  • Communists would dislike this, but Americans would love this.

  • There are far too many inaccuracies in this post to consider it legitimate. Sorry dude and nice try BUT you really need to do your homework. The Feb.24th game was not an elimination game but a playoff round game. The Americans would've played Finland regardless of the outcome of the Soviet game. Nonetheless, one of the greatest moments in sports' history and the GREATEST upset of all time.

  • @plusEV ya it was a stupid system...they played Finland on the Sunday and won, and Finland didn't even get a medal... weird system.....on another note, it was weird to see Romania and Norway in the Olympic hockey pool.

  • 7 people are from russia

  • @captintrn Kinda Correct! And Russia's past friends.

  • Awesome game

  • Words cannot describe how beautiful this moment was.

  • This is a Fabulous Clip....God Bless 2 All........Mike

  • great vid the guy that is telling you how to spell has something shuved up his vagina dont worry about it awesome vid what grade did you get lol

  • that wasnt the first time they used college players. NHL players werent even allowed in the olympics until years after 1980

  • @jayblob716 the dude should get his facts right!!

  • I still get chills watching this video

  • me too. ive probably watched it 50 times too

  • U.S.A!!!!

  • Crosby>Ovechkin Canada will win gold

  • hahahahahhahahahhaha im niether candian or russian, but the fact that you say crosby is better is sickening

  • ok but u got lucky and also think about now russia 3 titles in a row and they r gonna win olympic gold best team Ovechkin and the other guys there wick point is the goalie and thats it

  • Russia better though

  • @Boggy6963

NOT on THAT day and NOT at THAT time- and THAT day and THAT time were all that mattered!!!!!!!!

  • what appen ont the iracle on ice ?

  • Dude, way too much text. Either minimize it or make the video longer.

  • i couldnt see the puck go in the net :(

  • this wasn't the first time the us used college students instead of pros. in fact pros weren't allowed to play in the olympics until years after the '80 olympics.

  • THAt was awesome

GO USA USA USA USA USA USA Usa

  • wow watching that video just sends chills down my spine every time I watch it USA BABY what a awesome game

  • its funny how no one cares about winning the gold. Beating the soviets is all that matters

  • That in itself is gold...

  • and i also think this song was almost made for this movie these guys i mean its almost too perfect of a song for this event if your looking back at it all, thany you Aerosmith as well

  • amazing! thats all i can say

  • This game is a prime example of why sports is the greatest entertainment known to man.

Yeah, movies are great, but cant we all pretty much tell the ending of most of them before we even sit down?

On any given night, a sporting event can be historic, like this game, and anything can happen.

This specific game was more than sports, it was theatre, and unbelievably inspirational. Everytime I see Brooks yell & raise his fist after the 3rd goal, I get goosebumps.

    Ty for posting!

  • LightningJanitorial you couldn't have expressed my thoughts much better than you did. Herb Brooks believed that this country should be the best at everything, including hockey.

The way the world is today I don't think this kind of moment is possible in our country any longer.

Herb Brooks is/was a Great American and created the single greatest sports moment in our nations history.

Coaches out there, make sure your players skate lots of Herbies. USA, USA

  • dusty dons!!!

  • i loved this game, and the movie they made... but this was not the 1st time the soviets were defeated.... Canada had beaten them in the 72 Summit Series

  • I still get goose bumps when I watch anything to do with those guys........ That wasn't just a hockey game, it revived America.

  • This is one of those "where were you when?" moments; I didn't even like hockey--but I was glued to the set during this game. The gold metal game the next day was Appointment TV for me.

  • not the first time using college players. I thought Buzz Schneider was on the '76 team and he was in his 3rd year at Minnesota.

  • you guys should watch the video.. not bitch

  • it should be noted that the goal by Johnson at the end of the 1st chased Tretiak(regarded as the best goalie not in the NHL) out of the hockey game.

But yeah this was not the 1st time the US used amatuers.

The Olypic games in Vancouver will be the last time NHL palyers will be used in olympic competion.

  • can't wait for the college kids back in the olympics instead of the over paid ones, should be awaesome

  • tretiak was considered to be the greatest goalie in the world at the time..

  • Uhm...this wasn't the first time we used non NHL player. The USA did not use NHL players in the Olympics until 1998.

As for the medal round system, the top two teams from each pool played the top two teams from the other pool. Points scored in the round robin carried over to the medal round except that points scored against teams not advancing were dropped. It was not elimination like it is now, it was simply another round robin.

