  • I recently had a problem like this where BOTH of my cores were maxing out 24/7 and as it turns out google chrome was using 200%!!!... SO i looked around for about 2 hours. found a fix. clear the history............. WOW

  • When did you get it? if you reply i can tell you what happened

  • ADAM B HAD HAIR?!?!

  • OMG!I love the packaging of the powermac g4!Apple should bring the packaging back!Thumbs up if you agree!

  • is he running jaguar on here? I thought the macpro shiped with tiger?

  • that would indeed be tiger, Jaguar was never released to the public with the ability to run on the x86 platform and was way before the mac pros time=]

  • "Kids don't do this at home"

"Yeh do it at a friends house"

BTW Is this guy rich? He looks rich :O he's got some awesome rigs =+

  • My processor doesn't have a roof on it! xD

  • Oh my, DVDS!?

  • When were you a dealer for apple? when did you leave and why? just interested :)

  • I don't know when he started and quit working for Apple. I do know that about 25 years ago, he made a demo video for the then new Apple Lisa.

  • I thought Ubuntu came from Africa too. LOL!

  • I watched you 3 core boat anchors video's awhile a back. Hows the computer running now and could you give a Leopard video review?

  • Wow. That G4 is so new and shiny!

  • thats not a G4 its a mac pro

  • I was referring to the G4 at the end of the video.

  • oh right

  • If the core is out, then the core is out, surely. As far as I know it's a hardware problem, not a software problem...

  • lol i say pos lol.

  • Didn't this have a different name before?

  • thats happening to my pc as we speak lol someone help XD

  • and it was using 1.79gb or Virtual memory

  • POS piece of shit lol

  • "look its sanitized for your protecion"XD XD

  • POS i use that all the time! :)

  • 'does that come from africa or something'

    lmao

  • I had to watch this again. Nice flashback to the year 2000!

  • 3 core mac pro. Thats a pretty unique system!

  • Al, linux and OS X are like cousins - they both come from the same kernal - Darwin Unix. So in essence, you're already partly using linux! WOH - ADAM B 7 YRS AGO!

  • the core is crashed

  • send it to apple!

  • i have a 3.0GHZ system but it's a dual core system with 1 gig of ram. A mac pro should have much more processing power than that.

B.T.W. Love the vids, keep posting...

  • Ubuntu Linux is from FINLAND!

    -Your fan from Finland-

  • Linux is from Finland.

    Ubuntu is from South Africa.

  • I've noticed something, the last part of this video wasn't in 2000. It had to be in 2001 because Mac OS 9.1 wasn't released until January 2001

  • Mr. DiBlasi, I wish you well, and I wish you would put more videos of you getting these Macs (The PowerMac G4). It was neat seeing that vid all the way from 2000! 5/5

  • Mr. DiBlasi, I wish you well, and I wish you would put more videos of you getting these Macs (The PowerMac G4). It was neat seeing that vid all the way from 2000! 5/5

  • when i get a mac im turnign my desktop into a linux machine

  • Hey Al, haha guess what. I'm planning on getting the 7-Core Mac.

  • hehe! the first thing you did with your all new computer was open it and tuch things in it :P i like your videos, keep up the good work! or like we say in Sweden: Fortsätt såhär bra!

  • Thank you very much for the comment. A wave 'hello' to my viewerd in Sweden!

  • Mac OS 9.1 didnt really early versions have 9.2 and later OS X, oh and also what where you suing before your powermac G4

  • powermac g3 probably! WOH, Adam B 7 yrs before we all knew him!

  • i looked on my mac mini kernal task is using 2.20% on my mac mini core duo and 61mb of 1gb ram so that machine there is something really wrong good thing you got it fixed

  • It's most likely your packet scheduling chip. ask apple to to take in your computer and test the packet scheduling chip... 3rd party software to test it dont work

  • Hi Steve - thanks for watching and your comment. Yes, they swapped everything -- all fixed now.

  • I had a similar problem that cause my Mac Pro to lag OSX I took my mac pro back and the apple store in atlantic city charged me a restocking fee.

Maybe i will try the 8 core mac pro

  • Wow - restocking fee??? Oh man, that stinks! But hey, now you can get the new "FF" 8 core machine! I hope that works out for you!

