JOHN!!!! you are my absolute inspiration on the saxophone. you have restored my faith in ALL modern jazz players!!! i wish i could find more videos of you playing stuff like this, its so refreshing to hear such a powerful alto tone again!!!! keep blowing man, hope you can come to Perth WA one day so i can hear you play in person!!!!
@CTravaglini I REALLY APPRECIATE IT! WOW! Thank you for such a great compliment! I would love to come to Perth to play! Until then, I gotta keep practicing, so MAYBE one day I'll be more satisfied with my own playing! : / Take care, and hopefully we'll meet in the near future! John
Amazing playing!! John Michalak is an absolutly freak on the sax love his playing. I just discovered his sound through the CE winds demos, I've just bought a tenor all because of his great playing on the sax (he should ask the guys for comission kkkk) . Just curious to find out what mouthpiece he uses on alto seems to be a hard rubber but I'm not sure could you find out for me please?? More videos please!!
@latinqueenslander MANY MANY THANKS!! I appreciate such an amazing compliment!! I hope you're enjoying your CE tenor! On alto, I use the Claude Lakey Jazz 7*3. I sometimes use a Vandoren Jumbo Java A55. On THIS video, however, I was using a Brilhart LevelAir #4, with a Rico Jazz Select #3. Funny enough, when I saw Mr Sanborn after this concert, I showed him the mouthpiece and said "do you remember this?", to which he responded "thanks!" and stuck it in his pocket: ) Thanks again, and take care!
By the way, if you're going to leave ratings, please leave a comment. I already made disclaimers. I was very uncomfortable, since my monitor sound was twice that of the band mix, the house engineer was incompetent, and I had never played that tune on alto-hence the inability to think fast about some the of the chords-oops! Not my best, not my worst. Please leave a comment, and let me know who you are. I like to discover better players! PS-Nobody like talentless critics who have nothing to offer
Yes, I know the sound and video quality aren't that great...and yes, I was a little spastic on the solo. I guess that's why it's good to watch yourself on video...it's a learning experience!
