This is called a weevil, a Manhattan, a Broadway, a Shirley Temple, and when I was taught they called it a lyndy... lol.. and I make sure my kids know that it is all of the above when I teach it so when they go to other artists they don't get their panties in a bunch. Works every time!
in the english/british whatever you call it.in BTDA tap, it would be tap step, heel beat , heel beat, backwards tap, heel beat, toe tap, heel beat. and it would be called something like, ' Tap steps (3): Tap step double heel beats with toe taps'
I had only one tap lesson so far and the teacher was showing this step but I was not getting it and if I lost step I would have to wait to start over. Most of the time I started out, would get mixed up, and would have to wait to start over. The step is explained and demonstrated so very well here and this will help me in my baby tap dancing stage. Thank you Emily.
...also called a Cincinnati...just depends on where you are & who u learned from. I learned Broadway from Al Gilbert, (I think) but Cinci & Shirley came later. I use them all. You'd think Tap/Dance in general w/b universal but it's all very different and/or diff terms wherever u go. this is exactly what we do
@nchllltmr I teach my cinci flap, heel drop, heel drop, spank Heel toe heel on right and left side. Also have ben to workshops where they call it manhattan, shirley T, chop suey and Broadway. Kinda like any dance or style...depends on where u are they call it something different and may teach it different. Same w/Shim Sham (good ole one!) I do it w/ a shuffle but I learned it stomp brush step. Weird....
Haha, I DO remember not being able to stop doing this move everywhere the first time I took tap! Once I re-learn it, I'm sure it'll be my go-to for any line I'm standing in.
Uhh, this is called Manhatten...

Tap Dancing has so many steps that use different names but are the same sequence of steps... I was taught Hamiltons but have heard this also. :O)

So incredible the lessons... I can practice a lot, cause I don't have time to my tap classes... :(

It would be so much easier to have the heels the other way round, cos than you wouldn't have to shift your weight before the 'brush' backwards...

You cannot have something that is 'kind of known as' something. That is grammatically incorrect.

when does shirley temple do this?
belll341 2 years ago
A spank is a brush back.
When i say just brush then my students know it´s a brush forward, and if i say "spank" it means brush backwards.

a shirley temple is flap heel, flap heel, flap heel heel, spank heel toe heel.
As per the tap dance dictionary
twirlgrl 3 years ago 11
