In the TH-55, OH6, OH58, UH-1 and Cobra, the gauge used to monitor rotor rpm (not "rotor vs torques", bubby) is the "DUAL TACH", so named because it has 2 needles - one each for ROTOR and ENGINE speeds ("N2" in turbines). We usually just call it the "rotor tach". It is NOT -IMO- the "most important" or watched gauge. THAT would be the torque gauge- a separate inst (ref. to panel). Torque usage is the first concern in an AH-1 heavy with gas and ammo at treetop level and/or high density altitude.
When the engine quits or the throttle is rolled-off in an auto, no gauge is needed to tell you that "something has changed". There DOES exist a "triple tachometer". It has 3 needles. Imagine that! One needle each for the rotor and the 2 engines in a TWIN engine helo. I wonder, Ski... what nation or military does primary training in a TWIN turbine??? Seriously, I don't know offhand. But the TH55, Huey, OH58, OH6 and ALL ARMY Cobras are SINGLES and had DUAL tachs not "triples", ya LYIN' JEW.

I happen to still have my ancient, fraying, dusty "TM" (operator's manual) for the UH-1. Funny...Bell Textron and the US Army thought it sooooooo important to impress on us the arrangement of the panel in a "T-config" that they left those words (or any variation thereof!) out of the Operator's Manual. In the TH-55, OH6, OH58, UH-1 and Cobra, the gauge used to monitor rotor rpm (not "rotor vs torques", bubby) is the "DUAL TACH", so named because it has 2 needles - one each for ROTOR and ENGINE speeds ("N2" in turbines). We usually just call it the "rotor tach". It is NOT -IMO- the "most important" or watched gauge. THAT would be the torque gauge- a separate inst (ref. to panel). Torque usage is the first concern in an AH-1 heavy with gas and ammo at treetop level and/or high density altitude.

When the engine quits or the throttle is rolled-off in an auto, no gauge is needed to tell you that "something has changed". There DOES exist a "triple tachometer". It has 3 needles. Imagine that! One needle each for the rotor and the 2 engines in a TWIN engine helo. I wonder, Ski... what nation or military does primary training in a TWIN turbine??? Seriously, I don't know offhand. But the TH55, Huey, OH58, OH6 and ALL ARMY Cobras are SINGLES and had DUAL tachs not "triples", ya LYIN' JEW.

At "uscockpits" you can see the panels of the UH-1H (initial trainer) and the front and back cockpit panels of the AH-1F, my career aircraft. I'll give you (how much time?) to explain to the kids who you've misled why NEITHER aircraft has the "triple" instrument you claim it "MUST have". There's a very simple "technical" reason FOR this.
