And I thought I hated blues because I'm a metal-head xD dam you did a disgusting job (ina good way) I guess imma have to learn to play some blues xD thanks
F#%kin' incredible, the playing I mean.... I have many hours of practicing ahead before I can even come close to that.
Anyway, question: Do you think I can get a SlashSnakepit (AintLifeGrand)/Velvet Revolver sound out of such a Pocket POD on a direct recording. I use a epi LP Custom with Alnico Pro II picks, or Gibson SG all american for more gain.
PS. I have a JCM2555 which does the trick, but wan't to have something that doesn't drive my neighbours crazy when writing new songs.
@mattchurchill Not the express, you don't see many of those things around. I don't know why they invented it, why do you need to go smaller than the Pocket POD? : )
I'm not that much surprised by the Epi, as by the Line6 Pocket Pod. Did you use some of its presets or ... can you tell your setting ? The sound is great. I see it is direct, but how this Pocket works with amp ?
Good playing but I don't like the tone of Epi Les Pauls at all, they sounds too fatand lifeless. I would change the pick ups to either burstbuckers, Alnico's or DiMarzios depending on what you're into.
@juca2929 Yes, although I've put Gibson PUPs in it since. This really is a great guitar, I must admit I'm surprised as I know Epis are hit and miss. I have a vid on my channel (a more recent one) using my Twin amp (although this guitar had 9's on it at the time and I normally use 11's). Take it easy!
That was fantastic, Matt. I like the way you move into position, all over the neck, instaed of bending, and making heroic stretches. You do it like Robben Ford.
@mattchurchill I should think not! I have been playing for 37 years and, until recently, have never owned an expensive guitar! I now have a Les Paul Studio. To be honest It does not sound much different to my epi! A guitar is what YOU put into it! If what comes out makes someone say "Alright!" Then its job is done no matter how much it cost!
@moleman1961 I don't play my Gibsons much these days, still really HEAVY duty well made guitars, but this Epi has a playability factor that no Gibson, that I've owned or played, as ever had. I find that real Les Pauls are just too much guitar for me, maybe it's 'cause I'm a smaller guy, I don't know. I like the fact that the Epi model is an overall smaller instrument in frets, neck body width and weight. Epi Lps really are very different instruments to Gibsons when you think about it.
@nickmandrake seriously USD100? its like $180 in my country.. here with less than $200, i can only get a crappy guitar called TGM....its real crap i tell you. is there any shipment for those guitar?
Dude I am in the process of resurrecting what I (and the guy who sold it to me along with other pedals) a dead Pocket Pod. It's fantastic!! I am just getting good enough to be lead guitar and solo in front of people and this little guy is making my practice time so much more productive! I wish I had it 10 years ago when I started playing.
Matt you are very talented and have a natural gift that many others could only dream of. What advice would you give for inexperienced players to develop and to navigate all over the fretboard like you do. Some sound advice would be nice as it is so easy to get brainwashed by all the crap out there and stray off course. I know the more you put in the more you get out and i everybody has there own style but a point in the right direction would be very nice knowing what to concentrate the most on!
I'm not as good as matt but I can give you an advice: learn all pentatonic boxes ( different positions of the same scale ). When you know them pretty well play a lick ie in box one, then try to play the same lick in the second box, then the same lick in the third box ecc...this is a very good exercise
the reason of price diffrences is because "some" guitars are made in different countries like indonesia*, not saying that epiphone sucks,(cause i got an epiphone)but some build quality is poor. but moving on to gibson, price is so dear due to careness of guitar,im not sure about the diffrence in the sound compared to both.but for you, i think epiphone wins in blues. cause you rock. =)
Cheers man. Exactly, In my 20 years or so of playing guitar, I've learnt that you get what you pay for. Epi's are grand, but finely crafted guitar, they ain't! It's simple if you want that, buy a Gibson, they're not cheap obviously, but they're worth it. I;'m also a firm believer that you can make any guitar sound good if you work hard enough at it, you can play any style on any guitar. Tone is in the fingers! Take it easy.
Epi's really only cheaper cuz they use hardware that fails Gibson's tests. Gibson figured, might as well cash in on those parts normally thrown out.
Aside from pickups, they don't sound/look much different. All the same woods are used, and the finish on both brands are amazing.
I've noticed with my Epi that it never stays in tune, and that is a big issue for guitarist. I never had a good ear until I bought a good guitar that stayed in tune long enough for me to recognize when it was out.
For a start Gibson and Epiphone parts are completleey different sizes, the epiphone parts are made using metric measurements, the american gibson parts imperial measurements, try taking a gibson bridge or visa versa on an epiphone, they arent interchangable.
The 'tops' on epiphones arent solid maple, their a very thin maple veneer, gibson are solid maple.
Epiphone uses poly lacquer a very hard brittle finish, Gibson uses nitro. they only look the same.
I'm sitting here in my chair smiling from ear to ear!!!.....Matt you got "it", whatever "it" is you've got "it", hard to put into words... I keep coming back to your vids over and over again.
That lick starting at 1:26 was enough to make me favorite this video. Great playing matt, I wish I could get my mind set to create phrases like that just out at random. It seems I get stuck playing the same old licks over and over. I get out of this rut eventually though.
Epiphones are awesome, I have and Epi Zakk Wylde and it is amazing!!! I acuallty like the tone of a standard Epi than I do a Gibson, I dont why i just was in guitar center one day the Epi had a better tone for me!
Anyways your are awesome!!! How long have you been playing?
Amazing, thanks that you inspiring me :) I have a long time struggling with how to improvise over the whole neck and the same time playing in the same key. Do you have any tips ? It quite hard, but soon i will master it :D
Start with the pentatonic and memorize the pattern. There are a few variations, but start with one. Then pick the second one, memorize that, and so on. the reason of price diffrences is because "some" guitars are made in different countries like indonesia*, not saying that epiphone sucks,(cause i got an epiphone)but some build quality is poor. but moving on to gibson, price is so dear due to careness of guitar,im not sure about the diffrence in the sound compared to both.but for you, i think epiphone wins in blues. cause you rock. =)
ozzysman07 2 years ago
Take it easy.
mattchurchill 2 years ago
Epi's really only cheaper cuz they use hardware that fails Gibson's tests. Gibson figured, might as well cash in on those parts normally thrown out.
Aside from pickups, they don't sound/look much different. All the same woods are used, and the finish on both brands are amazing.
I've noticed with my Epi that it never stays in tune, and that is a big issue for guitarist. I never had a good ear until I bought a good guitar that stayed in tune long enough for me to recognize when it was out.
sircraigery 2 years ago
For a start Gibson and Epiphone parts are completleey different sizes, the epiphone parts are made using metric measurements, the american gibson parts imperial measurements, try taking a gibson bridge or visa versa on an epiphone, they arent interchangable.
The 'tops' on epiphones arent solid maple, their a very thin maple veneer, gibson are solid maple.
Epiphone uses poly lacquer a very hard brittle finish, Gibson uses nitro. they only look the same.