  • R.I.P Herb Brooks

  • I think you guys are just a bit confused that wasnt a round robin finland and sweden played with finland winning and then ussr and usa played with usa winning which leaves usa and finland playing for the gold and silver and the ussr and sweden playing for bronze

  • it wasnt a semi final game, the USA was going to play Finland at 11 AM SUnday morning no matter what. This was a medal round which means it was round robin AND the game could have ended in a 3-3 tie if Eruzione hadn't scored. Remember, the Soviets won Silver that year

  • this was not a medal round....

  • yes it was, the USA carried over their tie from Sweeden so that gave them 1 point, and the soviets carried over their 2 points from a win from finland. The Olympics back then didn't have overtime for hockey, so they didn't have a tournament like we think of it. They started out with round robin games in a pool, then round robin games in a medal round. If you watch the 3rd pd when the USA has the lead, they explain everything in graphics. Thats how the soviets won silver this year

  • 10 to 3 it was

  • no it wasnt

  • Greatest sports moment in history.

  • I love Al Michaels! Do you believe in miracles. YES! LOL. Best Sports moment eve for US.!!!

  • THE GREATEST SPORTS MOMENT EVER!!!!!

  • @PENS68 I'm not sure I'd agree with that. Was it "one" of the greatest? Yes, unless you played hockey for the old Soviet Union. However, I can think of many others, including the 2004 ALCS, when the Boston Red Sox pulled off the greatest comeback in sports history to beat the Yankees after trailing 3 games to none!

  • @DeedsResearcher only in Boston people would think that, you could say Denver nuggets beating the Supersonics years ago 1 vs 8 seed was bigger. But this was college kidsvs pro's so boston vs ny is not even great is just good thats all

  • @golffreak68 Not sure I'd agree with you on this one. Until the 2004 ALCs, no major league baseball team had EVER come back from trailing 3-0 to win a playoff series. EVER! Of course, there are those who might say the Yankees choked (I would not disagree!) However, as a Red Sox fan, I say it was the greatest COMEBACK of all time, a testimony to a team that ran and hit, and NEVER quit.

  • @DeedsResearcher again your talkin as a sox's fan anyone of any team could say that and find a game or series of that nature. But this was college kids vs pros big difference.I could myself say about the Packers winning the superbowl last year was when they had 15 players on ir.The best record in nfl history for a team with that many players on ir was 5-11 pack went 10-6 and have a ring so anyone can find something but your sox not even close to this

  • @golffreak68 You don't seem to understand. I didn't say Team USA was not a great sports moment. It sure was! But to say "Best EVER"? The Red Sox comeback in the 2004 ALCS, however, was undoubtedly the greatest COMEBACK ever. They literally came back from their coffins in that series. But since you're a young man, I don't really expect you to understand all of this. (lol)

Heck, there are even some people who think golf is athletics! You can't get much more wrong than that! lol

  • @DeedsResearcher i totally disagree any team can beat someone in baseball 4 games in a row not much of accomplishment, i even told that too big Pappi when i met him a few times, he has a house on the golf course i play at just outside of Green Bay,his wife is from this area , he played minor league ball in Appleton. Your a funny guy and some people think your right but probably live in boston lol. Its not the greatest far from it if it was maybe it would've been voted otherwise correct?

  • @golffreak68 But the Sox were dead after losing Game 3 by a 19-8 score, and trailing going into the 9th inning of Game 4, with Mariano Rivera on the mound...arguably the greatest closer in our generation. Then, a stolen base, Boston tied it up in the 9th, and Big Papi won it with his titanic homer. But they still trailed 3-1, and after winning game 5, still had to go to NY and win 2 on the road. Tough to do versus a great team. But they did it, in grand fashion! And they swept the World Series!

  • @DeedsResearcher Oh, and all this in spite of the "Curse of the Bambino", where they had not won the World Series in 86 YEARS!!!

  • @DeedsResearcher in your mind, just another world series or alcs again (yawn) if the yans were gr8 they would win that so it was nothin. not even in top 10 my friend so get over it already

  • hells ya!!! great moment!!!

  • nice video and not big on aerosmith but great music for this video

  • very good compilation. A small error at the beginning though. This wasn't the first time the USA used college players in the Olympics. They always used amateur athletes in the Olympics. It wasn't until after these games that the USA changed the rules to let pros play.

  • USA USA USA I bet Russia was stunned when the russian coach pulled Tretjak

  • M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A

    GO USA-USA-USA

  • I NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO

    lets chat OH

  • Fact is.. the "unbeatable" were beaten by an amazing group of young men from the USA.. they had the spirit, the will and arguably one of the best coaches ever.. you have to respect that. Nice video. :)

  • this was awesome!

one of the best hockey inspirations for me!

