People who are defending Madoff saying that his Ponzi scheme only stole from the rich and greedy need to do some research. Madoff claimed to have a "black box" method that would allow him to predict the rise and fall of the stock market, resulting in years of claimed profit with no loss. However, the profit claimed was small compared to other possible investments. Most people who invested their money with him were looking for a safe, consistent investment for retirement money or college funds.
