  • Levonth Heven !!

  • I love all of these men, but, I think I love Levon most of all.

  • @ecatt333 It's too difficult to choose. I mean, Richard's facial expressions are the best facial expressions ever.

  • and anyone who wants to tell me how big an idiot Robbie is can go fuck themselves....Remember, JRR was handpicked by Bob Dylan to play lead guitar on the tour that changed the face of live music forever. If that's not enough for people to respect him than they just don't know music......

  • Last song ever performed by the original lineup.....and they fucking killed it. If I could go back in time and see any concert of my choosing it would be this one. The greatest band ever assembled, along with some of the finest, most influential talent in the history of music! I mean c'mon....Mannish Boy with The Band backing Muddy? can't beat it, or Van dropping his mic and storming off the stage after one of the great vocal performances ever....classic shit!

  • The Band are the best fucking band ever.

  • The Band Blows Me Away!!!! Levon Helm is the Best Drummer I've ever heard !!

These Guys are Natural God Given Talents! Ilisten to this song every day,no lie!

  • If there is a god...

    which I doubt....

but IF there is a god ....

    and when I die....

one of the things in heaven...

    will be this vid.

  • Such talent. We shall never see the likes of them again.....

  • Great band the band!!

  • 12 people are beiber fans!

  • Okay but lousy seeing them all put their cigarettes out as they walk on stage!!! HACK HACK HACK

  • @lyralong if you only knew how much cocaine they had in their bodies for this show, you would probably never listen to them again!

  • Anybody who knows the title of the song by the Band where they sings about crazy psychiatrists and lawyers....???

    thanks

    ed

    w w w eddy nu

  • @onlinelondon

    to kingdom come?

  • Magical!!

  • I love Rick's bass tone

  • full vid my channel

  • /the-band/video/dont-do-it_1002632.html

this is the full version of this song thumbs up!!!

put that at the end of this wolfgangsvault com

  • "Mah biggest mistake was LOVIN' YOU TOO MUCH!!!"

  • @CitySkin09 But the real key to those lyrics is... "And Letting You KNOW"...

  • @CitySkin09 My favorite lyric too!! Their Awesome!! Best drummer and Musicians.. Kick ass awesome singers all of them!!!I'm in love with this Band!!

  • Levon Helm...I can't stop looking at you!!! your Amazing!!! This Music is the Ultimate

funky kick ass country!!!! and I don't like country...but You make it so hot!!!!

  • Levon Helm...One Hot Sexy Drummer...So Far the Best I've seen and Listened to!!

  • I know they didn't have the cameras rolling the whole concert, and maybe some of what they did catch is lost, but I wish they would release all the footage they have from this show on a special edition or something. They cut out about half of this song, (you can hear the whole thing on the Last Waltz CD release). (Cut is at about 1:14, they leave off another verse, the bridge--"Open up your eyes, girl!"--and one of the two solos.)

  • sat in the balcony of a theater in downtown minneapolis in 1978 and witnessed this fabulous concert....was brought to tears

  • dont do it

  • damn good stuff even the devil would stand in amazment

  • 12 people had it done to them.

  • Simply The Best.

  • @mcdstuff try the original Lynyrd Skynyrd with Ronnie Van Zant anything prior to Oct.20 1977. Best ever

  • Damn.

  • @couttsstuart amen to that brother!

  • Scorcese ought to stick to gangsta shit.

  • There have been12 people here who don't no shit about music.

  • The Band! They're better than you!

  • Hate to burst the bubble, but if you go over to "Wolfgang's Vault", they now have the original LW videos up, without the overdubs. Marked difference between this one and the original (no horns, you can actually hear Garth's organ, etc). We got jobbed with the official release, folks.

  • Men....making rock and roll history.

    Cool.

  • Levon fucking Helm

  • @Deathfromthesky2112... and Rick Motherfuckin Danko

  • ...this rocks... strange, though - the overdubs on the re-mastered edition sound different to the VHS copy i grew up with; the bass intro is completely different...

