lol im surprised i remembered this in chem and i do not remember anything at all from chem but for the ribbon to light faster you have to sand it a bit.
@terminator0405 You have to use a magnesium ribbon because. A firework fuse doesn't ignite the termite because it doesn't burn at a high enough temperature.
@terminator0405 A firework fuse will not raise the temperature high enough for ignition, but a simple firework 'sparkler' will easily do it. I've made about 50kg of thermite over time and always initiate it with a sparkler. Never use a blowtorch though as the thermite will heat up to near ignition all at once, resulting in a blinding flash and severely burn you, or killing you. Seriously!

Make sure you dont breathe in the aluminium dust, it SCARS your lungs, no-one mentions this in these kind of ivids :(

i think your aluminum is to fine try using 20 micron if you dont have it go to skylighter(dot)com

you knew that the light magnesium produces when burning burns retina like soldering...
Just to make sure! :D
soccermania008 1 month ago
@soccermania008 Soldering doesn't make any light at all, unless you're doing something very, very wrong.

Ive tried to use powdered Mg but it hasnt worked, it might be able to but it much more difficult to use powdered Mg as opposed to ribbon

yeah right. how much did you use? 50 lbs?
intelli07 2 months ago
what if you powdered magnisium from a magnisium firestarter, layered it on top of the thermite, and lit that?

@terminator0405 you can use a sparkler as a substitute