  • Hi Al, you did a great video on the 3 core boat anchor. Could you give a update video and a Leopard review video? Thanks

  • i think you should take it back it could be a fauilt with the machine

  • No I can't see what's wrong with the Dock... really!!!

  • kurnel_task is using 1.3gb of my 2gb of ram but onley 1.5% of pcu on my mac pro

  • I am jealous... LOL! :)

  • I hardly understood a word you said, however, I wanted to comment that you look terrific and ask how you lost weight.

  • Thank you. I actually do a bit of roller-coastering with my weight, though I am healthier and lighter than from 2000. Shift towards protein, integrate cardio exercise, reduce caloric intake. There is unfortunately no 'magic pill' to the weight loss gain. And eat healthy! :)

  • That's a cheesy/annoying problem to have. For the money you payed for that machine (not to mention lining Apple's pockets w/ their overpriced RAM), you should call Apple tech support and make them solve it. I still have computer envy, though. :)

  • Good times with the g4

  • Hi Alfred, thanks for your videos. The problem with your kernel is probably due to a bug in kernel extension, for example the driver of something non-apple you connect to your mac (nice machine, by the way, the top of the range, I wish I was I rich as you). Run kextstat in terminal and see if there is something that look suspicious. Also try to search on the internet for problems with kernel extensions.

  • Z, thanks for the input. I just got the MacPro back. They swapped out the motherboard and the processors. It was some deep, low-level hardware probelm. The machine was really f_cked. I'll be making a short redux video soon. Thanks for the input! - Alfred

  • "Z, thanks for the input. I just got the MacPro back. They swapped out the motherboard and the processors."

Thank goodness. I watched your other video before this one. I kinda figured it was a hardware problem. I had a video problem with my iMac once. Took it to the Apple store and they had me fixed in a jiffy.

I think of such things as going to the doctor when I loose feeling in one of my legs or something.

  • I had the same problem you need to do a hard rebuild to rewrite a bad code.

    Tom Isaacs

    Apple Computers, Inc

  • Tom, if you were really working for Apple, first, you would not have been allowed to post on YouTube, then you would have signed "Apple Inc."

  • DO you happen to have an HP scanner or all in one?

Problem: If you have an HP scanner that runs HP Scan Manager in the background it will cause sluggish performance of your CPU. The problem drives the "kernel_task" to consume 90-100% of your CPU.

Solution: Open Activity Monitor, find the process for HP Scan Manager and force quit the beasty.

  • Does it run Leopard yet?

  • oh and ubuntu is pretty good, but no where near apple.

  • nice video Al LOL thats alot of crap going on on that core! Steve Jobs took your core! ha ha. im getting a Mac Pro in about a year! i cant wait.

  • I blame WINDOWS! ...OMG DVD's? Are you serious?!

  • HAHA! "Steve Jobs" stole one of my cores.

Man... And that old video from 2000, it almost sounds like you were thinking about posting it at YouTube.

    Keep it up!

  • J - yes, I always filmed as a 'documentary' for future distribution! Thank you for noticing!

  • Ya, I wanna see you actually call Steve Jobs on Video.

  • "We have OS 9.1!"

  • Yours seams to be using double the memory as mine and 100x the processor use and I'm on a macbook core duo :\ I'm guessing it's the RAM, You could try playing it your self ans see what dimm it is. I'd take it to an apple store and bitch the hell out of them. It's a pain but seriously you should be having alot! better performance than that. I dont have dock stutter either. Keep us updated.

  • Can't help you Alfred, don't understand much about mac's. But i think i've seen that application kernell running on windows. Don´t know what it does though. It seems like you have a freaking powerful machine there. Take care ;)

  • Kernels run on every machine regardless of operating system.

The kernel is the bridge that the operating system uses to talk to the hardware.

  • Thanks for enlighten my ignorance miket ;)

    Take care man.

  • Cool Al, I'm not really sure what's going on with your comp. cuz I don't know much about them but was size monitor is that?

  • Hey Trevor - it's an "FF" class 30 inch. It's so damn bright, I have to set the brightness on practically the lowest level!

  • Wohaa! Dude... I SO WANT THAT!

  • Dude i wanna see you call Steve Jobs :D That'd be so great :D

  • hmm I looked at activity monitor on my core 2 duo macbook pro and that kernal was showing like 1-2%.

