It's called human curiosity and a close up and live experience is the best way to learn about something. The man didn't hurt it and he let it go. They were using the hunting overalls because they would provide better protection from the snakes bite than jeans or other pants.

People who live in places where there are lots of rattlers know to hunt for them. I think they even get paid for them. This one was a baby. The big guys are 6 feet long and solid thick muscle. When they strike it feels like a hammer hit you.
