He was born in Canada, spent his childhood here and his bro plays for Canada. Unless you know something I don't, you can't say Canada didn't want him - they just couldn't offer a high enough level of play at youth level. But instead of giving up on his country, de Guzman could have followed his bro and used his talent to try and improve Canadian soccer.
I know all about the Canadian system, and believe me, its Canada that let him down. There are plenty of extremely talented young players here, but most of them get no chance because they need to be "recommended" by a provincial coach and dumb shit like that to go anywhere. I know a bunch of players that could easily make team Canada, but believe it or not they got their shot in Brasil first as they were scouted in Canada by a Brasilian club (i was one of them).
Ran out of space, but believe it or not a Brasilian 3rd division club scouts better in Canada than any Canadian team. I also find it laughable that Hargreaves is considered a traitor as he did try out for team Canada when he was younger and was turned down. If Hargreaves wasn't determined to get past that he wouldn't have gone anywhere. Canada needs to smarten up and learn how to develop youth talent like only the dutch can. :P

Canadian team isnt the better choice for him, its the better choice for canada. He isnt a traitor or anything because he has no reason to play for us, he had to move to the netherlands when he was 12 if he wanted to go anywhere because canada didnt want him...plus he's been training with the national team for a while now and he's in their good books, so why stop now? If you ask me, its soccer canada making all the stupid mistakes.

ch405m4r1n3, no doubt Soccer Canada is one of the most inept sporting associations in the world but imo de Guzman made the wrong choice. He was born in Canada, spent his childhood here and his bro plays for Canada. Unless you know something I don't, you can't say Canada didn't want him - they just couldn't offer a high enough level of play at youth level. But instead of giving up on his country, de Guzman could have followed his bro and used his talent to try and improve Canadian soccer.

I know all about the Canadian system, and believe me, its Canada that let him down. There are plenty of extremely talented young players here, but most of them get no chance because they need to be "recommended" by a provincial coach and dumb shit like that to go anywhere. I know a bunch of players that could easily make team Canada, but believe it or not they got their shot in Brasil first as they were scouted in Canada by a Brasilian club (i was one of them).

Ran out of space, but believe it or not a Brasilian 3rd division club scouts better in Canada than any Canadian team. I also find it laughable that Hargreaves is considered a traitor as he did try out for team Canada when he was younger and was turned down. If Hargreaves wasn't determined to get past that he wouldn't have gone anywhere. Canada needs to smarten up and learn how to develop youth talent like only the dutch can. :P

You make excellent points. I didn`t know that players had to be recommended. It`s just extremely frustrating as a fan of Canadian soccer to see talented players like de Guzman and Hargreaves play for other countries. You`d think that seeing as de Guzman`s older bro plays for Canada and his dad appears to have some influence in Canadian soccer, he`d have no problem getting recced. Problem is really the CSA, but as a fan I wish players like him would stay and improve soccer in Canada.

Join Arsenal please. Would be a great signing and would cost us less than £15m for a player who plays in a position that Arsenal are in need of. Flamini and Gilberto left and Lassana Diarra would of now been playing first team football if he had waited. However De Guzman would be an amazing signing, and would add a bit of depth and strength to the team.

I think he is coming to Arsenal, and I wouldn't mind him at all. We lost alot of class central midfielders. I think he would be a great replacement of Flamini. I hoped that we bought Xavi Alonso, but De Guzman will do just fine :)

I'm not too sure what am i seeking in watching his vid, but i believe he is supposed to be a holding midfielder? Then the vid should highlight more on his technical abilities, positional play and breaking down opponents fluency instead of just goals.
Everyone looks good on YouTube compilation, but fact is it's not the whole picture. Some are just inconsistant, some other rare moments of brilliance while others perhaps are really just that good.
