  • Are you still using the fire piston?

Great video, thank you for posting!

  • @Diopterman Thanks...No not often...I use more the flint and steel.

  • I guess that I should have read ALL of the comments. :~) Someone else told you that it was a Wilderness Solutions 2nd. Gen. I didn't know that you put this one out. Great job. Blessings. John

  • Nice Fire Piston, thanks for sharing. Regards from Germany Mario

  • @Survivalfather Thank you Mario...

  • Ive made several fire pistons that turned out very junky looking. That one is a work of art! Beautiful!

  • Wonderful Video Mike. Being not very familiar with fire pistons, they felt a bit like novelty items to me. Having an option that requires less tender though seems to make them a much more viable option. Thanks a bunch. : )

  • @saradreaming You are very welcome Sara :)

  • cool little gadget. I've got one made by a good friend & the parts to make one from water pipe.

  • Mike how would you compare the piston to your flint and steel?

  • @Ericidryfly To be honest with you...I would not change the flint and steel for the firepiston. In my opinion it would be more reliable (not as many mechanical parts ) and it is more fun to use :)

  • Beautiful piece of kit!

    All the best to youguys:o)

    Rob

  • Sweet lookin' fire piston Mike :o)

  • That is a very nice fire piston. Just curious what is your preferred method to start a fire in the wet weather, especially when most things are soaked?

I dig the t-shirt, Jesus gave His back for you and I!

  • @phr1sk37 Amen to that Brother...my preferred method when it is soaked ? A lighter :)

  • Nice one Mike. But lets say you broke that small ring and you lots the other spare one, have you give a thought about any natural material you can find in the woods as a replacement that will actually work?

  • @nedeljkomostar Good ?....it would be very difficult because it needs to be absolutely air tight and very solid. To tell you the truth I do not know if it is possible. One thing I would try is make an o-ring out of half cooked resin and use some juices rom the birch leaf as a lubricant because the juices are a little soapy. I would need to test it.

  • google this and see if this is it?

    PISTON-FIRE-CB-S Piston Fire Starter, turned Cocobolo wood . . . $59.99

  • @ArtisanTony Thanks Tony...I will check it out.

  • Very cool Mike! I have a few pistons and can't keep them clean enough to work :)

  • Like the piston Mike .....Had mine for years don't use it a whole lot....I like chaga and char cloth I find it really hard with punky wood...Never seen one with a piston valve before that's a good idea.Mine is made of cobolo wood and cotton seal for a gasket .do you know what type of wood yours is?

    Great Vid !

  • @brutallindigo thanks...no I do not know what type of wod it is but my guess would probably be the same as yours..cocobolo wood

  • Cor! Wouldn't mind one o'them!

  • Wilderness Solutions 2nd Gen is correct. I have a few of Jeff's pistons, and they are wonderful. The value is an awesome innovation that allows the pressure to be released. Enjoy!
