I'm sorry for Mr. Kuleshov and the publisher of this magnificent video. I have to admit that I just accidentally clicked "thumb down" when I intended to click for the up button. This video deserves 100% thumb up.
interesting how he rewrote end to make octaves and chords in r/h, carrying the famous theme all in the l/h rather than alternate thumbs. maybe more secure?
@kasyapa I noticed the same. Horowitz's transcription alternated L 4-5 and R 1-2 for the middle voice. Still, any piece written with 3 voices for a two handed instrument takes phenomenal skill. Tthe dynamics with the pronunciation in this variation is the best transcription for piano I've yet witnessed. Who is the performer?
@kasyapa After listening to it a couple times, hes added accents to the r/h making the high voice more pronounced than Horowitz at the cost of the theme/bass. Still I like it better than Horowitz's transcription. Perhaps easier on the hands but also easier on the ears IMO.
@tantrikwizard Horowitz's 28 March, 1945 performance is posted here by rmannion, and he also plays the piccolo an octave higher in the last repeat of the trio. The score includes a third staff for the theme of the trio.
But watch this guy play those thunderous octaves during the "dogfight"!
I bet all the brass players in the orchestra were thinking, "NO!!!! I thought I got away from this piece once I graduated from the high school band and joined orchestra instead! And now PIANISTS play it??"
I annoy all the brass people at my university by playing the first few bars, hehe. :D
@sibelio You appear to be ignorant of the correctness of judiciously utilized pesante, particularly in a march. There is plenty of elegance in the second strain.
His playing is so clean and powerful. I wish I had that kind of hand strength. LOL at having to adjust his glasses. This piece will shake the wedding ring right off my left hand.
@pianoenthusiast11 - Rach III....I was there.... and lucky to get a seat as there was standing room only in this great concert hall... Concert was a huge success .as Kuleshov is extremely popular in St. Petersburg....