  • Excellent video

  • Truly amazing. This is what the country is missing nowadays: heart.

We have lost our spirit, our will to fight that makes us so special. That will to stand up and face our challenges got us through the Revolution, it got us through the Civil War, World War II, and even this hockey game.

Hopefully we will rediscover the American soul of the 40s, 80s, and 1700s soon.

  • Hahahahaha

  • it was still truly amazing, after all a group of gollege players vs the big red machine...

  • shut the total and complete FUCK UP you damn fucking russian

  • lol :P

  • wah wah wah wah, the American college boys beat the red fuckin' army, boo hoo, wahhhhh!

  • thats becuause we already were winning 3 to something

so even if they scored once we still would have won

  • People don't typically like to hear someone cry "foul" 29 years after the fact. Perhaps you should point your bitterness toward your own team that forgot how to play defense at the end of their game against the Americans. Had they done so, there would be no need for you to bitch about a bunch of excited kids leaving the bench 3 seconds early to celebrate the biggest upset in hockey history.

  • what is everyone's obsession with putting music into videos that do not need it! Yes, finally, Aerosmith and the greatest sports moment in USA history...exactly what I was looking for.

  • well...you have disney to thank for that one. but yes i agree

  • I saw this miracle in person, 28 years ago in Lake Placid, and still get goosebumps when I see it on video. Greatest sports victory of the century!!

  • lucky!!!!!!!! i wasnt even alive, i do own the USA 1980 olympic hockey dvd set though, thank you ebay!

  • Also the goalies look like people trying to be the boogie man

  • i love it when these kind of things happen

  • I was 8 years old, and they annonced it on the news. My grandma, brother and me jumped around for what seemed like forever. Wow.

  • the miracle wasnt all against the russians against finland 3 goals in final period thats big and against the russians it was captain mike eruzione that scored the winning goal that added to the drama because he was captain

just to tell u i am canadian

  • just so u know the us olympic team always consited of amatuers and college before this it was only after this that professionals started being used

  • still before the olympics russia played the nhl allstars and crushed them like 8-0. these were just kids playing 30 year old men. also the russians were raised from birth to play hockey since they are a commnist country

  • do you know what communism means? the russian players being trained to play hockey since a very young age has nothing to do with the country being communist. :/

  • Great slide show! Thanx!!

  • not over the country idiot. over america

  • same thing dumbass

  • the score was 10-3

    RIP herb brooks

  • "The USSR had not lost an Olympic hockey game since 1960 (20 years)"

I'm pretty sure the USSR lost a game in the 1968 Olympics but still won the gold; they hadn't lost the gold medal since 1960.

  • I was 10 years old when I watched the greatest moment ever in sports history.

Still gives me the chills when I here it.

  • U.S.A!!!!

  • raung they used u.s college kids up to this point in the 1980's

  • awesome vid

  • proud to be an american

  • stopped in 1998

  • my bad

  • hey, you took a love to this team when so many people go after fake professional idiots. I commend you for trying your best to love "real" atheletes that chase real dreams, dreams of legendary status

  • ur right. thanks.

  • great vid

  • WHAT a great video im from Canada and i admire herb brooks for all the work that he do what inspiration

  • for players, the hard training&hardships they go through their lives to be the best of the best, physically&mentally, has nothing to do with politics;it was one team against the other, not USSR against USA;the boys on both sides did their best, played well&no doubt this match is one of the best matches in Olympics history;lets play politics somewhere else, like UN or in media blogs;sportsmen play sports for the love of the sports&simply for better future, earning or for family, not for politics,i think

  • ya but with everythin that was goin on half of it was for that reason

  • these boys proved to all challenges'NEVER GIVE UP TILL THE LAST WHISTLE';miracle happens to players who work harder than their opponents

  • The USSR had not lost an Olympic hockey game since 1960 (20 years), and this was considered by many to be the greatest team to ever wear a hockey uniform. They had crushed the NHL All-Stars 6-0 in New York earlier in the year, and they beat the USA 10-3 in an exhibition game. The Russians had been playing together for at least 8 years, and the USA was a bunch of college kids who had been playing together for 6 months. The miracle is that the USA beat the best team to ever play hockey.

  • help me i dont get it what miracle did happend?

  • LOVE this video!

