Shawn - I'm a huge fan of the DVDs and your swing teaching. I noticed a comment below about slicing and another about lack of power. For me, it took really embracing the toss and fall on the back swing. In addition, if I didn't keep my left arm straight, it lead to problems. Those two points were key. And the feet together drill has been the best thing ever. It forces me to turn instead of shifting laterally and that give me so much power. Thanks for the great teachings.
At 6:45 you can see his left wrist is cuffed (not flat) and his hands are behind the ball. According to key fundamentals, this is a catastrophic flaw.. Any tips on how to keep that nice rythmic flow while at the same time keeping the hands forward, left wrist flat, and being able to get the most power out of the swing? I have been an advocate of the shawn clement school over a year, but have exactly the same flaw. It's frustrating to feel I get solid contact, but go to video & see the mistake
@oscarramiro The Key here Oscar is that the swing is always a work in progress and the grip is often an area that is very difficult to change; he does not have the right grip size here and when he does, his grip will improve and THEN, HE WILL BE ABLE TO HINGE BOTH WRISTS TOGETHER IN THE BACKSWING which will prevent the left wrist from cupping too much; then the importance is to make sure you swing to the target with a nice snap! Shawn
Hi Shawn love these videos, I have used alot of your tips but for some reason I have the worst slice in the world, however on the odd occasions that I do hit the ball correctly I hit it long long way. IE a 9iron over 150 yards. Could you suggest any of your videos which might help me out...
Man, this tells me there could be many things going on, grip needs to be spot on, tilt of body has to be braced properly, you need to feel that snap past the ball etc...You need to order my dvd series to make sure everything is set up in priority sequence; in the meantime, see "golf pro lesson taut swing philosophy"; it will help get you on the right track;
Have him see a spine at a doctor's or chiropractic office and show him how each vertebrae has it's own built in wing called a facet that prevents the spine from twisting; when you keep forcing against these stoppers, the tissue between them get ground to a pulp and then you end up in your mid 40's like Jesper Parnevik with so much damage you consider calling it quits; Hale Irwin enjoyed a very long career that keeps going today because he allowed his body to respond to the swing of club...
Shawn,I keep getting into a debate with my Father. Whenever I show him the hip turn you teach (and I use) on the backswing like in the Hogan Power Swing video, he argues that pros like Hunter Mahan/Anthony Kim barely turn their hips that much on the back swing. Can you please give me some arguing points so I can get some "leverage" in this debate!
Sure! Right now, Rory McIlroy is being treated for STRAINED LIGAMENTS IN HIS LOWER BACK; the trainer said he had it tough lately practicing 10 days in a row and playing 2 of three weeks...funny, I have many 40 somethings that are practicing over 3 hours a day for the last 6 months non stop with no repercussions; see also Tom Watson and Bubba Watson! I could go on and on! Shawn
David Leadbetter's teachings from the early '90's. That right leg 'move in' to start the back swing is so passe. Is that a euro taught swing, vs North American swing?? Who does that anymore?
I urge all of you to listen to everything Shawn says. I have been playing golf for 25 years but it wasnt until I found Shawns that I understood what I have been doing wrong. Once you stop trying to get yourself in positions (like David Leadbetter teaches) and feel your swing you wont improve. When I took this swing to the driving range for the first time I was amazed by the simplicity. I kept saying it cant be this easy.. but it is! Thanks Shawn.
Thanks Matt; let me interject something here; EVERYONE ON TOUR DID THIS IN THE 60' S AND 70'S INCLUDING Lee Trevino (Over 30 wins), Arnold Palmer (60+ wins), Gary Player and Sam Snead and Billy Casper who have over 300 wins combined world wide!!! It is more like Leadbetter is one of the main contributors getting many of us off track including dozens of PGA Tour players who had amazing potential!
