  • I love how these guys are opened to citing Punk as a big influence on them, this song is a perfect example of that. Sick Band!

  • Awesome!

  • what we're hearing on this video recording isn't what the audience heard... you can see that the drums are mic'd up, and obvously the vocalist is in the mix, but you probably may have guessed that the bass and the guitar are cranking like mad, so, as the old saying goes, You just had to be there!

  • Maybe Led Zeppelin did not disband but just metamorphosed into Diamond Head:)

  • New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. ♥

  • i wish the bbc would play this now, instead of lady gaga shit.

  • I think that the song of metallica "Ride the lightning" is inspire in this song

  • METALLICA!!!!!

  • Oooh...these guys needed a second guitarist. Kirk where were you?

  • Too bad it's an amputated version...

  • Great Video, Thanks

  • Metallica covered this one to.

  • @locoawise

metallica's best songs were the ones they stole from Diamond Head

  • i love that witch singing

  • punk meets newwave brit metal....fuckin' awsome........

  • @dws901 what??

  • Headbanging - listening to Heavy Metal music and banging your head - is just catching on as a form of expression If you look at the audience/crowd some are head-banging and some don't - like they don't know how. This is the the start of the NWOBHM and all its forms we know today like head banging.

  • That's cliff's bass :D

  • THE CROWD HAHAHAHA!

  • The fuck! did all the good shit stayed back in the 70s?!

  • Bang Your Heads ........Cuz your HELPLESS!!!!!!

  • really one of the best band

  • *----------* exelente

  • sean harris is a legend

  • epic

  • Teeny Tiny Bass Drum

  • these lyrics are really terrible but its still an epic song

  • \m/

Helpless and Am I Evil are both much better from Diamond Head than 'tallica.

  • gotta love the super sloppiness

  • @Megatallicaupyourass The era of the really really really low gain overdrive amps.

  • BRIIIANNN

  • Awesome Band i just discovered it 16 July 2011

    the Metal Scene

  • nwobhm was the first extremely heavy scene

  • is that Carrot Top? xD

  • FUCK YEAH

  • love the voice of Harris

  • This is kinda like Starz, just not as good.

  • I hate that the only people who know this song is because of metallica. At least they got some recognition though. I like the kill em all "am i evil" than the garage inc version.

  • @coleeo23 they are same version.

  • @vanhalenkid No they rerecorded it.

  • @coleeo23 The version of "Am I Evil?" that appears on Garage Inc. is the same version that was on some copies Kill Em' All. Metallica's version of Helpless is the same one that was on he Garage Days tape.

  • @vanhalenkid They definatly rerecorded it with jason newstead

  • @coleeo23 It's possible that there is a version out there with Newsted, but both the Garage versions are the same, with Cliff.

  • well, more than 30 years ago...

  • the bass player has a rickenbacher, and the guitar player has a white flying V....Hmmm, i remember another band that had that same combination

  • @rwoods2k hahahahahaha

  • @rwoods2k k

  • @ETpr0ducti0ns watch?v=mFW42a4v4GE

  • @rwoods2k Don't forget the red pants.

  • metallica cover is better

  • @ElricMeln1 You misspelled worse.

  • great unrated band

  • the first metallica

  • that's a nice rickenbacker.

    I wish i could get one =(

but i'm saving up for it!

at the moment i have a 4 string ibanez which actually pretty good but a rickenbacker is pure awesomeness

  • @PaoloBaixista My brother has one, keep saving, they're awesome.

  • Crazy song

  • NWOBHM

  • Diamond Head & Metallica lml

  • @Patriotgamez no one cares.

  • lol at the chick headbanging like a loonie. or the dood, hard to tell.

  • @Makrim83 that chick rocks! you meen the girl to the left of the guy in the green at 0:44? She's totally in her groove! How in the heck did DIamond Head not go on to world fame?

You can see the influence of DH live on in Dragon Force today with the epic lyrics and awsome tunes

  • hÏhi_Î_fÈËl_so_lÒNêlý_tØdAÿ

  • going to see these guys at sonisphere france this year :D

  • @iAmRobertTrujilloFan they play in sonisphere?great!there are several great festivals going on in europe..in greece it's a different story though :S

  • Imagine Lars being dressed like that...

  • @Pandi8848 watch early metallica pictures and lars is dressed like that

  • @wrabit79 so is James and i think dave dressed like that once or twice.

  • You can really tell that metallica was inspired by these guys. This sounds like it could have been a song on kill em all or ride the lightening.

  • @cookmj10 nope was on garage days lmao

  • I like this, not nearly as much as Metallica's, but it's good. It has more of a rock feel than traditional metal, but it's good. Also, I love 2 things about this:

    1. That those guys in the audience are headbanging the whole time, with the PEACE SIGN lol.

2.That I can probably play that guitar, but I could NOT wear those clothes without shooting myself for looking that gay lol.

No disrespect to anyone. These guys are underrated pioneers of Rock.

  • d-beat drumming before Discharge!

  • i heard of them through metallica. but now i like them better than metallica. same thing with budgie and motorhead haha

  • its nothing to do with style... its all about rock... fuck MTV

  • NWOBHM.... START..