...this is a model of ragged white rockers re-modelling a soul original..

  • The song, as it's shown in the movie, does no justice to the song's actual full-length performance as it appears on the album. My thoughts are that Levon's syncopation in this version makes it one of the best, known performances of this song.

  • best band ever

  • Im proud to say ive met Garth Hudson

  • How could anyone argue with this awesome live performance playing in the background????????????

  • i propose a vote to ban comments related to the following artists from their compulsively angry fans:

    the band and/or bob dylan

clapton vs beck vs hendrix vs page

    yoko ono

    who's with me?

  • Robbie yep just do it!

  • So now...........stfu and raise the volume. No one is taking any credit away from Gaye both him and The Band were great artist.

  • To the Three Stooges arguing over the best version, music is what moves your listener, so to 'declare' who is good, better, best is dumb, dumber, dumbest. Music is about what stirs the individual. If you truly believe that people have to agree with you to have any worth, then become a conservative radio talkshow host... then you can impose your will upon others to only respect your beliefs. Otherwise, shut up and enjoy the music.

  • @dbcoll1957 On pages with the Band's songs, people never simply 'listen to the music'. They argue endlessly, about the Robertson and Helm feud, about the Civil War, about race, about whether America refers to a country or a continent, about other musicians. I love this group but its fans are batsh!t crazy

  • @NursingSoftware I'm batshit crazy, but I don't bother with all that nonsense. I use up too much time being a general freak, it's great!

  • @NursingSoftware goddamn right we are crazy hahhahaha

  • you can know find the full version of this song i uploaded it onto my profile

  • THIS FILM SHOULD BE PLAYED LOUD!

  • Is this genre, southern rock, blues/rock, southern/blues/rock, southern/blues.......?

  • who are the ll cankerblossoms that disliked this!?

  • The dude in the long sleeve shirt before the song looks almost like David Gilmour.

  • I watch this movie every year on Thanksgiving as a matter of tradition. Who knew one of the greatest rock & roll bands in history would make Thanksgiving so fucking cool...

  • anyone want the unheard full version of this live song send me your e mail

  • THE GREATEST BAND ON EARTH.

    FOR EVER AND EVER:

  • And I mean this exact live performance.

  • Is there an mp3 of this anywhere? I bought the audio Last Waltz off itunes but this track was not on it.

  • @GreenbergBass dude this video has many cuts in it its better to have the full song man

  • another sad loss gerry rafferty dead ."baker street"

  • an its live as well so good. pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee dont you break my heart

  • I am 16 years old... I love this old music sooooooo much I feel like I was born in the wrong year, my parents grew up listening to great music like this and I get to grow up listening to crap like Lil Wayne =(

The Band is the greatest band of all time hands down

  • @legitasheck Me too, I'm also in your age, and I hate crap like Lil Wayne. The Band is tha shit!

  • @legitasheck Yeah, so just don't listen to Lil Wayne...it's a pretty simple solution.

  • @legitasheck dude in 14 nd i lov all the old shit like 50s 60s 70s nd 80s ask me and ill know the band

  • @legitasheck Don't worry...I'm 13 and I'm the same way!! I have to grow up listening to that shit too!

  • @legitasheck Im 19 and i have loved the band for years, and they heal with me with all their heartfelt ballads like acadian driftwood, and it makes no difference. and jupiter hollow gets me up beat as does this one. I also feel i grew up too late but its nice to that another young person else shares the same passion for these songs

  • @legitasheck theres plenty of good stuff today. Its just not mainstream so you gotta look a little harder

  • @legitasheck I understand you, I'm 19 years old and I'm italian, so I was born in the wrong year and in the wrong place

  • @legitasheck you have very good taste. i was 11 when this album came out. it has accompanied my life. good music is universal and timeless.

