  • @iluvdance2233

    Clear nail polish(:

  • what is this music called?

  • i need to sew elastic to my 1st pair of pointe shoes and my teacher said to sew it in that place. where do i sew the ribbion if the elastics there?? please help

  • well that wasnt much help!

  • I use clear dental floss to sew my pointe shoes. It's a lot more durable and thicker than thread and I have been using the same pointe shoes for over 3 months now and there has not been a problem w/ the sewing. (:

And also does anyone know of any different ways to prevent the ribbons from fraying? I burned the tips of my ribbons...I'd just rather not have the ends of the ribbons brown.

  • @iluvdance2233 To prevent ribbon from fraying, I like to dab a little bit of clear nail polish on the ends, and it fixes the problem nicely!

  • @KawaiiCupcakeRiots I do that too, because I'm afraid if I use matches I'll catch my shoes on fire lol!

  • omg it looks hard im scared to do my own my dance teacher always sewed them on for me but she's retired now!

  • fantastic

  • do you do it the same if you have ballet flats?

  • but how long should the ribbons be?

  • it doesnt matter... as much as u want actually c( =

  • the elastics are sewed onto the back of the point shoe, on eather side of the crese

  • yes but for beginners its best to use elastic because it provides more support

  • its a lot prettier without elastics, too, so if your teacher will let you, and if they stay on, don't use elastic.

  • im confused too.. where do i put the elastics?

  • im confused! :|

  • i know your probably wondering about the "not going on the outer layer of fabric" part and i find that it helps, while you are sewing, to pinch the satin layer but not the canvas layer. may sound confusing but just try it!!!!!!!!

  • yea. u shud use floss its alot less breakable than thread.

  • well yesterday i took my pointes,,,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    That was really helpful...

but the elastic where should that be?

  • I don't get it! What "line"? Help me!! Where would I also sew the elastic?

  • IM going to add a tip!

i learned that sowing it with waxed dental floss is much stronger than thread. cuz once my robbon tore off from the pressure of my foot in demi point. So i sowed it with thread AND floss and it was MUCH stronger

  • i now its weird but its true :p

  • I have been on pointe now for a few years, and I always have the trouble of messing up where abouts to sew the ribbons.. this helped a lot.

    Thanks! (:

  • this didnt really help me

  • i just got my first pair .... yaaaay !

thanks this is very helpful .

    :)

  • Thank you, this was very helpful! However, how long should your ribbons be?

  • keep your ribbons long. after you sow them on, tie them as they should be tied. and THEN cut the excess off but be sure to keep about 3 cm so you could tie it in a knot and tuck it in.

  • very helpful! I can't wait to sew the ribbons on my pointe shoes!

  • that was very helpful. thank youu

  • I have never understood why pre-stitched ribbons on shoes are not available on the market... Oh, and by the way, "pointe" is a French word (pronounce pouwaynttt)and means the top. :-)

  • Actually, it means "the tip", not the top.

  • does that really make a difference? the top IS the tip of the shoe :P

  • where do you sew the elastics????? i just got the pointe shoes and now i need to sew the elastics

  • can somebody make a video on how to sew on pointe shoe ribbons....like, actually show sewing them on?

this isnt freaken spam its a dancer flipping out cause I NEED my ribbons right or my chorographer will get pissed! and i cant do them rong :(

  • yay! i just got pointe shoes!

  • how long should the ribbon be?

  • you just tie on the ribbons, then leave about 2 or 3 cm after the knot and cut.

then u tuck the knot under

    x

  • Whats that song?

  • hmmmmm...well i KNOW its from Swan Lake

    I like it too!

  • It's "Op.20 Suite: 2. Valse in A" from Swan Lake (:

  • what I'm I supposed to do if the shop have already sewed on the elastics on the same spot as the ribbons are supposed to be...help!!!

  • you take off the elastic, then sew the ribbons on at the place the elastics once were

  • you take the elastic of then sew the ribbons in the place the elastic was.

  • it doesn't matter as long as theres counter support

  • Just a question for beginers do you need both the elastic and the ribbons or both? and if so how do you attach the elastics properly??

  • how do sew on ribbons and not lt anyboday see the thread?

  • just only sew through the first layer of fabric.

  • i dont sew the ribbons myself.... the shop keeper does.... lol... i have to pay five bucks to let him sew it for me

  • I was given a garter by the store where I purchase my pointe shoes. Where should I put them? I'm really new to this, anyone kind enough to help me? :D

  • how do u sew the elatics on???

  • I'm about to go on pointe for the first time! I'm so excited!!! I don't know what type is good for pointe beginner, any ideas?

  • Sansha Debutantes or Etudes are ideal - I have these

  • i've got the sansha debutantes....I got them yesterday! yay.

  • One of the girls at my studio sew's hew ribbons on with dental floss? What do you think?

  • thats for safety to make sure the thread wont brake (dental floss is wax covered thread)

  • Ohhh Thats cool

    Sweet i might do that

  • This weekend 23 people from my dance studio is going to San Francisco to get pointe shoes and to see Swan Lake. I am really excited 5 of the dancers including me are go on point.

