Transliteration into roman letters from Thai is the work of the devil. For those of you trying to learn Thai somewhat serious try to make the transition from transliteration to Thai Alphabet as fast as possible. You can never get the transliteration to "sound" correct. I did study using transl. but now I dont use it anymore as I read Thai. Reading Thai will improve not only the obvious, reading skills, but also your speaking. Good luck! / Sam
I love your videos - I seem to be able to relate to them better than others.
One aspect I find hard appears to stem from the transliteration of Thai script. I often see "thank" as "kob", but the last consonant is a dead 'p' I believe? Are people using 'b' simply because it sounds like a 'b'? When I see 'kob' I keep thinking its like english 'job' :(
the word for "thanks" in Thai is "ขอบคุณ". There is no standard phonetics, some people use 'p', some people use 'b', but for Thais they are the same thing since we don't pronounce the last letter out loud like English. We just close our lips. I hope I answered your question:)
@LearnThaiwithMod Thanks for replying. I think in trying to understand Thai script I've logically associated the letters to literal translations, e.g. ข as an initial consonant is 'kh', the vowel อ being 'aaw', and บ as a final consonant is a dead 'p', making 'kh-aaw-p'. So when _writing_ the transliteration I didn't think there was anything else it could be and writing it with a 'b' would be read incorrectly by a Thai person (but speaking it you would understand). Maybe I think too much!
I have a request... Can you show how to say something quickly... Like kor - tot... I notice that when you pronounce something quickly in thai it sounds different...
