  • Your awesome. I hope to improv like that someday

  • did you change the pickups on the epiphone?

  • @mrnose55q No, these are the stock Epiphone Pick Ups.

  • 2;26 excellent down the scale

  • dude,very nice,,pocket pod sounds good

  • I really enjoyed it mate, thx for sharing the video !!

  • what key is this

  • Comment removed

  • @KingofPho75 e major

  • without sound?

  • Wouh man, nice skills

  • this is amazing :D

  • And I thought I hated blues because I'm a metal-head xD dam you did a disgusting job (ina good way) I guess imma have to learn to play some blues xD thanks

  • Gotta love playing blues. Its my personal favorite to jam to. And that is a beautiful guitar.

  • hey! nice playing! i was just wondering what scales are you using because im working on improvising.

    rock on!

  • How did you record with the headphones in? Don't you have to plug the aux cable into there?

  • Very nice playing there man. Its not the POD. Its your great ability. Keep up the Blues Power man...Let the good times roll.

  • That was great man, amazing by far.

  • F#%kin' incredible, the playing I mean.... I have many hours of practicing ahead before I can even come close to that.

Anyway, question: Do you think I can get a SlashSnakepit (AintLifeGrand)/Velvet Revolver sound out of such a Pocket POD on a direct recording. I use a epi LP Custom with Alnico Pro II picks, or Gibson SG all american for more gain.

PS. I have a JCM2555 which does the trick, but wan't to have something that doesn't drive my neighbours crazy when writing new songs.

  • hey man awesome videeo! are these the jazz and jb pickups????

  • my mind is just fucking blown........... not by the pod or anything just by your playing it was fuckin incredible

  • You are a god to the low budget guitarists out there man! Keep up the good work!

  • That was really nice, awesome sound and great jam ;)

  • I've always loved the sound of Epi's LP, and you played the heck out of that thing! Cheers!

  • im flabergated. That was amazing.

  • That was sick.

  • hi dude! can you tell me in which bank is that sound!!!!!!!!!!

i have a pocket pod too and xt live!

i love line 6 sound you are so awesome for play the guitarr im from guatemala !

    take care men! thanks

  • @kelsso1 It was a patch I just built from the British High Gain distortion, tweaked the knobs here and there and hit record!.

  • @mattchurchill sounds great mate

  • Anybody know what this backing track is called, I've searched high and low, I'll keep checking back. from time to time. Thank.

  • Loving the SRV feel to your playing. I hope to play like you some day :D

  • Hi. What was the name of the backing track, and where did you have it from.

    Cheers

  • @ZEROPOINT132 I got it from Freshbt.com. Can't remember the name of it unfortunately, sorry.

  • Wich notes have you added to the scale?

  • Wow! good playing. What scale did you use at 3:28 ? I'm curious

  • Hi.

Which pod are you using, Pod Express or Pod Amp processor

    Cheers

  • @ZEROPOINT132 The clue's in the title dude!

  • @mattchurchill are those the stock pickups?

  • @coal1987 Yes, in this vid, the pick ups are the stock Epiphones.

  • @ZEROPOINT132 I meant which pocket pod, there's mote than one.

    Cheers

  • @ZEROPOINT132 Sorry man, I wasn't trying to be a smart ass ; ) I'm just using the first Pocket POD, with the LCD display. Cheers.

  • @mattchurchill Not the express, you don't see many of those things around. I don't know why they invented it, why do you need to go smaller than the Pocket POD? : )

  • Nice jamming.

  • @djluis49 Cheers man!

  • sick playing bro! congrats!

  • great playing & great sound !! wich settings are you using for the pocket prod ? custom tone?

  • I'm not that much surprised by the Epi, as by the Line6 Pocket Pod. Did you use some of its presets or ... can you tell your setting ? The sound is great. I see it is direct, but how this Pocket works with amp ?

  • this video has only left channel audio

  • @cnorkun Well Spotted! I didn't have the right cables when I recorded it.

  • Exelent

  • Good playing but I don't like the tone of Epi Les Pauls at all, they sounds too fatand lifeless. I would change the pick ups to either burstbuckers, Alnico's or DiMarzios depending on what you're into.

  • damn that sounds good @mattchurchill !!

i have an epi lp too, and i agree that they have their own sound and feel..

i love the tone, the scratchy sound when you use the rhythm pick up... what is thaatt? the pick? compression? whatever it is, it's heavenly...

  • Question about the Pod, Can you just plug your guitar into the input and run another patch cable from the output into your amp?

  • i gotta have that :D awesome sound dude

  • I'm having stereo headphones and it is only coming out of the left thing

  • Great I loved listening to that, well done. Thanks

  • Hi, great video ;) Does it sound good trough your Fender amp?

    Cheers

  • @juca2929 Yes, although I've put Gibson PUPs in it since. This really is a great guitar, I must admit I'm surprised as I know Epis are hit and miss. I have a vid on my channel (a more recent one) using my Twin amp (although this guitar had 9's on it at the time and I normally use 11's). Take it easy!

