CR-900H (D3 SB-900) is a recent addition to the range, it was not available 12 months ago. By the way the Coco shatters if dropped, I am now on my second. I have been told rightly or wrongly, the Rayflash is made of a polycarbonate derivative, if true, then it is much tougher than the Coco. The results are nothing to write home about. Better results are achieved with a pair of Speedlights or similar on a flash bracket. Moral, spend the money on a fill light
blah blah blah copyright.. if conceited companies are going to charge ridiculous prices for extremely simple tech, then they are going to have their shit stolen. if they sold their products at a reasonable price, cheaper knock-offs wouldn't be a problem.
RayFlash required a considerable amount of time, finances, development and finally tooling costs to arrive at the final product.
Coco have selected the most profitable out of the range RayFlash Rings and copied them. No Coco to fit a Nikon D3 or their derivatives in the Coco range, just those that will provide the biggest return for the least outlay, that is why they are cheaper.
The final line is without RayFlash there would be no Coco.
Reverse engineering both stifles progress and eventually drives up costs to the buying public. The would be innovator who spends a considerable amount of time and finances in developing their idea, is deterred from further development if copying is deemed acceptable. If they decide to develop their product further they are compelled to take out a water tight patent to protect their investment, the costs of protecting their investment are therefore passed onto the consumer. I just got mine and did the test shots last night, its really awesome although it doesn't fit my Lumapro flash, a bungie cord or rubber band will hold it in place I think. It does the job for extremely cheap price.
where did you purchase your coco ring flash? i want to get one without the "coco" logo in front just like the one you have in the video. can you provide links and the process you went through. (especially if you bought through amazon, where there are multiple sellers.)

"Power Mode set at 2"? Do you mean Flash exposure compensation +2? -2? It's not really clear what you mean.

Thanks for posting this, it's quite helpful.
I am wondering about your comment that you preferred the round shape of the CoCo over the teardrop shape of the "other" unit.
I was under the impression that the teardrop shape was to allow the AF assist beam and external metering sensor to be functional.
Do you think this would be a useful feature of the teardrop shape?