  • @legitasheck dude... quit bragging about your age. The fact that you're 16 and you like this music is cool but it is nothing to brag about. White Power!

  • @taylor410ce

    You're jealous of a 16 year old?....

just because you're not 16, anymore?

You had your turn to be 16....now it's their turn.

And what's with the "white power?" You haven't aged well.

Order some wings...and you'll feel better, until tomorrow.

  • @legitasheck No question, but I'd rather be 16 again than on Medicare. Saw them live in Buffalo

in about 67, best concert I ever heard. Go see Levon sometime. RGH

  • @legitasheck Yeah dude but theres also great great bands out there today.

  • @Alexbandits Not like this there isnt

  • @Alexbandits That is true................it just seems like many of them don't have the same power and soul that they had back then. But times change all the time so.

  • @legitasheck i'm 16 and I love the band too...

  • @legitasheck I'm also a young Band fan, but there is good contemporary music out there. For that road-weary dust-covered sound, check out My Morning Jacket; they do a great version of the Band's "Makes No Difference." It's on Youtube too

  • little known fact about this show - dylan turned up with the fugs who apparently did a great version of "boobs a lot" with cher up onstage shaking hers in time. that's why there's no footage of bobby charles; scorsese is sitting on a whole roll of this stuff and we just sit here saying nothing, america...!!!

  • When I think that this is their last song and what happened afterwards, I can't help wish I could just change the ending.

This is the best band of all time and it's too bad they couldn't have gone on for another 20+ years. Just imagine what they could have done.

  • Happy and thanks again for giving us your best!!!!!! You guys are the "best"

  • @barbrastreyesand: It is clear to me you know nothing about music, harmony, time or production.

This "band" was on the top of their game. You have 5 solid, well versed musicians who were able to share over 30 instruments to create what will go down as the greatest music of all time.

  • @barbrastreyesand no no no robs tone of his guitar is better than any guitarist IMO love it so much

  • @barbrastreyesand Yur taste is in yur ass.

  • i heard some major drugs were consumed at that concert

  • this is the best version of this song, when people cover this song now..they cover The Band's version

  • this is how i celebrate thanksgiving turkey and the last waltz

  • @guyinfuckinghat , it's been 34 years since then, time will fly sadly

  • Happy Thanksgiving!

  • @ThomasPaineCS1

Damn you beat me to it! Enjoy it.

  • Robbie was simply smokin' hot. So there.

  • @asktunes Rick is clearly the coolest.

  • Comment removed

  • i partyed with Danko & Helm backstage Philadelphia (got autographs 1983) met Robbie in NYC 2002 for a promo at record store next to Ground Zero (also got autograph)

  • NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOO. Clearly the coolest is RICHARDFUCKEDYOURMOTHERMANUEL!!!

  • @griffenb AMEN BRUTHA!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why cant we have the full performance of this song

  • this song is one of the 1st moments of my childhood, watching the last waltz with my dad.<3

  • @MrJadeHannah i share the same expirence with my dad.

  • Rick , Robbie and Levon were not just cool, they were amazing. Man bring the good times back..when music sounded good. What the hell is Lady gaga? I would love to see, Dylan, Robbie, Rick, Van Morrison, Neil Diamond, Dr John and all those cool dudes back on stage together

  • @VN223 Don't forget Hudson and Manuel, damn. Hudson was more than just an organ player, he was a fucking magician on the organ!

  • @Elphir , i met Garth backstage, but i didnt get his autograph (yet) i partyed with Danko & Helm 1983 backstage. Met Robbie NYC 2002. Got Danko, Helm & Robertson's autograph on the Last Waltz album cover

  • @VN223:

Neil Diamond--and in many ways Robbie Roberson--can eat a dick. Neil YOUNG is another story. I love Robbie's work with The Band, and I know he's talented, but he was a shameful fucking bastard when it came to giving the other band members their due. For a good understanding of the entire half-century long drama, read Levon Helms' book, THIS WHEEL'S ON FIRE.