  • time machine type thing.... motorhead, diamond head, dianno era maiden triple header live show... i would pay money for that

  • 1980!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG fuck you all talkin about his voice, there's nothing wrong with it in fact it's FUCKIN POWERFUL !!!

  • @DaSpoilerGuy A little reverb on his PA (microphone) would have made him sound better. No problem with his voice. Its equipment. But thats just my opinion.

  • @DaSpoilerGuy

His voice is lame... there is nothing powerful about him or his voice.

  • @tmxd81

i agree , awful voice... sounds like hes singing while runnin up a hill !!!

  • why are they both playing through guitar amps?

  • @durrr123 back in the day, there was not much difference between a bass or guitar amp. The hi watt amps that roger waters used for bass could be used for PA, bass or guitar. the guy from tool uses a marshall "bass" amp. a lot of guitar amps are based on "the bassman" bass amp. and to this day, the bass player for stone temple pilots uses a bassman and a marshall guitar amp in the studio.

  • @btmybrother ahh- thanks, i did not know that

  • @btmybrother I used to use a 400watt Pevey Key Board Amp and used distortion from a small 100watt Pevey amp. I ran a wire from the head phone jack of the small amp for the distortion and Amplified it through the 400Watt KB Amp! It had such a Rich Sound and loud as all hell.

You can also use a distortion pedal. You can use a bass amp with a Guitar It doesn't really matter. Heck I plugged in a bass guitar into my little 100watt Pevey amp and I was surprised how much Bass was coming out of it.

  • @durrr123 lemmy to this day uses a guitar amp there's nothing wrong with it

  • @davemurrayrocks no, lemmy has always used marshall bass amps.

OLD bass amps, so that why they sound the same.

  • this sounds like Billy Squier on vocals trying for a Heavy Metal sound..Horrendous! I'll stick with American Metal anyday, over this psychedelic metal.

  • tHIS ISN'T HEAVY..sOUNDS LIKE tHE kNACK..THE VOcalist is rat-garbage...man, this sucks!

  • Haha oh my Jesus that bassist looks like Cliff Burton! Or rather, Cliff Burton, a lot of the time, looked like the bassist!

  • Did Colin Kimberly come out as gay on the radio many years ago?

  • @Cohortrohoc

    Who cares?

As long as they're not peedos, what folks fancy is how they're wired.

  • Talent pure and simple. Those who know music, know how important this band are.

  • this version is really raw

  • a multidão deveria estar mais animada por essa banda

como podem ver uma parte bate a cabeça, a outra fica dançando fingindo interesse e outros ficam parados de braços cruzados. triste

  • Cool, but the song is sounding weak to me. I prefer Metallica's version. Diamond Head was their biggest influence.

  • Classic tune and way much better than Metallica's by far

  • Raw sick sound, who can argue with a metal band that features a Gibson V and Rickenbacker bass?

  • Amazing song, I love Diamond Head so much better than the Metallica version. Sounds like the studio version.

  • Having listenend the Metallica version of this song, this original version sounds boring for me.

  • @marcosmetal2008

If you listen the original a few times, you will start thinking that it is better. Remember that this 1 is a live version.

  • I always thought Diamond Head had 2 guitar players..

  • @nickwarhead

Sean Harris played Rhythm Guitar for Am I Evil

  • @MegaSeth91 and "in the heat of the night"

  • is the crowd dead?

  • rock & roll yeahhh

  • @aquilescastro rock and roll?

  • what a lame crowd

  • very nice dudes,,,,,,,

    heavy metal 80 years...

    the beggining of confusion,,,

    thiago cherubim-brasil...

  • METAL!

  • lol this is weird... never heard the original b4.. so for me metallice is the original, but hey i can see where metallica got ALOT of their influenze from :)

the crowd are even headbanging :)

  • @vild3r You may like the M version, as do I, but these guys wrote it, lived it and put it out there! I am with u when u say "i can see where metallica got ALOT of their influence from", but there is a certain naivety about these guys, I can imagine the excitement for writing this and others, raw as fuck!!!

  • Sean Harris voice is HOT!

  • yeah they definitely influenced metallica immensely, this is a fact....

  • @BagpipeHustler It is true. It is clear that this band influenced a lot the "Kill 'em all" album. And the drums are quiet "thrash metal", before Slayer and Metallica. I don't know too much about Diamond Head, but there is not any doubt that they influenced a lot the Metallica sound.

  • Is that cliff burton on bass? lol

  • @theblitz8 looks like it. even same bass as cliff. Hmmm. weird

  • i like the metallica version better. Its faster and heavier.

  • @jackwontknow1 you know man, sometimes because something is faster and heavier doesn't mean it's better...

  • @elvengadorcerocho true, but this version is soooo slow lol

  • james mad this very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i have to thank metallica for letting me listen to this band!

  • @RaMbOwgINI You have to thank Metallica for becoming the band this band should have been.

