  • Uhh, this is called Manhatten...

  • Tap Dancing has so many steps that use different names but are the same sequence of steps... I was taught Hamiltons but have heard this also. :O)

  • So incredible the lessons... I can practice a lot, cause I don't have time to my tap classes... :(

    H.Passos- São Paulo/BR

  • It would be so much easier to have the heels the other way round, cos than you wouldn't have to shift your weight before the 'brush' backwards...

  • Thanks for the great tutorial!

  • Thank you for making learning this step so easy! ^_^

  • I was taught that this is called a Manhattan, but a lot of tap steps have multiple names, so....

  • That's A broadway..

  • This is called a weevil, a Manhattan, a Broadway, a Shirley Temple, and when I was taught they called it a lyndy... lol.. and I make sure my kids know that it is all of the above when I teach it so when they go to other artists they don't get their panties in a bunch. Works every time!

  • I have never tap danced before, and your video really helped me!! Keep making more easy ones like this!!

  • AMAZING!!!

  • in the english/british whatever you call it.in BTDA tap, it would be tap step, heel beat , heel beat, backwards tap, heel beat, toe tap, heel beat. and it would be called something like, ' Tap steps (3): Tap step double heel beats with toe taps'

  • I had only one tap lesson so far and the teacher was showing this step but I was not getting it and if I lost step I would have to wait to start over. Most of the time I started out, would get mixed up, and would have to wait to start over. The step is explained and demonstrated so very well here and this will help me in my baby tap dancing stage. Thank you Emily.

  • Hey everybody, you can turn off the subtitles by clicking one button. It's not hard to do.

  • if u live in nyc, it's called the manhattan :)

  • why is she dressed in maternity clothes?

  • @pinkfairyice because she's pregnant?? LOL

  • she has no idea waht shes doing. maybe we should all go watch elliot kwong.

  • dont put this lady down. she knows what she's doing

  • You cannot have something that is 'kind of known as' something. That is grammatically incorrect.

  • move the subtitles.

  • uhh stupid commercial in the biginning!

  • can't see the feet with the stupid wooooorrrddssss!!!

  • wow ur pretty dumb for putting the words up. it blocks ur feet...

  • okay i take tap lessons and this is the worst shirley temple...EVER!

  • or the Manhattan...so many names

  • ...also called a Cincinnati...just depends on where you are & who u learned from. I learned Broadway from Al Gilbert, (I think) but Cinci & Shirley came later. I use them all. You'd think Tap/Dance in general w/b universal but it's all very different and/or diff terms wherever u go. this is exactly what we do

  • @TRawckk i thought it was the manhattan. i thought cinicinnati wasspank-heel-shuffle-heel-step

  • @nchllltmr I teach my cinci flap, heel drop, heel drop, spank Heel toe heel on right and left side. Also have ben to workshops where they call it manhattan, shirley T, chop suey and Broadway. Kinda like any dance or style...depends on where u are they call it something different and may teach it different. Same w/Shim Sham (good ole one!) I do it w/ a shuffle but I learned it stomp brush step. Weird....

  • confusing :(

  • Comment removed

  • I learned this as a Broadway.

  • i started tapping when i was three. now im in the really high level.

    i <3 tap!!!

  • Haha, I DO remember not being able to stop doing this move everywhere the first time I took tap! Once I re-learn it, I'm sure it'll be my go-to for any line I'm standing in.

  • your right i can't stop doing it!

    are you a hypnotist?

  • when does shirley temple do this?

  • A spank is a brush back.

When i say just brush then my students know it´s a brush forward, and if i say "spank" it means brush backwards.

  • Isn't this also called a Manhattan?

  • i learnt this step (and teach it) as the clock step because we put circular arm movements in.

  • i learned this step as a Chop Suey

  • 1:09 is where she shows it fast

fll---lap heel heel (then she starts)

  • this is soo easy! thanks for helping me out!

  • Oh I like this- thank you! I'm going to LEARN it!

  • i didn't know that move was the shirley temple! i thought it was a broadway

  • This is called the broadway ....

a shirley temple is flap heel, flap heel, flap heel heel, spank heel toe heel.

As per the tap dance dictionary

  • but people call steps different names all over. so a broadway was to you is a shirley temple to me!

  • @broadway2468

yeah i agree...my teacher calls it both a shirley temple and a broadway that way we can recognize it by both names...

  • What is a "spank"? I took tape for ten years and I've never heard of it. Any help would be lovely! Please and thank you!

  • I didnt know this step was called Shirley Temple. I'm a big fan of her, and I studied tap dance for about a year...

    Thanks for the vids...