  • @bugsong dont believe everything you read, most bands suffer from break ups and not everyone walks away happy. They were a great band, so enjoy the music and forget the politics..cheers

  • @VN223: Nah, that's cool, man. But thanks. Music inspires me, which leads me to grow quite fond of those who create it well. I think what you consider "politics" I consider "human relationships," which I also care about. The Band is more than a spinning record. The stories and the history make the musical experience much more rich and complex. But to each his or her own.

  • 00:26-00:30 ...those two are adorable.

    levon and rick are badassss.

also, robbie freaking blew the roof off the building.

    ilTB

  • @geminijewel 1:17 Very nice.

  • RIP Rick Danko you soulful mother fucker!

  • @Rastafarian1882 oh god, aint it the truth??

  • am back again

  • Damn those guys had good taste in hats...

  • so good

  • Love this song. It may have been Marvin Gaye's orginally but it's the Band's now. This is one of my absolute all time favourite songs. This particular version is garbled in some spots but the song itself is amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • Robbie Robertson is a douche

  • i'm not gay, man, but rick danko's a good looking motherfucker...plus he's an excellent bass player

  • @bearbearcooper I am a woman and I totally agree!

  • Man this is great but the audio is messed up in the beginning and at the end; need reposted.

  • Rick Danko was so awesome he can play like a mofo and he was so hot!!!

  • This Song - "Don't Do It" / Is A Cover Originally By Marvin Gaye. ( BUT THE BAND OWNS THIS TUNE For Sure)...

What's Strange & Sad, Is That This Tune" Opens Up The "Last Waltz"...

However It Was The LAST Song Preformed That Evening...

Meaning It Was The Last Song Ever Played By The Most Under Rated Band Of ALL Times...

    "THE BAND"...

  • @RemoVegas i heard robbie conned the rest of them out of the money from the last waltz post back if anyone knows wether its true

  • @RemoVegas It was used in a cool way in the movie, though. It showed them performing their last tune together and then it goes back-in time if you will- to the beginning of the show and all. It's pretty meat.

  • @RemoVegas How can you be in the r&r hall of fame and be underrated?

  • @RemoVegas No no no The Who at the young vic,,warm up jam session during the rehearsals for Pete Townshends "Lifehouse"(aborted).Their version really puts some wind through the old blouse. The Isley brothers is also better on their first album.

  • @GILLYRUTH The Who's version can't compare, neither can Gaye's. Both are well done, but this is by far the best.

  • @AFatGuyNamedPete I did nt mention Marvin Gaye,,,,But I did listen again to the Bands version,it does nt have the stop start rock and roll riff that the song is built on.The drumming is so damn tame compared with Moons on the one I spoke of.In fact its endless drone same level of performance all the way through, they fail to lift it above filler material.I wonder if your ability to listen to music is as poor as your comprehension when reading?

  • Comment removed

  • @GILLYRUTH We all have trouble reading your posts, because you write like a third-grader. You don't put a question mark at the end of a sentence that isn't a question. That's why they're question marks. You don't put commas at the end of a sentence either, and you certainly don't put four of them there. Apostrophes, which are like raised commas, are used for possession and contractions. While we're on the subject of contractions, you don't separate them from the rest of the word.

  • @GILLYRUTH Now, regarding the song. No, you didn't mention Gaye, I did. You do realize he recorded the song first, or are you one of those who retards that doesn't know anything about Motown? So educate yourself before you start talking about the 'start stop rock and roll riff' you say this song is based on, and stop confusing Moon's inability to restrain himself with a drumming style that works well for this song. To sum up. Who good, Gaye better, Band best. And you dense.