  • dude you just noticed me for that keep it up

  • @RaMbOwgINI

Amen dude. The coolest thing though is that this performance is a year before the 'Tallica even formed let alone recorded anything. It's awesome to see where Metallica got their influences from & if they'd never have covered some Diamond Head tracks then a lot less people would be giving Diamond Head the respect they deserve today. God I fucken love metal \m/

  • too heavy for me. the drummer is too talented. the singer's voice is too in key.

  • wtf?

  • @Docteur666 irony

  • crunchy

  • I like Metallica's version better. Mainly for the vocals.

  • Both of you shut the fuck up and listen to some Diamond Head.

  • not really, the singer was not up to par with the band

  • Will anyone tell me which album this simpler version of Helpless is included?

I prefer this arrangement to the longer one,

  • @yumeishinzen Garage Days

  • i love the guy in thefront's headbanging

  • the singer( can't remember name :( ) looks kind of gay with those shirts he used to wear all the time :/ DIAMOND HEAD RULES!!!!

  • Quit talking about that sell out of a band "Metallica". Half their songs are covers that people think they wrote.

  • @TheCRRiddle Uhm, no. Metallica never sold out. They adapted,

  • @crisshort1996 Adapted to mainstream garbage. They only became famous because Dave Mustaine guitar playing then they kicked him out and stole his rifts.

  • @TheCRRiddle they were nobody when they kicked dave out, and for a while after. Dave was in the band for only 10 months. Oh, and they were metallica's riffs, not "daves"..

As far as mainstream? They play what the want and mainstream adapted to them, but you're probably too much of an idiot to understand that.

  • @empreme Quit trying to stick up for a shitty cover band. Metallica is overrated; let's put it that way. I bet you also listen to AC/DC and think all their songs sound different and are all original.

  • @TheCRRiddle I hate acdc. You never responded to any of my points. You obviously can't so you have to take shots at me personally. That's called "Ad hominem" and it means "I suck at arguing and I've already lost"

  • @empreme You never stated any points besides you kissing Metallicas' ass about a band that doesn't care about their fans and just cares about their money.

  • @TheCRRiddle Yeah you suck at arguing.

    Stop talking to me, moron...

  • @empreme Megadeth is better than Metallica go cut yourself.

  • @TheCRRiddle Neither is better, go castrate yourself with a red-hot steel blade.

  • @TheCRRiddle I will fucking murder you with a rubber spatula.

  • @TheCRRiddle haha you replied to yourself, you idiot!!!

  • @TheCRRiddle See what I mean. You suck at arguing. I had points in my original statement which refuted what you said. You still haven't given me anything against those original points. Believe me, you could have said some stuff, but you haven't. You're an idiot. Why not give me some reasons why megadeth is better? Since you're unable to do anything but attack me personally, I'll assume you can't, or you have down syndrome. Probably both.

  • @empreme I already stated my points, Metallica is a sell out cover band. I'm not going to write a fucking paragraph on who much better I am like you did.

  • @TheCRRiddle Lol you just don't get it. You need to stop replying. I told you to do that a while back, don't you remember?

  • @empreme What's up nigger?

  • @TheCRRiddle White anglo saxon protestant, actually. Your replies just keep getting worse and worse. Are you even trying?

  • @TheCRRiddle And I'm an NRA member.

  • @empreme Not really trying but if you're a Nigger that sucks.. For you.

  • @TheCRRiddle agreed.

  • @TheCRRiddle Let's take a ride down to Crenshaw, lets see you scream nigger there skeeter blalalaalal

  • @RNRDOLL Sup Nigger?

  • @empreme whats that stand for...Not Really Astute? lol who let Charlton Heston in here?!

  • @TheCRRiddle I know i'm not part of this convo but I have to say that whilst I do agree that metallica are over rated, they are good. and so are AC/DC. However this fucking rocks! I love classic rock and metal! nothing beats it! :D

  • @anderson9132 is AC/DC also overrated like Metallica?

  • @tetsuyanamamura Yes, if you like AC/DC you like them. I can tolerate them in a doses but I won't go out of my way to listen to them when there are various other bands I can listen to and other bands I would prefer to listen to over AC/DC from the 1970's such as Budgie, Motörhead, Rainbow, Scorpions, Thin Lizzy, UFO, Uriah Heep.

  • @TheCRRiddle i'm going with crriddle on this one. i want the metallica of the 80's

back. not the angst ridden assholes we have today.

do you know they have a psychiatrist/therapist now? did the mellatica of 1984

need a therapist? no!!! no wonder newsted left them. he looked round and thought....fuck this i'm so gone.

  • @crisshort1996 yeaaaaaa right

  • @crisshort1996 adapted to how they could sell more records and lose musical integrity...yes I totally agree

  • Man, fuck Metallica right now, this is Diamond Head's time.

  • It's an awesome song and I like Diamond head's one as much as Metallica's.

  • So many awesome bassists used that type of bass back in the 80's....Lemmy,Cliff burton....Thats a real mofo bass guitar.....

  • This song resembles Judas Priest's song "Rapid Fire" a bit, specially on the intro.

  • This was on tv back then,

  • UK metal led the way for all others to follow.

  • They should make another movie like Anvil!... but about Diamond Head, so maye they'd get respect.