  • Awesome, thats odd 3 cores. Alfred is the Mac Pro a great system worth the money? Im thinking of getting a Mac Pro system in the late summer after WWDC as a desktop, Ill get the basics for starters. I hear Apple is going to bring the cube back in Octocore. So the Mac Pro should get prices thrown down afterwards. What are the specs for your system? Im assuming its the OS or memory, have you been using cheap memory?

  • Al,

Im digging that huge screen you had hooked up to that G4, what was it like 14 inch. Mammoth. haha awesome, sucks about your MacPro, sounds like some BS to me.

    ~VoXZ

  • So when are we doing our next install, Al? A speed bump for the G4? A Blu-Ray burner for the MacPro? I'm ready when you are!!

  • I still think that my 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo Mac Mini with 512 MB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running Mac OS X Version 10.4.8 is faster than your Mac Pro, adiblasi. Also, while we are talking about different types of Mac computers, do you have Apple Shake, the demo not the full retial version, installed on your computer?

  • Dude, I hate to burst your bubble, but that is just silly. The Mac Pro Al has has got a processor that's twice as fast as yours, and he is running at least 4 times the RAM you are, if not 6 times as much. It's just goofy to think that your Mac Mini is faster. Unless, that is, you can tell why you think so...you didn't give any specifics there.

  • Hey Metal - ahh, I think he was just kidding. Right now, my damn G4 is faster than my MacPro -- which is now resting at the Apple Store in the servix department. Did I just say servix department? I meant service. LOL! Thanks for watching and commenting! - Alfred

  • Hey DUDE!!!! I was not kidding because your Mac Pro was apparently put together by 8 year old retarded monkeys while my Mac Mini was put together by truly trained and certified staff by Apple. You "probably" can't even run Adobe PhotoShop or After Effects on it where as I can run it at smooth speeds. Put that in your pipe and smoke it adiblasi! Just kidding about that but my Mac Mini is still #1 in my heart since this is my first Mac

  • Understood, Keaton. I love my iBook G4 as well, even though it is half the speed of either computer that you guys have on your slowest day. I still love it, so I understand.

  • well al nowits my turn to help you see that colonel thing i dont know if its the same thing but u it might be cookiens i looked on the net and kernals is something websites are using instead of cookies tha t way you dont delete them there a bitch to get rid of so if i where you dump the core re install your software and try to catch them early because its easier to get rid of

  • I love this one...and your the best sales person Apple ever has...hee hee hee

even if your not selling them..I'm starting to even like saying...mAc..hee hee hee

  • Looking at your Mac is getting me all hot! Even with that little problem, it's still beautiful to look at! Can I touch you... can I touch it! I'm jealous! 5 Stars 4 U!

  • haha..you are a freak :p

  • Ubuntu is African for something like "For Everyone." Is it possible that the system is too fast for the Mac edition installed? I know Windows often does this if you have more than one core and you're not using Windows 64-bit.

  • Lechiem! Lechiem! switch to linux or triple boot the os or somthing

  • Alfred, your "Bloody British Accent" is tonnes better than my American lol!

  • Yeah SUSE is fantastic, for more than one reason, alot better than "ubooooto" Alfie ;-)

LOL PS3 users should be a little more annoyed, the Cell chip has 7 cores, however one is made redundant, apparantly its easier to produce 7 than 6...

  • Alfred... I think you need to do a reinstall, my 2.66 Mac Pro isnt like that!!

  • Just get Vista. :-P

  • I liked the virtual boy in the back round.

  • Oh no! Don't switch to ubuntu, hah. I recently got some ubuntu-discs just for fun, but I would never leave OS X for Linux.. weird problem with the processor though

  • duuuude! when did you get that? we need more videos on its awesomeness! (not in this case..) would a firmware update sort this issue out?

  • Ubuntu is not my favorite. Try SuSE or some other incarnation. Don't forget that no matter which distro of Linux you chose, the kernel portion of the OS is the same.

  • By the way, in an article I read a long time ago. Apple choose the 6502 chip because they couldn't afford a 8080. The 65XX series was originally designed as an embedded applications processor.

  • So what you're saying is that Apple took BSD and screwed it up? In the bios setup you may be able to set the system so it can be turned on by pressing any key on the keyboard. Check it out. Just guessing since it's an Intel based machine.
