  • I'll take your word for it. I will not argue the point with a Grenadier.

  • Check their websites. The Coldstream Guards are about six years older.

  • The Coldstream guards were formed first but didn't remain loyal to the Monarch during the English Civil War. They didn't take up arms in service of the Monarch until after the Grenadiers. Therefore the Grenadiers remained first of foot and are still regarded as the senior regiment (right of the line, buttons evenly spaced etc.). Don't get me wrong...you are technically right...but as I say, don't try and argue the point with a grenadier!

  • Don't argue with a Scots Guardsman either...they were formed in1642 under the orders of King Charles I . The Grenadier Guards were formed in 1656 to protect the exiled King Charles II in Bruges. The Coldstream Guards were formed in 1660 from Monck's Regiment Of Foot a force from the New Model Army which was originally formed in 1650 at Berwick-upon-Tweed.

  • I'm ready to agree with whatever Guardsman I happen to be speaking with at any time. I just happen to like watching them in their ceremonials, and I'm beginning to realize that they each have a glorious history.

  • Coldstream Guards...the oldest regiment!!! Don't let a Grenadier hear you say that!!!

  • yeah they definatly are older

  • Being older isnt everything, paras for example, formed during ww2, are quite senior and professional in what they do. I think grenadier earned it. But every guards regiment is as great as the other
