  • People still live in Nagasaki and Hiroshema, the effect of nukes is over-stated as the effect of fire bombs is under-stated. I'd prefer to use a nuke to end a war. You always have to ask if it's worth the risk - but don't overstate the risk of one weapon type. We won WW2 with nukes better than with troops.I'm against other forms of war more than nukes. Obliterating nukes = more soldiers needing to get shot. I think if nuking Kabul would let us change their culture, it'd be worth it.

  • Nukes are a good at limiting wars. You don't need to give as any soldiers PTSD to defend the nation with them or use as much money. I'd prefer offensive nucular weapons than sending 1 soldier out. It WOULDN'T be a nuclear Armageddon as no one would fire back. Nuclear armed states wouldn't fight each other - because others can shoot back - but firing at non nuke states is fine IMO

I'm surprised I have so many conservative friends considering how much politics I talk.

  • They could nuke us in return anyway. It's more of a risk to have more nuclear armed nations who could decide to nuke us. Not everything is reciprocal. bad things can happen even to good people. Not nuking others and letting them get nukes is making one more player who could nuke back. Nuking countries that can't fight back would not lead to us being nuked as their allies with nukes wouldn't risk it. It's no worse than fire-bombing a city for a day - as Hiroshima wasn't worse Tokyo fire bombing

  • The only country ever to use nuclear weapons, now wants to rid the whole world of nuclear weapons while the bombs they dropped 60 years ago are still killing people today...

Hypocrisy is just that, hypocrisy. It matters not that it dresses in tailored suits and talks real pretty.

  • you're right. let's keep them.

  • Wow.

  • I'd agree that, in a perfect world, it would be best to just launch all of that shit into the sun and be rid of it forever. Unfortunately, the moment The Trinity Test was performed, they were cemented as a permanent part of our world. The technology exists. It's too late. Even if we got rid of them all (which will never happen, everyone would keep their secret stash for fear of everyone else's secret stash) someone else would just build them again. The only chance for disarmament is time travel.

  • @Cerebrocaust then they'll just build a weapon just as bad or woser then it wouldnt stop that shit anyway