Great videos...been using your swing with better results but still lack power.Any tips..tried the "Hogan power move" but found it differed completely from your normal "top of backswing" drop back onto the left foot....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Cheers S.T (U.K)
I found power through planting that front foot on the downswing. When you have leverage you can assist momentum and kill the ball. If you dont believe Shawn then watch Jack (Golf My Way), George Knudson (natural golf swing), or any of Hogans swing videos. These new golf teachers are like the credit card companies..sucking the life out of us. Stick with Shawn. -Joe
See my general video on the swing philosophy called "golf pro lesson taut swing philosophy" and the snuff boxes you will see in the "golf pro lesson grip 2 wrist hinge" video; now if you are suffering with power, you need to get your hands on my dvd series because it has all the important info in priority sequence so that you don't miss anything important; lots you have not seen yet on you tube either; Shawn
Hi shawn... what a luxury to able to come to you.. ! Just a couple of questions..in relation to inconsistency in swings...1)If i toss it wide, hinging is always late (like hinging at slightly above the shoulder level)..y? Tossing the hands with the body seems to make me shift to the right like what this video does..So the correct feeling is that like i am rotating around that body part connecting to my hips?(sorry do not know what is that name for that body part
The best way to feel where the wrists hinge in the backswing is to perfect the "Golf pro lesson Perpetual motion drill" and also see my "golf pro lesson timing and tempo update"; I would also look at the second half of the "golf pro lesson student swing analysis" part 2; Shawn
Seeing the changes is David's swing helps me see the flaws in my swing and how to apply Shawn's teaching. I have that same grip problem. I'm tall as well 6'2.
I cant believe this guy has stole my idea. I am halfway through EXACTLY the same process.
I got clubs fitted, videoed early swings-contacted YOU and told you what I was doing. This guy is a COPY of my work. Bit annoyed. My site is called Scratchquest-a better name I think you will agree!
Did not mean to annoy you at all! David is paying for his services with me as per my rates at the learning center as well as the fees for video analysis; you are welcome to have at it as well! I was approached by him with the idea, and I can assure you that he did not copy this from anyone; with today's access to internet with you tube, it is a wonder we don't see more of these...Shawn
It's Ok mate, my annoyance was tongue in cheek!!!!
I can't afford to fly to Canada for golf lessons (is this guy very rich or more likely mad!??). After a number of false starts I have at last found a teacher who is very good and who's philosophy I can follow.
Your videos and DVD are excellent Shawn and have helped me. BUT I think you do NEED face to face coaching also as a MUST. Since often one cant see a clear mistake (it feels different) , also misinterpretation is easy.
Hey Shawn, it's Aldo Here, hey I love your DVD,some people say that Tiger is the God of Golf, but let me tell you, I think you are becuase I admire you when someone can play so well and explain so clearly this game a let too much peaople learn I thinks that's what I call Knowledge in GOLF, that's waht you are for me, I think soon I goona send you my new swing of course of what I learn about you my golf game have improve a lot, thanks teacher
Exactly!! If you swing through to the target without a brace, you will definitely spin out because there is not platform to unwind on; see "golf pro lesson downswing weightshift' and "golf pro lesson 2008 golf swing review" part 2; then finish with "golf pro lesson tilted twirl"; Shawn
You are correct! You should have seen his previous swings; this is a major improvement and he continues to work into a more balanced center; notice how we have him planting his right heel to start the swing like Johnny Miller and Billy Casper used to do; this gets him more centered and balanced into the backswing; handicap will be determined as the season starts...:)
David: I'm going to check out CraptoScratch. It's a very ambitious plan.
I'm also working on a specific goal: To drop from a 14 to a 7 by the end of 2010. All on a limited time budget.
You're in good hands working with Shawn. Good luck to you.

@ihaveaclone,
Have a look at "Golf Pro Lesson Takeaway and Starting Swing"...it isn't just a moving in of the leg, it's a reaction to momentum flowing naturally.

@SuperTerrier1
It's that little cup on the inside of your wrist, underneath your thumb where the hand/wrist unit is designed to hinge on.
