when roger was a teenager he chose to go to a special tennis training facility in switzerland, which is on the french speaking side of switzerland, he spent 5 days a week there, studying and training, and he lived with a family as well, so I suppose he learn´t french at that time! I read it in his his book!
Well it's not rare in Europe to speak up to 5 languages. In switzerland, on the german side, it's not rare either that people speak french english and german fluently. I know a guy who went to school with ROger in switzerland on the german side, and he too speaks french pretty well and English fluently. It's more rare of french people to speak many languages well, probably because france is big, proud and full of people who have no interests in foreign cultures and countries.

THe more south you go in europe the less they know english as a general rule. Everyone in the Netherlands speak english fluently, but starting from france the level starts to drop dramatically. That I agree.. And Nadal is from a latin culture way south and away from the english speaking north.
