It is truly a shame that the footage that was aired on Shindig from the Who's appearance at Richmond has completely dissapeared from the face of the Earth of the Who doing 'My Generation.'
America had never seen such a performance on TV, and it revolutionized and already alienated youth to even greater alienation from normal 'society' for that time period.
That footage should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame............it sent a shock wave across America.
Wow, this is awesome footage! And look at the Ox, even back then he had the same expression, all he cared about was how his bass sounded and it sounded like no-one else! RIP!
Keith used hi-hats during the early live performances but later abandoned them because they weren't loud enough when playing live. He did, however, use them in every studio album he made up until his death.
Wow. sure looks like it. However, this was during his earliest days. It did become one of his trademarks not to use them-- he'd had maybe 1 1/2 years of 9very sporadic drumming lessons due in part to his ADD problems). Check out the video I favorited--still at the top of my chanell someplace-- on Keith's drumming style, if you would be so kind.
I do love the way he tells Roger to 'fuck off' when he's putting the microphone all over that cymbal. I would have done too...don't mess with me instrument, MATE!
Even then, and they hadn't been playing together too long, he still played intuitively with the bass and the guitar. Maybe not the best technical drummer in the world, but certainly the one with the most passion and 'feel' of any drummer I've seen.
@accadaccasuperstar I would never for one moment suggest that Keith wasn't king of the drums. But if you compare him to, say, a pure jazz drummer, then he doesn't have the discipline for it. But for sheer excitement and musical nous, nobody but NOBODY comes close to Keith and never will, in my book. And I LOVE Young Man Blues, but I prefer his performance in Sparks most times. Amazing!
OMG LIKE THE SCREAMING IS LIKE PIERCING MY FUCKIN EARS.IT'S LIKE SHUT THE FUCK UP U UGLY BITCHES DAMN!!

what a great drum solo! He was amazing. No high hats, and played a melodic bassline

@snubbs741 the screams were edited into the video for the beatles-ey, british invasion feel.

@lexy67flc Not the most technically able? Listen to Young Man Blues from the "Live at Leeds" album. That concretes himself as the king of drums!