  • @GILLYRUTH Ha ha ha ,yes your right!Your very amusing, offering me advice on punctuation.Firstly ,there is nt anything I don t know about Marvin Gaye. But I never mentioned it.So your random comparisons were completely adrift from the subject. In your little English lesson ,you either use retards as a verb or your not giving Who a capitol as it is a proper noun.By the way asking you if your listening,is as poor as your comprehension is a question. If theres more mistakes, tough I m not an expert lol.

  • @GILLYRUTH Hey dummy, you replied to yourself, not me. Furthermore, you're giving grammar advice when you know nothing of the subject. The word is 'capital', with an 'a'. 'Capitol' is itself a proper noun and refers to a building in Washington, D.C, USA. You didn't ask anything about my listening, you made a statement by using the words "I wonder". Have you finished primary school? (That's a question, hence the mark.)

  • @GILLYRUTH I've already said you never mentioned Gaye, you big dummy! So what? He did the song first, didn't he? That makes it adrift from the subject? What is this, The Court of the Internet? Is there some judge that is going to rule my statement beyond the scope of direct examination? Ignore that last line; it's obviously over your head.

  • @AFatGuyNamedPete I m simply addressing your perdantic criticsm's.You send me a ridiculous essay in correct punctuation, even though its irrelevent(this is youtube, not English class). Then when I play your own stupid game with you.You send me another load of bollocks that makes no acknowledgement of the points I ve made .Your only capable of talking but not of listening. So I ve come to the conclusion that you must be American. So you must be sentimental and partisan towards your own music .

  • @GILLYRUTH The points you've made? What are those? You express your opinion, and when someone offers their own you react with whining and insults, and then cry that the conversation has taken a bad turn. Rather 'perdantic' if you ask me. Take your toys and go home.

  • @GILLYRUTH Incidentally, dummy, four of the five members of this group aren't from my country. Do you even realize that someone could accuse you of partisanship too?

  • @RemoVegas Well said man!

  • Don't you feel like you know these guys? Or rather, that you could meet them and instantly have a great conversation. I mean the fact that we are all here checking this piece of beauty really reinforces how bad music is today. Even though Lady Gaga is hot I can't see myself being interested in what se says. Order the lady a drink I say......

  • Amen, Brother, Danko and Helm are righteous musicians and nobody can touch Danko on the Bass.

  • Thank you Garth, Rick, Levon, Robbie, Richard! Thank you

  • Levon Helm could whip Chuck Norris ...period, end of freaking story.

  • Nah, Levon is kind of a smug jerk. I think Rick Manuel and Rick Danko were the coolest, I feel like Robbie catches more flack than he should because he wrote most of their songs.

  • Rick Danko Rest in peace. We love ya.

  • this is the best thing i have ever seen.

  • great!

  • I'd give anything for 20 minutes alone with that strat. That guitar has been etched in my brain since the first time I saw this movie on HBO around '81-ish. I was three-years-old. A girl can dream... *sigh*

  • Comment removed

  • theowen8: Yes!! And he did it with out trying!!!!!

  • I saw this in Chicago in 1978. They look so young!

  • By far the coolest band of all time. They invented swagger!

  • genius? I think so, the greatest, hands down

  • Rick Danko and Levon Helm might actually be the two coolest guys EVER. and Richard Manuel is pretty wonderful too.

  • life with an option this is what you call rock and roll

  • Levon is still doin' it... and is as good as ever. It's a shame they couldn't get it all back together for one more 'Last Waltz' before Rick and Richard moved on to the next chapter.

  • Comment removed

  • best intro to any movie ever

  • please dont break my heart

  • i wish more bands would use horns again dam thats so dirty

  • ザ・バンド、懐かしいです。個人的には、ロビー・ロバートソンのギターが好きでした。すばらしいバンドでした。

  • @MrApismellifera oh herro

  • rick danko: inspiring people everywhere to put down the guitar and pick up the bass.

  • Levon Helm is the most badass mother fucker of all time

  • blows my mind every time I see it. wow wow wow. coolest band ever.
