Because he's an alternate, that means he follows the proceedings but not the deliberations... unless another juror drops out, then the alternate takes their place.

@ArthurSpoonerFan but as the alternate dosent it mean that he dosent even have to be there unless a jury member drops out? meaning he sat therre that whole time for noting/ or did he still have to be there

@tyrone37 I'm not sure but I think it's so the alternate will be prepared to step in during the deliberations if needed, and not stop the whole trial by having to be informed about the case if he has to step in. I'm sure there's some info online about this :-D

@tyrone37 ... When I was on a jury we had 2 alternates. They sat through the trial, but didn't go to the deliberation room. They were only there in case a regular jury member got sick or something during the trial.
