The Nintendo 64 supported stereo sound, which baffles me as to why they didn’t use it in that version. It was an early N64 title, yeah, but still, that’s no excuse.
Thank you for posting this, along with every other “Mace” video that you have uploaded to this channel. Midway sure was the king of fighting games back in the day.
I’ve been a long time subscriber of yours, and I’ve read in the comments that you don’t play this much anymore, but….
I’ve just got to say that these Mace arcade videos just blow me away! The sound effects are absolutely incredible compared to the Nintendo 64 version. The clanging of the metal here really gets me pumped, so much so that I thirst for the arcade version the more that I watch this clip!
@RAV52 I do agree about this. I think MACE happens to be one of the few fighting games with a well-written backstory behind it. I like the fact that everyone seems linked to the other character in some way.
On a remake however, chances are pretty slim because the game didn't really take off and the license to this game lapsed. Consider also the fact that Midway folded. This gives us very slim chances of an update.
OMG i used to love this fighting game i have it on emulator but it doesn't work in PJ64 it kills everyone and KO nobody wins sometimes it lets u play for like 3min then it suicides everyone. so annoying. I used to play thi @ cici's pizza (arcade) and on N64. :( The arcade version had WAY smoother graphics...you can't tell in this video becuse its not HQ but it looks ALOT better in person playing it(ARCADE version) than on N64 or in this video.
i have this game on mame , but it doesn;t run that smooth, and the graphics are not that pretty. My pc is brand new and its specifications are pretty high (quadcore AMD, RADEON4890 2gb, 4Gb RAM). Could you tell me your version of mame and the options you have checked/unchecked?
@Aman1984 Boy... hmm... I remember setting the bios settings to low details but that's primarily to prevent the graphics glitches. Apart from that, it really *should* run properly. Like 80% to 90% of the speed if not 100%. Nowadays I just copy my settings file when I need to play it on a different machine. Naturally, it means I don't remember much of the settings I used.
As you know the nature of this, I can't exactly just spell it out for you. But on MAME, you'll need the Mace rom and the CHD. You cannot play without the two. The CHD file is around 100+ mb.
From the looks of it, flip video is an actual camera recorder, which would work, partially, I think because the screen refresh rate would make the video on screen flicker.
I use an old version of mameuifx32 for Windows. I think 1.23 or something in that range. On Linux, I used sdlmame 0.126. Trust me, the versions hardly change the performance. You need a multicore cpu (and a good graphics card).
which setting are you using for mame?i have a dual pentium at 3ghz,4 gb ram and a geforce, but still the game is not as fluid as you show on your video..
I know I switch the details to low because Medium is slow and there are graphics corruption on the Executioner level. That's all the settings I remember.
BTW, the actual game did not run as fast as that video at the time of record (but I do have a stronger pc now).
In English please. I tried to translate your words but that returned quite a bit of expletives. If you're asking what this is... it's Mace running on Mame.
On Windows, I believe it's a little bit more straight forward though Mame has recording facilities. You can run Mame with flags passed --record, I think so it'll record your controller presses. Then you can make it do a record video by pressing F10, I think, while you playback the button presses. I did a separate recording of the video and audio and the rest is video editing to put the two together.
Mame, IMO, seems a little cpu-bound at this point in time. My system has an Intel Core 2 duo clocked at 2 GHz with 2 gb ram and an nVIDIA 8600 graphics card. It runs it at around 60% of the speed. I'd recommend you get an Intel Core 2 Quad. It's almost guaranteed to run at 100% speed.
What a pleasure if you can make an interview exclusive with the game development team for your channel carrying exclusive informations about the game.
It's a real pain. And recording this has been equally a pain because the frame rate and the audio barely sync which made the whole process a total headache. I do play it every now and then. Thinking about it though, we are approaching the kind of hardware needed to play this game.

They need to upgrade this game and reintroduce it for the current gaming platforms on the market... I would buy it in a heartbeat!!

Can I use the keyboard to play this?
ImmortalinHim77 1 year ago
@ImmortalinHim77 You are certainly welcome to try. My experience is that, it gave me a better understanding on how Mace reads combo input.

@True2TheBlueYoViGang I think this video was uploaded at the time Youtube was introducing HQ, so I sort of missed that one.

can you do more 1 match videos of the mame version like this short video i want to see taria and her stage
adidas1984x 2 years ago
There is a possibility I could be borrowing a digital camera (hopefully with a video recorder on it), so maybe I can do the records there. We'll see.

if u use flip video will it record some more mame gameplay i want a mame playthrough or just some quick matches

Also, I don't own such a device.
