I never bothered to cut my breaks up like that, I had the sample offset values memorised for all the popular breaks. I was using impulse tracker

In 1991 we loaded a ( very small 8-bit) sample , and there you had your instrument.

Trackers have come a bit further it seems. : p

You can cut up samples with almost any program. The beauty of tracking, is that you can easily code in the sample offset instead of cutting (ie. in an XM mod the code would be 9## where ## depends of the point of the offset)

The amen is in it's prime now - 10-15 years ago they had all those other samples like the skullsnaps-it's a new day, funky drummer, think about it, hotpants... Mostly stuff that is not used that much now, cause all of the breaks producers use the amen (layered with a lot of shit mostly). Learn your stuff first...
