Just ask my uncle if this is true. He has a BA in Public Relations and Mass Comm. and desperately needed a job because he had a baby on the way. So he looked for one, and couldn't nail one down. He eventually settled to take a job polishing floors in a hospital to pay for a trip to Votech to become an X-ray tech.
Why did he need to go to Votech if he had a degree, and why did he need to polish floors? Don't you get a great job with a degree?
@MacPr0xnxx0 A dumbed down bachelor of arts degree? No thanks. I'll just use my library card and get the same education for free. I would just finish my bachelor of science degree in engineering if I really wanted to go to college.
@DontGoToCollege Im getting My BA in Political science and a minor in International developmental studies from a Private University in san diego Point Loma and I've already starting networking and secured connections i can go into government start my own business or go work for a company my point is unlimited possibilities so just because you don't have the determination to go out and get a REAL education don't sit here and preach to people get a real job.
If you are the ones leaving comments about how college does work,I can only say I really hope it does work out for you. I wouldn't want you to end up like how I did. I really hope you find a successful career somewhere. I hope you earn the potential you expect.
College is a lie. It has ruined my life. I think back to all the things I could have done and now am regretting the choice I made. I hope some college students will re-think what major they chose and other options that are out there. to add more fuel to the fire. At one of my jobs I met people who were released from prison for various crimes and are doing so much better than me. I've met some who haven't even earned a GED and are making more money than I.
If you ask why didn't I try to find work in my field, well I did. I was supposed to start working but by the time I was going to be interviewed the companies (all the companies I applied for) changed their qualifications and I then became disqualified. What's even worse is that their recruiter encouraged me to keep pursuing my degree and said that I would be for sure hired. Their HR rep said the same thing. I was believing a lie from the University and from the places I wanted to work at.
It really hurts to know how stupid I was going to college. I wasted so much time and effort obtaining something that has actually ruined my life. 9 years later and I'm now unemployed. I've had 5 jobs in that time. I've been laid off many times. Most of the people the companies kept did not have any qualifications except that they all never went to college. All of my friends without degrees have homes, families, and jobs that pay them well.
The worst degrees are engineering, technology and science type of degrees.
People, look at what degrees your university's top leaders (president, dean, etc) have, what degrees media anchors, journalists, members of congress have: communication, journalism, theatre, law degrees. How many have a degree in science? Zero. Read between the lines, people. Those who make millions and do live the American Dream all have liberal art degrees. Engineers live in their cars.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Geography from Worcester State College, I originally wanted to work in the environmental field. I couldn't find a job for 6 years, so I decided to go to a trade school for HVAC/R for $18,000 for 18 months. The entry level pay is actually a lot more that what I earned with my Bachelor's Degree. For those of you looking for a career change trade or technical schools are the way to go.
When someone has a Master's degree in 14th Century Literature and working at Denny's, I am tempted to say "Wow! You are extremely stupid! Not only did the job market tell you to go to hell after you got a bachelor's degree but you borrowed & agreed to pay thousands of dollars more than what your degrees were worth so you could stare at two expensive pieces of paper on your wall that wouldn't provide many calories if you ate them, not much warmth if you burnt them & you wouldn't wear them."
A college degree will NOT guarantee you a job. A college is a means by which to obtain a comprehensive education in an academic field of interest. If you do not wish to become an academic, then do not attend college. Academia is not for everyone, so decide what you want in life and make your peace with it.
Telling people "not to go to college" is no different than telling people to become an academic. Different strokes for different folks. Do what YOU need to do.
Sure, you could take the easy way out and go to a community college to be a physical therapist "assistant" and make average pay. Or you could get a PHD and be an actual physical therapist with high pay. Derrrrrrr. Higher degrees=better jobs. This applies to almost EVERY single field out there.
There's obviously stupid majors to avoid such as international studies and political science.
@littlenickyn not true. higher degree doesnt always equal higher pay, for examplem If you have a 4 year business degree and decide to get your masters it won't do much for you. Actually the most successful business people are people who didn't even attend college or were drop-outs. Unless you going for health/medicine, a hard science/math, teaching and possibly law I on't even see purpose of getting a master or PHD...
Well, the only reason I am attending Jr. College is to transfer to a Senior college for BSW then to Grad School for MSW. In NYC if you want to become a teacher, there is a program that will allow you to teach with your bachelors so long as you make an agreement to obtain your degree for teaching. It's some program that seems to work for aspiring new teachers plus helps them with jobs.