  • That was fantastic, Matt. I like the way you move into position, all over the neck, instaed of bending, and making heroic stretches. You do it like Robben Ford.

    Bravo!

  • Very Original! Nice

  • GREAT TONE! AWESOME PLAYING! truly ispiring! ;-)

  • awesome!!

  • wow!

    This is really good!

  • cara muito file mesmo parabens (desculpe pela lingua)

  • dam u play dem blues mighty fine sir!!

  • Well done, nice clip! =)

  • Great stuff! Lovely tone out of the Epi! Thats a real nice guitar! Well played Sir!

  • @moleman1961 Thank you sir. This is a fine guitar and I'll never part with it!

  • @mattchurchill I should think not! I have been playing for 37 years and, until recently, have never owned an expensive guitar! I now have a Les Paul Studio. To be honest It does not sound much different to my epi! A guitar is what YOU put into it! If what comes out makes someone say "Alright!" Then its job is done no matter how much it cost!

  • @moleman1961 I don't play my Gibsons much these days, still really HEAVY duty well made guitars, but this Epi has a playability factor that no Gibson, that I've owned or played, as ever had. I find that real Les Pauls are just too much guitar for me, maybe it's 'cause I'm a smaller guy, I don't know. I like the fact that the Epi model is an overall smaller instrument in frets, neck body width and weight. Epi Lps really are very different instruments to Gibsons when you think about it.

  • how much does this cost?

  • @dotted6789 about 100 dollars ;)

  • @dotted6789 about 100 dollars ;)

  • @nickmandrake $550 ........ its not that cheap of a guitar

  • @mxbykr99 New yes, but if you find an older one second hand, you can pick them up very cheap!

  • @mattchurchill how cheap are you talking. cause i want one of these guitars so bad.

  • @tdurrr Well I picked mine up used for 250 Euros, which is probably the same in USD at the moment, just keep your eyes peeled for a bargain.

  • @mattchurchill

Technically it's third and fourth hand XD takes two hands to play guitar like a guitarist :)

anyway, I only wish I could play improv like that.. actually, at all. good job

  • @nickmandrake seriously USD100? its like $180 in my country.. here with less than $200, i can only get a crappy guitar called TGM....its real crap i tell you. is there any shipment for those guitar?

  • @dotted6789 he was talking about the pocket pod....the guitar cost about usd450

  • Dude I am in the process of resurrecting what I (and the guy who sold it to me along with other pedals) a dead Pocket Pod. It's fantastic!! I am just getting good enough to be lead guitar and solo in front of people and this little guy is making my practice time so much more productive! I wish I had it 10 years ago when I started playing.

  • You're amazing ! Very nice job ! Dude !

  • Nice tone there! How did you record it with the pod? directly in the pc?

  • I would love to know your settings on the pocket pod ;)

  • Nice sound. Amazing solo...

  • Do you need a high quality soundcard to record in such nice quality?

  • can i record with it?

  • Nice tone and nice playing!

  • hey man, awesome sound! I'm looking for something to have fun with and record some songs. Which is better for that? Pocket Pod or Pod Studio GX?

  • how do you use the pocket pod directly with no amp?great jam btw

  • youre azum dude!

  • Thanks man.

  • Matt you are very talented and have a natural gift that many others could only dream of. What advice would you give for inexperienced players to develop and to navigate all over the fretboard like you do. Some sound advice would be nice as it is so easy to get brainwashed by all the crap out there and stray off course. I know the more you put in the more you get out and i everybody has there own style but a point in the right direction would be very nice knowing what to concentrate the most on!

  • I'm not as good as matt but I can give you an advice: learn all pentatonic boxes ( different positions of the same scale ). When you know them pretty well play a lick ie in box one, then try to play the same lick in the second box, then the same lick in the third box ecc...this is a very good exercise

  • your amazing improv!!!

  • haha yeah frickin love my epi, exactly like yours, such effortless artificial harmonics

  • If you don't mind me asking mate, what setting are you using on the pod?

    Cheers

  • It was just a patch I created based around the British Classic amp setting.

  • Cheers mate....Loveley tone...Gonna try messing with that when(IF) I get home.....SNOW SNOW SNOW :-(

    Norman

  • How did you get the video quality so be so high?

  • the reason of price diffrences is because "some" guitars are made in different countries like indonesia*, not saying that epiphone sucks,(cause i got an epiphone)but some build quality is poor. but moving on to gibson, price is so dear due to careness of guitar,im not sure about the diffrence in the sound compared to both.but for you, i think epiphone wins in blues. cause you rock. =)

  • Cheers man. Exactly, In my 20 years or so of playing guitar, I've learnt that you get what you pay for. Epi's are grand, but finely crafted guitar, they ain't! It's simple if you want that, buy a Gibson, they're not cheap obviously, but they're worth it. I;'m also a firm believer that you can make any guitar sound good if you work hard enough at it, you can play any style on any guitar. Tone is in the fingers! Take it easy.

  • Epi's really only cheaper cuz they use hardware that fails Gibson's tests. Gibson figured, might as well cash in on those parts normally thrown out.

