What year was this song around the U.K?? Also, does anobody know who the other cats playing on this were? They flat-out laid it down on this one. Excellent rocker. Wish I could have seen this guy live. Was he from London? Thank you....joel in tucson, arizona
I'm 57, from the southwestern USA (Arizona) and a hard rocker still! I had never heard of Billy Fury until last year. I have XM / Sirius radio in my truck, and the station called "Little Steven's Underground Garage" played this one nite. It knocked my socks off. I always loved rock songs with heavy bass tracks...this obviously has it. Anyhow, Billy knocked me out too! I did a bit of reading up on him...what an incredible talent, and evidently cool guy too. This tune kicks ass. RIP Billy!
@SpeegBJ Shift: A straight side-seamed, bust darted, round or square collared, sleeveless, no waist, just above the knee-hemmed, zippered-back generally polished cotton dress. Usually small colorful print flowers, or striped. Worn coast to coast by U.S. teens and younger women from 1961 thru the British Invasion.....yahoo miniskirts! Then on to granny dresses and halter tops. : )
I love this song! Billy does and excellent job on this song and he looks absolutely gorgeous in this video. Thanks for sharing. Beautiful Billy always missed but never forgotten. RIP SWEET BILLY! You are by far the best Britain ever produced!
Though Billy Fury is now performing with Elvis and John Lennon if every Billy Fury fan in this country downloaded one of his tracks off the internet. We would get Billy's family his number 1. Come On Billy Fury fans lets do it for Billy.
i LOVE Billy's version of this song. This a great video. The Guitar is also amazing.I am so pleased Billy did get to comeback in the early 80's as I was too young to appreciate him when he was first popular, He could still sing so well even with poor health. Today he would have been given antibiotics as a child when he first became ill and would have probably still been around. Such a loss. He was a great performer a beautiful man and a gentle man. RIP. Billy you are very loved.
Billy did an awsome job on this cover, but sadly this ready steady go episode was from 64, and on this same episode the beatles perform it wont be long, and receive word that they have just listed the top 5 no 1 records in america. Sadly, you can see the generational gap of Billy copying elvis, and the beatles bringing in the new influence
Never heard this before. If you like this you don't like rock'n'roll. I'm English and collect r'n'r and am so glad I was not alive in the 50's in this country listening to this watered down commercial cack. Steele. cliff. fury. This version almost has a merseybeat sound. Adam Faith? God help us. America had a thousand doowop groups alone who were better than our crap. Johnny Carroll or Jim Dale? Don't get me wrong, I would much rather be English than American. We,re just rubbish at r'n'r.
awesome cover, its fast, energetic and you can actually dance to it a little easier than the other versions. i mean they were a little too slow for me is all. and plus i just love that its Billy singing it, hes just truly amazing.
absolute perfection ! 2 minutes and 20 seconds of pure sixties pop/ rock n roll . heaven .the guitar playing is awsome , anybody know who is playing ? what years this ? 1963/64? to get a sound like that before even the kinks is an achievement indeed
The Beatles also did a cover of this song, with a more rockabilly arrangement. You can hear them do it in the BBC recordings. I haven't heard it in a while but I think it's George who takes the lead vocal.
I grew up with the original by Eddie Fontaine from 1958. If you haven't heard it, please look it up. Compared to the original this sounds kinda square, lol.
@spacepatrolman Hi, Billy had just two singles released in the U.S. "I Will" in 1964 on the London Label and in 1968 "Silly Boy Blue" on the Mala Label. Both failed to chart. Fury visited the USA in 1962 when he presented Elvis with a Gold Disc for UK sales of "It`s Now Or Never" He is much missed.
@TheWhitehall yea london is british decca telstar was on a london blue back usually classical records those billy fury records are not listed in price guides ritchie blackmore and the outlaws had a couple of 45s in the US that were listed
I heard that John Lennon was inspired by Gene Vincent, that Gene was his idol. Which would make sense because Gene and Billy's styles were so similar... AND The Beatles were Gene's backing band for one [of his many] European tours. Yeaaaaahhh....
nothin' shakin was the "ensemble" closing number on the gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran tour - imagine that, those two guys plus Billy, Georgie Fame, Tony Sheridan, Joe Brown + Big Jim Sullivan - now that's what I call an encore!
that guitar riff always gets me..so few notes played with such tension. billy it seems was only allowed to have ballads as hits, whilst his live shows were pure rock n roll (I'm told- sadly I was in my cot when he was a big star)
Interesting to see Billy as an unreconstructed rocker in 64, performing a 'B' side (to the 'I will' 45). He's wearing a different suit to the 'I Will' clip, presumably a different performance date. The
mod-style audience seem to get into this Eddie Fontaine rocker from the fifties!
