  • no, Iv'e learned to keep my mouth shut! I made some suggestions and was told to butt out, so I do. Your right about the Genisis problem, I use three SD 70M's to keep the tracks clean. They're run daily.

  • They've changed these pages since I was on it and can't find your other posting. The layout has two class. yards.,eight branches. Redford yard handles makes trains for Redford, Orangeburg,Whitney, and Brownsville. The Bluington yard handles the Bluington cars and makes trains for Amberton,Greensboro, and Blackstone. More than 325 freight cars are shifted in a cycle.

  • Hmm! Would you settle for an F45 in Merger paint? I used to use the loco. for track cleaning. Done daily. Check out some of the other vids. and you'll see why the layout is so large. I've built more than 45 Hobbytowns over the years---still have one in the box----but todays locos. are so perfect out of the box. I spent considerable time maintaining them as I might put a mile on in an evening.

I'm going to have to make a new vid. as most of the layout is done and has had the track replaced

  • @sakcad - An F45? Certainly, thanks! Yes, today's locos are excellent (although expensive). The Atlas, InterMountain, and Kato units run like switch watches. Athearn has had some quality control issues on some of their Genesis and RTR units but, overall, are decent units with some tweaking. I will check out your other videos. BTW: Are you a member of the Atlas or MRR Forums? - Thanks :-)

  • Just finished watching the entire vid. ENJOYED IT very much. The Micromark camera has its limitations, but it most certainly did the job. Again, compliments on being creative on western scenery and for making the video extra-enjoyable by including the Santa Fe varnish. BTW: (me being selfish) but it would be so cool if you decide to shoot a new vid and include a Santa Fe FP45 hauling the varnish :-)

  • The side-by-side pacing with the Santa Fe passenger trains is super cool!

  • That's a very small TV camera (available from MICRO-MARK) that I rigged up on a flat car. Actually there are two cameras that I work with a remote to turn one off and operate the other. I built a battery from two six volt cells that I purchased from ALL ELECTRONICS. The layout is so big that the nine volt cells do not have the time that I need to film the layout. It'll probably be easier if I make a video for you. The camera broadcasts to a receiver that is tied to my camcorder.

  • What I want to know, is where and how did you rig a camera small enough for that footage? Set at the right height for the cab window, and obviously within the confines of a locomotive body. Brilliant work by the way

  • Yes it's been fun. It's not my original design by the way. After the last recession in 75 the cost of the hobby shot up and necessitated a change in the plan.

There's more than 100 structures on the layout. I had to rebuild the engine facilities to accommodate all the new engines that I just had to have.

  • thats what i call a birde eye view ...well done...I carn`t get over the size of your layout...must have taken a long time to build.....fantastic
