that would indeed be tiger, Jaguar was never released to the public with the ability to run on the x86 platform and was way before the mac pros time=]
Al, linux and OS X are like cousins - they both come from the same kernal - Darwin Unix. So in essence, you're already partly using linux! WOH - ADAM B 7 YRS AGO!
Mr. DiBlasi, I wish you well, and I wish you would put more videos of you getting these Macs (The PowerMac G4). It was neat seeing that vid all the way from 2000! 5/5

hehe! the first thing you did with your all new computer was open it and tuch things in it :P i like your videos, keep up the good work! or like we say in Sweden: Fortsätt såhär bra!
i looked on my mac mini kernal task is using 2.20% on my mac mini core duo and 61mb of 1gb ram so that machine there is something really wrong good thing you got it fixed
It's most likely your packet scheduling chip. ask apple to to take in your computer and test the packet scheduling chip... 3rd party software to test it dont work
Thank you. I actually do a bit of roller-coastering with my weight, though I am healthier and lighter than from 2000. Shift towards protein, integrate cardio exercise, reduce caloric intake. There is unfortunately no 'magic pill' to the weight loss gain. And eat healthy! :)
That's a cheesy/annoying problem to have. For the money you payed for that machine (not to mention lining Apple's pockets w/ their overpriced RAM), you should call Apple tech support and make them solve it. I still have computer envy, though. :)
Hi Alfred, thanks for your videos. The problem with your kernel is probably due to a bug in kernel extension, for example the driver of something non-apple you connect to your mac (nice machine, by the way, the top of the range, I wish I was I rich as you). Run kextstat in terminal and see if there is something that look suspicious. Also try to search on the internet for problems with kernel extensions.
Z, thanks for the input. I just got the MacPro back. They swapped out the motherboard and the processors. It was some deep, low-level hardware probelm. The machine was really f_cked. I'll be making a short redux video soon. Thanks for the input! - Alfred
"Z, thanks for the input. I just got the MacPro back. They swapped out the motherboard and the processors."
Thank goodness. I watched your other video before this one. I kinda figured it was a hardware problem. I had a video problem with my iMac once. Took it to the Apple store and they had me fixed in a jiffy.
I think of such things as going to the doctor when I loose feeling in one of my legs or something.
DO you happen to have an HP scanner or all in one?
Problem: If you have an HP scanner that runs HP Scan Manager in the background it will cause sluggish performance of your CPU. The problem drives the "kernel_task" to consume 90-100% of your CPU.
Solution: Open Activity Monitor, find the process for HP Scan Manager and force quit the beasty.
Yours seams to be using double the memory as mine and 100x the processor use and I'm on a macbook core duo :\ I'm guessing it's the RAM, You could try playing it your self ans see what dimm it is. I'd take it to an apple store and bitch the hell out of them. It's a pain but seriously you should be having alot! better performance than that. I dont have dock stutter either. Keep us updated.
Can't help you Alfred, don't understand much about mac's. But i think i've seen that application kernell running on windows. Don´t know what it does though. It seems like you have a freaking powerful machine there. Take care ;)
Awesome, thats odd 3 cores. Alfred is the Mac Pro a great system worth the money? Im thinking of getting a Mac Pro system in the late summer after WWDC as a desktop, Ill get the basics for starters. I hear Apple is going to bring the cube back in Octocore. So the Mac Pro should get prices thrown down afterwards. What are the specs for your system? Im assuming its the OS or memory, have you been using cheap memory?
Im digging that huge screen you had hooked up to that G4, what was it like 14 inch. Mammoth. haha awesome, sucks about your MacPro, sounds like some BS to me.
I still think that my 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo Mac Mini with 512 MB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running Mac OS X Version 10.4.8 is faster than your Mac Pro, adiblasi. Also, while we are talking about different types of Mac computers, do you have Apple Shake, the demo not the full retial version, installed on your computer?
Dude, I hate to burst your bubble, but that is just silly. The Mac Pro Al has has got a processor that's twice as fast as yours, and he is running at least 4 times the RAM you are, if not 6 times as much. It's just goofy to think that your Mac Mini is faster. Unless, that is, you can tell why you think so...you didn't give any specifics there.
Hey Metal - ahh, I think he was just kidding. Right now, my damn G4 is faster than my MacPro -- which is now resting at the Apple Store in the servix department. Did I just say servix department? I meant service. LOL! Thanks for watching and commenting! - Alfred

By the way, in an article I read a long time ago. Apple choose the 6502 chip because they couldn't afford a 8080. The 65XX series was originally designed as an embedded applications processor.
So what you're saying is that Apple took BSD and screwed it up? In the bios setup you may be able to set the system so it can be turned on by pressing any key on the keyboard. Check it out. Just guessing since it's an Intel based machine.