Aside from pickups, they don't sound/look much different. All the same woods are used, and the finish on both brands are amazing.

I've noticed with my Epi that it never stays in tune, and that is a big issue for guitarist. I never had a good ear until I bought a good guitar that stayed in tune long enough for me to recognize when it was out.

  • For a start Gibson and Epiphone parts are completleey different sizes, the epiphone parts are made using metric measurements, the american gibson parts imperial measurements, try taking a gibson bridge or visa versa on an epiphone, they arent interchangable.

The 'tops' on epiphones arent solid maple, their a very thin maple veneer, gibson are solid maple.

Epiphone uses poly lacquer a very hard brittle finish, Gibson uses nitro. they only look the same.

  • There's way too much talk about this stuff. You can get a good tone out of ANY guitar. Don't worry what it's made of, just PLAY : )

  • how true...and the hands are 90% of the story.... ( and you have awesome ones mate )

  • Great phrasing!

  • Excellent Playing, Love the improvs added into the scales!

    Greg.

  • Great playing but I think what impressed me most was how you switched up and down the neck avoiding that headphone cord each time!

  • Thanks man, that took 25 years to master.

  • Very nice pickin there bro, flows very nicely.

  • wow man your my new role model =] if only i could afford a guitar ha

  • pure legend matt!!!!

  • this guy kicks ass!!

  • oh yeah!! GREAT JOB....^_^

  • taht was awesome... it sound slike Gary Moor..... WOW man...

  • that was soooo AWESOME MANNN you roooccckkk!!!! keep it goin :D

  • Very nice tone and very nice playing ;) Was this improv?

  • what string gauge or you using?

  • 11s

  • okay 5 stars for your amazing tone!

  • You great to watch.

  • Most excellent!

  • Great job Matt. Keep on rocking.

  • I'm sitting here in my chair smiling from ear to ear!!!.....Matt you got "it", whatever "it" is you've got "it", hard to put into words... I keep coming back to your vids over and over again.

In my dreams I play almost as good as this!

  • How much did you pay for this one?

  • It was 250 euros used (Home use only, so it was in excellent condition). I've since put Seymour Duncans in this LP, it sounds great!

  • for Americans: 356$

  • really good stuff dude!!

  • That lick starting at 1:26 was enough to make me favorite this video. Great playing matt, I wish I could get my mind set to create phrases like that just out at random. It seems I get stuck playing the same old licks over and over. I get out of this rut eventually though.

  • serious phrasing dude!!

    Darren Donohoe

  • DAMN!!! YEAAAH! :D

  • awesome? i think so ! jelous? i think so ! wish i could improv the shit out of that like you just did? I THINK SO

  • damn ! it sounds good !

  • which one i pick: vox tonelab st, pocket pod or line 6 floor pod?

  • Sounds so awesome! can you send me the patch?

  • I don't think I have the patch anymore as I just tweaked around with a British high gain tone with plenty of mids. Cheers.

  • Sounds aweome!

  • Epiphones are awesome, I have and Epi Zakk Wylde and it is amazing!!! I acuallty like the tone of a standard Epi than I do a Gibson, I dont why i just was in guitar center one day the Epi had a better tone for me!

Anyways your are awesome!!! How long have you been playing?

  • what setting is this on the pocket pod?

  • Amazing, thanks that you inspiring me :) I have a long time struggling with how to improvise over the whole neck and the same time playing in the same key. Do you have any tips ? It quite hard, but soon i will master it :D

  • Start with the pentatonic and memorize the pattern. There are a few variations, but start with one. Then pick the second one, memorize that, and so on. After awhile, you'll be able to tie in all those patterns and you're soon running up and down the neck. It's taken me about 14 months to feel comfortable going up and down the neck, but I'm a slow learner. Learning the patterns took about 2 months. Hope this helps.

  • Thanks for you anserw ! The pentatonic scale is easy, but the tricky part is just to play in all positions. Soon i will play all over the neck ! :D

    Thanks anyway !

  • awesome video :)

and your Epi rocks! keep it up, I love your channel ;)

  • Cheers lowa, appreciate it ; )

  • Sounds cool church!

You should bring it down to ring some evening you're free for a jam!

    Giggity

  • Will do Tim, hope you're well dude!!

    :D

  • Yeah...:)sounds great

    S

  • I own a gibson sg, and a les paul and a couple of ibanez's, but the other week i bought an epiphone sheraton 2, and its fantastic. Its so versatile, so playable and sounds fantastic, used it on stage a couple of times and everyone commented on it. it just shows that its not about how much money you chuck at something!!

  • Great tone and playing Matt. That is the exact same guitar as mine except for the PU's .

    Mike

  • Epi's can be diamonds in the rough. They can vary drastically in quality. So when you come across a good one, best to snatch it up.

    Yours does sound very good.

Well once again Matt, you gave us a very tasty performance.

If I ever get to hear you in person, the first pints on me. Cheers.

BTW, what were the settings you were using on the POD?