  • USA USA USA USA USA that is all it have to say

USA USA USA USA USA USA

  • i think USA should still be played with college students

  • sweet moment in sports history!

  • awesome vid

  • Did they really lose 10-2 in the exhibition? Ive heard it was 17-3?

  • 10 to 2

  • it was 10-3 at madison square garden

  • soviets beat the netherlands 17 to 3 earlier that year

  • wow.

    love this video. :].

  • The United States was in a deep funk after the Vietnam debacle and inflation had taken a hold on our economy to the tune of double digit interest rates at the banks. We, as a nation, looked as if we would be in trouble for a good long while. These kids came along at just the right time for the U.S. What really was just an exhibition between two countries turned into an inspirational whirlwind for the U.S. Hope, pride and dignity were restored due to these kids.

  • Even though I'm Canadian these guys are heroes of mine.I still get goose bumps hearing Al Miachaels doing the call on Mike Eruzione's goal.

  • same here :]

  • wow that movie miracle makes it seem like this game with the soviets and the us was the gold medal game, wtf lol

  • ummm im pretty sure these were the winter olympics eh

  • Do you have ANYTHING intelligent to say?

  • calm down you dick just at 1:38 he wrote 1980 summer olympics and as far as i know hockey wasnt a summer olympic sport

  • M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A

    GO USA-USA-USA

  • NHL players weren't allowed at the Olympics until 1998 in Nagano.

  • wasn't first time usa used college kids... WE HAD TO USE THEM for a long time. it was recent they let nhler's in..

  • fuck usa, usa=crap. :)

  • FUCK YOU SolntsaSvet! You're a bitch!!! Maybe the rest of the world should take pride in themselves and their heritage. Work harder and sacrifice a little more and your country could be as great as ours!!! USA=greatest country in the world! Solntsa Svet, France, etc..=coward ass pieces of crap!

  • yep. i would have to agree with CurrDawg on this one :)

  • I'm a Canadian so I prefer Canada over the USA in hockey but I'm glad that those damn Russians didn't win the gold again!

  • Score board. hahaha

  • still pissed off about it eh? loser piece of crap!

  • Great Story, They did use college player before this, The year after this they started using NHL players. WATCH MOVIE!!

  • it's wasn't the year after this that they started using NHL players.....it was a long time after this that NHL players were used for the first time(1998).

    LEARN HISTORY!!

  • and some of your stats are wrong

  • YEAHH BABiix3

  • Fucking USA

  • fuck u

  • well done by the way

  • what's the name of the song?

  • Dream On by Aerosmith

  • Great video!! does anyone have footage of the gold medal game vs. Finland??

  • still crying?? too bad ur soviet professionals got their asses kicked by a bunch of college kids! lol!!!

  • sorry...my two posts were directed at the sniveling piece of crap that said usa=shit.

  • Grazie Eruzione!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what a great moment in history

  • they always used college players for the olympics....this wasnt the only time

  • AMERICA - FUCK YEAH!

  • mericle is a kick ass movie

  • Quiz question: Who is the only American hockey player to ever win the Stanley Cup the same year as winning an Olympic gold medal in hockey?

Kenny Morrow, New York Islanders......Rangers suck.

  • there should be a "don´t", between people - knows.. sorry, got carried away there :P

  • look hos talking.. commi? youre the one who lives in the contry that still have the death-sentence... youre the one who lives in the country were people knows were iraq is.. even though your fellow citizens are taking bullets there.. not talking about you in particular.. fucking world police.. wake up!

  • The reason USSR was so good was because the their team was formed with men that on the paper all were in the army... but didnt do much else than playing hockey all day long.. so thats how became so good

  • its annoying how your a commi bastard

  • I was 11 yrs old and riveted to the screen for these games. At that time, the tension between US and USSR was what made this such a big deal. It was a real statement. That Soviet team was incredible. Ive never experienced a sports moment that even comes close to that feeling.

  • amazingggggg video! gave me chills!

    this song is perfect!

  • Actually, 2 flaws, the game at Madison Square Garden was 10-3, not 10-2

  • I was only born in 1980 (sept) but I wish I was able to see it on tv. I have the game on tape and to this day, when I watch it...I get all nervous and I get chocked up at the end of the game. The Olympics will NEVER be this good again.

  • great clips

  • Great tribute...but one flaw...the USA had NEVER used NHL players prior to 1980. "Professionals" weren't allowed in the Olympics until MANY years later.

  • nice catch...didnt even realize that until now

  • Best 1980 video. To bad only 437 Views :(

  • excellent job man