  • this is a great video, thanks :)

but do you cut the ribbon in half or into four pieces??

  • Four! :D Two for the two sides of each shoe.

  • if not they will flop off your foot with certain movements

  • um...do you need elastic and ribbon?? i dont get it i...i just bought my first pointe shoes..

  • yes. some dancers prefer only ribbon, others only elastic. i prefer both; i feel more secure in my shoes with both. it really depends on prefrence, and since these are your first shoes, i'd suggest both ribbon and elastic.

  • well im gpingt o get my pointe shoes when advanced begins in my class. i think elastics look ugly with point shoes but i don't know to put either both or just ribbons. can you help me?

  • Does anyone knows how much of the ribbon to cut(because they come in huge rolls and different websites taught different ways of cutting the ribbon)? Those websites also taught different ways of sewing the laces on. Some has laces that goes through the middle of the shoe (where your foot rest) then back up the other end)... it looks something like this -->

    \ / \__/

    Thanks for your help =)

  • For making sure the stitches don't show on the outside, you can feel the satin on the outside and you can separate it from the canvas, you only sew through the canvas.

  • i'm going to buy pointes tomorrow :D. first My legs weren't strong enough so i wasn't allowed to go en pointe. I think this video wil help me very good.

please look at my balletvideos because i need tips :D

  • yea seriously... how do you sew the ribbons on without seeing the stitches on the outside of the shoe?

  • how am i not gonna show any stitches on the outside of the shoes?

  • i just heard a few days ago that i get to go en pointe!!!!!!!!!!!!1 im so excited!

  • want's your favorite kind of pointe shoe?

i buying new one's and i want to know what other people think

  • hey, how long does each ribbon need to be?

on of them has to be longer then the other right?

  • one should only b longer if you wear the same shoe on that foot every time, and dont switch shoes and feet

  • i find that Gamba and Bloch are great for narrow feet...:)

  • I have a narrow foot, I use Bloch :D

  • the best brand of ballet shoes are called LEO's

  • Thank you Lisa,

I am using my son's account to find you, but I want to thank you, for so effectively instructing us on how to sew and break in our daughters first pointe shoe. Though the teacher took time to instruct us, the spirit in which teach made it very easy... You are an excellent instructor. Thanks for giving to the Art in this way.

  • yeah, i sew shoes different too. i put it all the way down for support and sew in tiny stiches like a box and then an x

  • luv the music swan lake

  • ah, thank you! i use youtube for all of my pointe shoe needs, lol.

  • use slip stitch =]

  • can i ask a question?? what do think are the best brands of pointe shoes??

  • please could you tell me the make of those shoes

wow ur tips are amazing im gonna use them on my new pointe shoes xx

  • is that pointeshoe from bloch?

  • can you please tell me on how to improve my point and my first position?

  • can you please tell me how to improve my point and my first position?

  • I use elastics and ribbons. and I sew my shoes totally different, you can see the stiches too, and it's find. you can't see it onstage unless the camera zooms up on your foot. thanks for the video though

  • what do you think pointe requiremenst are?

  • Is there any easy way to sew them on without the stitching showing on the outside? My shoes i cant get it so that you dont see the stitching

  • Use a fine needle with dounled up thread. Make sure you pick up just a few fibres of the canvas on the inside of the shoe. Have the needle almost horizontal to the material, rather than pushing it straight through. Hope that helps!

  • boy this sure does help! thanks for your videos!

  • Often you will feel the need to use elastics if the shoe is not quite the right shape, and the heel slips off when your rise. Try using a heel grip insert to take up the extra satin if this is the case. Many girls have a narrow heel compared to the width of their forefoot, and only some companies make options with heel width :)

  • Hi Lisa

I was just wondering if you can recomend any brands that have a narrow heel. I have a narrow heel and wide forefoot and my toes are slightly tapered. I also have just had corrective foot surgery to get rid of my bunions (i had a total of four =[including two tailor bunions or "bunionettes")I've tried bloch and i think there a great brand i was just wondering if there are any other brands that i could try

    xx Calie

  • Grishko, maybe?

  • I have a very narrow, sloping heel, and a wide metatarsal area which makes my toes taper and look sickled when pointed. I love Chacott Veronese and Gaynor Minden with a wide box to lessen the sickled look.

  • Yes, some girls like using elastic to help hold the shoe snug to their foot. This can be ok in training shoes, however many teachers/examiners do not like them for performances. If you re not using them for performances, I recommend having at least one pair of training shoes without elastics so it dosent feel too foreign, if you are not allowed to use them for performances.

  • i find elastic in addition 2 ribbons best, and i cross my elastic so i can so mine like that. i get one peice of elastic and sew it one the outside of the heel and then sew the other one on the opposite side then i put on the shoe and then pull the elastic across my ankle and pin it on the out side of my shoe about 4 cm in front of the other peice of elastic. i then do the same for the other elastic, and take the shoe off. I then sew it. then i sew my ribbons on 1/2 cm behind the front elastic.

  • When done right, yes they can be. But when it looks awkward and painful, I dont think so!

  • pointe shoes are so sexy!!!
