a chance- its not the singer and then the band- its the band- im a drummer- playing to their music for 10 years- the sound never changed!

This was his FIRST PERFORMANCE with Journey and for that matter his first ever performance in front of a large audience filled with Journey fans with high expectations. This concert was not his best performance but to the haters: Imagine how nerve wracking that was for him! I Have seen Journey with Perry in 83 in Houston and with Arnel in 2007 and 2009.Arnel is not Perry but he is better in many ways he can dance and sing and his falsetes are way better .Perry had a clearer voice.He was awesome also but this is the new Journey and it is Bad ass.Just face the facts.you shouldn't even give your opinion unless you have seen both in concert.Amen
So much complaining about Arnel and how he "sucks" but the truth is, he doesn't suck, Arnel is amazing at what he does. No, this singer doesn't have the same power in his voice. he does too much yelling and no power singing. Journey should stop trying to replicate Steve Perry and either work with him again or find someone with their own sound.
If we weren't talking about Journey and a fellow (Arnel) who tries to fill Steve Perry's shoes, everyone would say Arnel is awesome. I think Arnel has done a terrific job, even more considering he's being compared continuosly with Steve Perry, but let's face it: Arnel Pineda IS NOT Steve Perry, and he's doing pretty much his best to give us Journey fans what we want to hear. Maybe someday Steve Perry and Journey reconcile and play together, but until then, just give him a break.
Its a mixture of good music, good voice, a popular band, miracle and youtube. Not all singers, get to be this popular and blessed. Not all singers need a vocal couch to attain popularity. Some are really born singers. Its natural to them.

Not to criticise Steve's fan but i do really think Arnel did a good job. If Steve still in the band, i would guess that they have to lower the pitch in order to sing this song again as I don't really think Steve are able to sing like what he does 20 years ago. But with Arnel in the journey, the band are able to sang it at the level they did 20 years ago. Same pitch as 1983.
Lets face it guys that SP isnt coming back. Too many issues life wise and in-band wise. Politics always plays some dirty work amongst band members. However, I am happy for Arnel and for this chance he has to show us that anyone can go from rags to riches with something as simple as YouTube. I'm a huge Survivor fan as well, and I'd be glad if Pineda was there instead of that McAuley, who doesn't sound as good as Jamison or Perry...

Pineda never claimed he's better than Steve Perry. In fact, he said that Steve is one of his favorite singers. Journey still exists because fans love their songs. Pineda is part of the band because he can sing. As long as the song sounds good, who cares. Journey rocks!

thanks for this.no matter what others say..Arnel and the new Journey are the winners here, mostly in their bank accounts, successful concerts and platinum album..and also the new millions of fans that enjoyed their concerts. even old SP fans are moving on and are enjoying Arnels performance.Arnel keeps getting better and more popular and more humble (thanks for putting up charity for poor children)..Arnels other concerts without the Journey are successful.looking forward to their new album 2011

I Have seen Journey with Perry in 83 in Houston and with Arnel in 2007 and 2009.Arnel is not Perry but he is better in many ways he can dance and sing and his falsetes are way better .Perry had a clearer voice.He was awesome also but this is the new Journey and it is Bad ass.Just face the facts.you shouldn't even give your opinion unless you have seen both in concert.Amen

So much complaining about Arnel and how he "sucks" but the truth is, he doesn't suck, Arnel is amazing at what he does. If you don't know, Journey picked Arnel as a lead singer because they knew how well he could sing their stuff. And another thing, don't think about the differences between Steve and Arnel, but think about what Arnel did for Journey, for the other 4 guys on this stage. He gave them a chance to relive their stage days. And what you see on your screen, is exactly that.

No, this singer doesn't have the same power in his voice. he does too much yelling and no power singing. Journey should stop trying to replicate Steve Perry and either work with him again or find someone with their own sound.

I think Steve Perry made Journey, but he is gone and so is his voice.
Arnel, brings back an energy that Journey has been missing, His vocals just like Perry's which is what makes the songs.
As for needing to be mature? WTF... they need the energy of a younger singer to keep the Journey sound, and also when on stage you need a clown!!!

If we weren't talking about Journey and a fellow (Arnel) who tries to fill Steve Perry's shoes, everyone would say Arnel is awesome. I think Arnel has done a terrific job, even more considering he's being compared continuosly with Steve Perry, but let's face it: Arnel Pineda IS NOT Steve Perry, and he's doing pretty much his best to give us Journey fans what we want to hear. Maybe someday Steve Perry and Journey reconcile and play together, but until then, just give him a break.

Its a mixture of good music, good voice, a popular band, miracle and youtube. Not all singers, get to be this popular and blessed. Not all singers need a vocal couch to attain popularity. Some are really born singers. Its natural to them.

steve can still hit the notes. he'll be able to sing until the day he dies. arnel pineda is an embarassment to journey. he can't hit ANY of the notes and can only sing a few of the songs decently. journey needs to get rid of him and drive steve crazy until he comes back.

Not to criticise Steve's fan but i do really think Arnel did a good job. If Steve still in the band, i would guess that they have to lower the pitch in order to sing this song again as I don't really think Steve are able to sing like what he does 20 years ago. But with Arnel in the journey, the band are able to sang it at the level they did 20 years ago. Same pitch as 1983.

Lets face it guys that SP isnt coming back. Too many issues life wise and in-band wise. Politics always plays some dirty work amongst band members. However, I am happy for Arnel and for this chance he has to show us that anyone can go from rags to riches with something as simple as YouTube. He has amazing talent and bless him that he goes all out for everyone who expects him to be just like SP. He goes beyond that limit IMO. For all you haters just listen to your albums and leave us be.

and RickiKeith, Arnel Pineda has been singing like this for more than half his life, from way back in the 80's singing rock covers in HongKong clubs. Arnel is 40years old yet has enough power in his lungs and energy in his performances to beat any young upstarting rockstar wanna be. no way you can compare that pitiful karaoke session you just posted on your profile to any of Arnel's performances even back in his Hong Kong days.

I am a human being devoid of color, who judges people by what they do for others. Arnel does so much for the people of the Philippines...especially its impoverished youth. Who really cares that he is one of the best singers on the planet. He helps people who really need it! RickiKeith...You are not one of the best singers on the planet. The man isn't Steve, but he kicks ass. After all, if the people who were with Steve in the beginning thought this guy was the one, then he's the one. He's not Steve, but he's good. VERY good.
(Fun fact: When they e-mailed him at first, he thought it was a hoax until the friend of his who gave them his contact info persuaded him otherwise.)

@comedaman1234 I agree Comedaman, he's no Steve, but he's the next best thing, the Evolution if you will. People are looking for Steve to come back, but fail to understand that he no longer has that legendary range anymore.
I believe this was Arnel's 2nd live appearance? anyone? He's gotten WAY better since. His confidence is growing, he needed to get comfortable with the band and it's showing now. His story is inspiring and I'm rooting for him to be a Great one.

he is just not used to this many people watching him. give him a break. nobody can be exactly like steve perry, but the y can be close, like arnel is. he is the closest you can get to steve perry. maybe after a few more concerts, he is act more mature on stage, he just has to get used to it first.