In my area students in bio sci. from UC Davis go to ARC (a community college) to take several biotechnology courses because that would make them marketable and would allow them to easily get into undergrad research positions. A college grad with no research or internships gets a pat on the back but not always a job.
our parents were dumped down sheeple.thats why they force college up our asses and not trade schools.you dont learn how to drive a car by sitting in a boring hot class listening to an overpaid asshole called a lecturer, you get nto the car and learn how to drive it
That's rich. He says this woman should meet a physical therapist before going back to a junior college to study in such a program. However, his research consists of taking one newspaper or magazine article and discussing it in often halting speech. Maybe the host should do some research before judging other people's valid educational choices.
i think you would like my technical college. Interactive college of technology is a 2 year school that is run by a dean who has a degree handed to him by the school so he is running an academic institution with nothing more than an associates he did not even earn.
The problem with College Education and employment is that it works by the same rules that apply to the entire economy in the USA : Supply and Demand. In the 80's and part of the 90's the supply of College Degrees was low enough that people could get more jobs.
Now with so many College diplomas in plaza... figure it out.
Now that the students are bankrupt, the U.S. is bankrupt, and the currency is collapsing or so what they said , I wonder what move is sound. I saw a student video saying he is going to declare bankruptcy because he cannot pay back his credit card debt.
This video is completely true. If they took away Sallie Mae students would lost easy funding, so they would double think the lies they are feed. Student body decreases, causing colleges to give market needed majors. I'm trying to go back to school, but just got the news that I'm deploying to Afghanistan. When I get back I'll get my second degree, this time in engineering and math. I'm not holding my breath that my experience abroad will be as valuable as my (worthless) BA.
What spelling errors are you referring to? My first degree as a double major in political science and sociology. I had a marketing job before joining the guard, but in today's economy of 10% unemployment its of little help. The future belongs to producers.
The reality is that people with Masters (I have one myself) are often considered "overqualified". I've heard that many are going to jr colleges to get AA's because they are more marketable. I've considered changing careers myself because my degree is pretty much worthless.
well nothing wrong with a master but i hope you like waiting around for work or are willing to teach cause get a masters or being a expert in a your field is well overrated in the long run unless you are rich an training other
I don't understand all you said, but to answer your question (I think) I hoped to teach in college but never happened. If I could do it again I'd never go to college. I would have gotten a skill like plumbing or electrician. Instead I have a masters, experience, skills, and no job.
@ilikemuffins7 go fuck yourself since that's all you can do. While you are fucking yourself go learn proper English since people hate retards like you.
@ilikemuffins7 go fuck yourself since that's all you can do. While you are fucking yourself go learn proper English since people hate retards like you.
That is funny, I have a GED and I never had a problem finding a job until the economy crashed. I went to a private trade school NIT now Wyotech and all it did was put me in debt. I've been worse off since. I was much better off when I was a proud HS dropout getting real world experience. If you want to get into some kind of trade, look around, find an apprenticeship program, join a union, go to a community college, and don't discount your local Adult School.
It can get you into a Masters program that actually has worth like social work. Once you have your MSW, you can get a decent job. (After internship, of course.)
I saw you have some videos on Sallie Mae. Could you make one about consolidating debt? You can consolidate your debt from Sallie Mae to a Direct Gov't loan. This can be helpful to escape Sallie Mae and possibly get more affordable payment plans.
How do we get a job, when most good jobs require a bacehlors degree ! Its so useless, we need technical education not this liberal arts bullshit.

It is all about doing your own research. Isn't that what "college" is supposed to teach you? I applaud these videos for telling it like it is.
FaithfulAndTrue1 2 years ago 4
@FaithfulAndTrue1 These videos do not tell it like it is.
They spread disinformation via flawed thinking and reasoning.
College is a personal choice predicated on either getting an education or a credential or both.
To negate that choice by saying that it is a waste of money and time overall is a flat-out lie.
Let's face it not everybody has the brains, discipline or will to get through 4 years of college to obtain a degree.
He shouldn't discourage those who do.
MultiSmartass1 2 years ago
I'm equally impressed with your convictions as well.
FaithfulAndTrue1 2 years ago
Thanks.
Again, my convictions are based on fact.
The job market in this country has virtually mandated that a significant percentage of jobs go to college grads with Bachelor's degree.
Now if DGTC's beef were with employers, I would support him but he blames students and parents for thinking college is the answer and that is wrong.
Iam tired of this right-wing blame the victim mentality when there are millions of people suffering because of this damn economy.
